# The Supreme Personality of Godhead
*On Bhagavān, the Supreme Being, His opulences and how to know Him*
---
### No Equal and No Greater
> Bhagavān means the Supreme Being. God means who has no equal and who has no greater person than Him. This is the Vedic version: *na tasya samaḥ adhikaś ca dṛśyate*—"Nobody is found equal to Him or greater than Him."
— Bhagavad-gītā 7.1, Mexico City, 1975
---
### Six Opulences Define God
> *Bhaga* means opulence. So there are six kinds of opulences. One opulence is to become very rich, another opulence is to become very powerful, another opulence is to become very strong, another opulence is to become very famous, another opulence is to become very wise, and another opulence is to become very much renounced. So these six kinds of opulences, when present in the superlative degree, that is Bhagavān.

---
### The Ultimate Superior
> God means "the Supreme Being." What is that Supreme Being? We are all living beings, but amongst ourselves there is comparative, superlative positions. I am here; you are here; he is there. So you may be better than me, he may be better than you, and somebody else may be better than him. In this way you go on searching after one better than the other. When you ultimately come to a point that nobody is better than him, that is Bhagavān.

### God Cannot Be Poor
> A poor man, begging from door to door, he cannot become God, as it is misconceived, *daridra-nārāyaṇa.* Why Nārāyaṇa can be *daridra?* What is this nonsense? He is the richest. He is the richest. And why He can..., He will be *daridra?*
— Bhagavad-gītā 7.2, London, 1975
---
### Knowledge from God Himself
> If we speculate about God, that will never be sufficient. Not even we can touch the precincts of the knowledge. If we want knowledge without any doubt, *asaṁśayam, samagram,* and complete, then we must hear from God Himself. Who can know God better than God Himself?
— Bhagavad-gītā 7.2, London, 1975
---
### The Supreme Controller
> The supreme controller, who controls everyone, all big controllers, that is Kṛṣṇa. *Īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ anādir ādir govindaḥ sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam.* Means that *īśvara,* controller, the supreme controller, is Kṛṣṇa.
— Bhagavad-gītā 7.1, Mexico City, 1975
---
### The Great and Small
> God, Kṛṣṇa, is the supreme father. So, so far the activities are concerned, the same. But the difference is that God is great; we are small. That is the difference. God can create the so many planets. Just like the sun globe, it is... There are other globes also. They are bigger than sun. Anyway, the sun is very big. So God has created this big globe, means fourteen hundred thousand times bigger than this earth—or even this earth—floating in the air.
— Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.1, Melbourne, 1975
---
### True Friend and Proprietor
> God is the proprietor of all the planets, all the universes. *Suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām:* "I am the friend of all living entities." But these people, they are claiming that... The leader is claiming, "I am the friend," and he is claiming, "I am the proprietor." They are, therefore, criminal.
— Garden Conversation, Los Angeles, 1975
---
### The Constant Companion
> God is always accompanying the individual soul to turn him back to home, back to Godhead. He is so nice friend. Kṛṣṇa is the proprietor of all the universes. Kṛṣṇa is the friend of all living entities. So if you want peace, then you should understand that "Here is my friend, the supreme friend."

---
### Part of the Whole
> Small particle of gold is also gold and has got some value. But not as good as the gold mine. This is the difference between God and ourself. We should understand. So if we give up this service to the senses and we engage ourself in the service of the great... Everyone wants to serve the great.
