# Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu > [!summary] > *Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu is the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa Himself, appearing in the Age of Kali with the golden complexion and devotional mood of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. Known as the most munificent incarnation (mahā-vadānyāvatāra), He freely distributed love of God through the saṅkīrtana movement—the congregational chanting of the holy names. Appearing in Navadvīpa, Bengal in 1486, He accepted the renounced order of life and traveled throughout India, teaching devotional service by His own example.
