# Misfortune of This Age *On why people do not take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness* --- ### So Misfortunate > "But I am so misfortunate that I have no attraction even for this." You say people, "You chant 'Kṛṣṇa' you'll get everything," they will not believe it. — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### Attracted to Bluff > If you say, "You press your nose. You pay me fifty dollars. I'll give you some nice mantra and this, that. You make your head like this, leg like this," "Oh," he'll say, "here is something." Something. "And this Swāmījī says, 'Simply chant Kṛṣṇa.' Oh, what this is?" Therefore Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, etādṛśī tava kṛpā bhagavan mamāpi durdaivam: "But I am so unfortunate that You have become so easily available in this age, but I am so unfortunate, I cannot accept it." — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### Cannot Accept > So the Kṛṣṇa consciousness so easily being distributed, but they are so unfortunate, they cannot accept. Just see. And you give them bluff, you cheat them—they will, "Ah, yes, welcome. Yes." They'll welcome it. And cheaters are always ready: "Oh, there are so many customers are being cheated. Let me take advantage of it." — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### Cheaters and Cheated > So my Guru Mahārāja used to say, "This world is the society of cheaters and cheated." The members are somebody are cheating, and somebody are cheated. The association of cheaters and cheated. So we want to save them from this society of cheaters and cheated. — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### Demonic Age > It is not that you will be successful everywhere. Because it is demonic age. But you, more you become yourself sincere, you'll be successful everywhere, because it is demoniac age. But you, more you become yourself sincere, you'll be successful. Because Kṛṣṇa will see that you are successful. — Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.6, Vṛndāvana, 1972 --- ### Frustration Coming > After too much material enjoyment, the next stage is frustration. That stage is coming to your country. Therefore the boys are becoming hippies. After too much material enjoyment, the next stage is—that is natural—frustration. — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### Before Frustration > So before reaching to that point of frustration, if you take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then you reach the real standard of happiness, because everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. — Room Conversation, Columbus, 1969 --- ### The Only Scarcity > My Guru Mahārāja used to say that "There is no scarcity in the world. The only scarcity is that people are not Kṛṣṇa conscious. That's all. Otherwise there is no scarcity." He has declared like that. — Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.27, Indore, 1970 --- ### Manufacturing Religion > You cannot manufacture religion. But nowadays it has become fashion. Everyone is manufacturing his own religion. Therefore there is dharma-viparya. — Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.34–39, Surat, 1970 --- ### Living Animal Life > If you chant "water, water, water, water," your thirst will not be quenched. But if you cry "Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa," you may find your position in this world: where you came from, why are you here, what are you doing, where are you going. These questions man must answer, or he's not making use of his ability as man; he's simply living an animal life, eating, sleeping, mating, defending. — Janmāṣṭamī Lecture, Montreal, 1968 --- *10 quotes from Śrīla Prabhupāda on the misfortune of this age* Back to Quotes
