# King Parīkṣit
> [!summary]
> *Mahārāja Parīkṣit is the ideal hearer of Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. As the grandson of Arjuna and a great devotee from birth, he was saved by Lord Kṛṣṇa in the womb from the deadly brahmāstra weapon of Aśvatthāmā. When cursed to die in seven days by a brāhmaṇa's son, Parīkṣit renounced his kingdom and sat on the bank of the Ganges to hear from Śukadeva Gosvāmī. His perfect questions and unwavering attention during the last week of his life resulted in the recitation of the entire Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. He attained liberation by hearing.*
