# Kṛṣṇa's Pastimes *On the Lord's transcendental activities and why He descends* --- ### Two Reasons for Descent > God advents for two purposes. What are the two purposes? *Paritrāṇāya sādhūnām:* just to give relief and deliver the devotees. Their mode of life, their atmosphere, they are always dead. Just like we see so many demons. So what is there to kill them? They are already killed. All Vedic scriptures simply explain this topic and nothing else. This is *astra.* In this age, Kali-yuga, to kill the demons means to stop their demonic activities by the *astra, kīrtana, hari-saṅkīrtana,* which is spread by His associates.
