# Uddhava > [!summary] > *Uddhava is the most confidential associate of Lord Krsna in Dvaraka. An eternal devotee and expansion of one of the eight Vasus, he received the Lord's personal teachings before His disappearance (the Uddhava-gita). Despite being a pure devotee in intimate friendship with Krishna, Uddhava desired to taste the transcendental love of the gopis of Vrndavana, recognizing their love as the supreme perfection. After Krishna's departure, he was entrusted to remain in this world to disseminate knowledge of the Personality of Godhead. His narration to Vidura (recorded in Srimad-Bhagavatam, Canto 3) provides precious accounts of Krishna's final days and teachings.* ![[images/all-catalogs/0140_KB1-52--pg299.jpg]] ## Lord's Most Intimate Devotee The Lord addressed Uddhava as "Vasu," confirming his eternal identity as an expansion of one of the eight Vasus. Through the Supersoul, Krishna knew Uddhava's ancient desire for His personal association — a desire difficult for others to achieve — and promised to fulfill it. ![[sb/3/4/11]] ## Pure Devotion Without Admixture While both Uddhava and Maitreya Muni were present, the Lord's attention was particularly on Uddhava because of his spotless devotion. Unlike devotion mixed with philosophical speculation or fruitive activities, Uddhava's love for Krishna was unmixed and spontaneous. ![[sb/3/4/10]] ## Transcending the Material Modes The Lord declared Uddhava to be not inferior to Himself in any way, for he remained completely unaffected by the modes of material nature. For this reason, Krishna commanded him to remain in this world as His representative to teach knowledge of the Personality of Godhead. ![[sb/3/4/31]] ## Desiring the Gopis' Love Though Uddhava was an intimate associate of the Lord in Dvaraka, he aspired to taste the pure love of the gopis of Vrndavana. The dear devotees of the Lord, headed by Uddhava himself, recognize that the gopis' love represents the supreme perfection of devotional service. ![[cc/adi/4/163]] Even the dust of the gopis' lotus feet was the object of Uddhava's prayers. This shows that pure devotees always consider the love of the gopis to be superior to their own attainment. ![[cc/adi/6/65-66#translation]] ## After Krishna's Disappearance When Vidura inquired about the welfare of the Yadu dynasty, Uddhava could only lament that the sun of the world had set and their house had been swallowed by the great snake of time.
