# Householder life in Krishna consciousness
*The grihastha ashrama (householder life) is one of the four spiritual orders in Vedic society. Unlike ordinary family life centered on sense gratification, Krishna conscious householder life has the Lord at its center. Householders perform Deity worship, give charity to brahmanas and Vaishnavas, raise children in spiritual knowledge, and practice devotional service while fulfilling family duties. Eventually, householders should retire from family life to focus fully on spiritual advancement. The danger of householder life is becoming too attached to family and forgetting one's spiritual purpose.*
