# The five types of liberation > [!summary] > *The Vedic scriptures describe five types of liberation (mukti) available to the living entity. These range from merging into the Lord's existence to attaining a personal relationship with Him in the spiritual world. Pure devotees generally reject impersonal liberation but accept the forms of liberation that allow eternal personal service to the Lord. The highest liberation is to attain a relationship like those of the residents of Vṛndāvana.* ## The Five Types of Liberation Described !sb/3/29/13 !cc/madhya/24/134#translation ## Sayujya (Merging) Is Rejected by Devotees !sb/3/29/14 !sb/4/9/29 ## Devotees Prefer Service over Liberation !sb/3/25/34 !sb/4/9/10 ## Liberation Through Devotional Service !sb/3/25/32 !sb/5/5/6 ## Living in the Lord's Abode !sb/3/15/14 !sb/4/12/26 ## The Pure Devotee's Attitude Toward Liberation !cc/madhya/6/267#translation !cc/adi/5/35 ## Related Articles - The spiritual world — The destination - The nature of the soul — Who is liberated - The nature of liberation — Overview of mukti - The supremacy of bhakti — Surpasses all liberation - The glories of Vṛndāvana — The highest abode ## From the Index - Liberation (mukti) — Five types and their characteristics - Liberation — General concept - Vaikuṇṭha — The spiritual world - Sayujya — Merging liberation
