# The conditioned soul
*The conditioned soul (baddha-jīva) is a spiritual being entrapped in material existence due to forgetting Krishna. Bound by the three modes of nature and controlled by time, the conditioned soul transmigrates through 8,400,000 species seeking happiness but finding only suffering. Only by reviving their original Krishna consciousness can souls escape this bondage.*
