# The role of demigods
*The demigods (devas) are empowered servants of the Supreme Lord who manage the affairs of the material universe. Though they possess great power and control the forces of nature, they are themselves subordinate to Krishna. Worship of demigods yields temporary benefits, but only worship of Krishna grants liberation.*
