# Sacrifice and yajna *Sacrifice (yajna) is the offering of one's possessions, activities, and self for the pleasure of the Supreme Lord. In Vedic times, elaborate sacrifices were performed with fire and mantras, but in this age of Kali, the recommended sacrifice is sankirtana-yajna — the congregational chanting of the holy names. All sacrifices are ultimately meant for the satisfaction of Lord Vishnu, who is called Yajneshvara, the Lord of sacrifice. Work performed as sacrifice does not bind one to material reactions, while work done for selfish enjoyment leads to bondage.* ## Sacrifice Is Meant for Vishnu !bg/3/9 !sb/2/4/17 ## Sankirtana Is the Sacrifice for This Age !sb/7/14/17 !sb/8/5/23 ## Work as Sacrifice !bg/4/23 !bg/3/14 ## All Activities Should Be Sacrificed to Krishna !bg/9/27 !bg/4/24 ## Sacrifice Purifies the Performer !bg/4/30 !bg/18/5 ## The Lord Is Pleased by Sacrifice !sb/5/3/2 !sb/4/31/14 ## From the Index - Sacrifice — Yajna for Vishnu - Chanting — Sankirtana-yajna - Work — As sacrifice to Krishna
