# Sanātana Gosvāmī > [!summary] > *Śrīla Sanātana Gosvāmī is the elder brother of Rūpa Gosvāmī and one of the foremost of the Six Gosvāmīs of Vṛndāvana. Lord Caitanya declared that Sanātana's devotional service was so powerful it could purify the entire universe. Though he served as a minister under the Muslim Nawab, he escaped imprisonment to meet Lord Caitanya at Benares, where the Lord instructed him for two months on the science of devotional service.
