# Madhvācārya
> [!summary]
> *Madhvācārya (1238-1317) was the founder of the Brahma-Madhva-Gauḍīya sampradāya and a powerful preacher of devotional theism. He defeated the Māyāvādīs with his philosophy of śuddha-dvaita (pure dualism), establishing that the Supreme Lord and the living entities are eternally distinct. Lord Caitanya's movement comes in his disciplic succession, making Madhvācārya the original ācārya of our sampradāya.*
