# Dhruva Mahārāja > [!summary] > *Dhruva Mahārāja is one of the most celebrated devotees in Vedic history. At just five years old, he left home determined to see God, driven by the insult of his stepmother who denied him his father's lap. Though initially motivated by material ambition, through the mercy of Nārada Muni and his own intense austerities, Dhruva achieved the direct vision of Lord Viṣṇu. Upon seeing the Lord, all his material desires vanished, and he attained pure devotion. He later ruled as an ideal king and ultimately returned to the spiritual world on a special airplane.* !images/all-catalogs/0083_SB-2-2-2.jpg ## Extraordinary Determination !sb/4/8/26 !sb/4/8/69 ## Performs Severe Austerities !sb/4/8/72 !sb/4/8/76#translation ## Instructed by Nārada Muni !sb/4/8/40 !sb/4/8/54 ## His Meditation Captures the Lord !sb/4/8/78 !sb/4/8/82 ## Sees the Lord Face to Face !sb/4/9/2 !sb/4/9/5 ## Prayers of Pure Devotion !sb/4/9/6 !sb/4/9/10 ## Laments His Material Desires !sb/4/9/27 !sb/4/9/29 ## Attains the Spiritual World !sb/4/12/34 !sb/4/12/35 ## From the Scriptures **Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Canto 4** — The story of Dhruva: - SB 4.8: Dhruva Mahārāja Leaves Home for the Forest — His departure and austerities - SB 4.9: Dhruva Mahārāja Returns Home — Vision of the Lord and prayers - SB 4.10: Dhruva Mahārāja's Fight with the Yakṣas — Battle with the Yakshas - SB 4.11: Svāyambhuva Manu Advises Dhruva Mahārāja — Receives guidance from Manu - SB 4.12: Dhruva Mahārāja Goes Back to Godhead — His ascent to Dhruvaloka ## Related Articles - Nārada Muni — His spiritual master - Prahlāda Mahārāja — Another great child devotee - The twelve Mahajanas — The great authorities - Janaka Mahārāja — Another self-realized king ## From the Index - Dhruva Mahārāja — The child devotee - Nārada Muni — Dhruva's spiritual master - Determination — In devotional service
