Srimad-Bhagavatam 2.2.6

[01:46]…everyone’s own heart by His omnipotency.

[01:50]Because he is the almighty Personality of Godhead, eternal and unlimited,

[01:55]He is the ultimate goal of life and by worshipping Him one can end

[02:00]the cause of conditioned state of existence.

[02:02]

[02:26]So, last night we discussed that why one should bother about his maintenance

[02:40]and go to beg from a person who is very proud of his wealth.

[02:47]He can arrange his own living condition.

[02:55]The living condition is ahara nidra bhaya maituna.

[03:03]So far one is in the renounced order of life, he should first of all renounce this sex life

[03:17]and the state of fearfulness. That is renounced.

[03:26]Just like here there are many brahmacaries, sannyasis,

[03:32]they are supposed to be renounced order, especially the sannyasis.

[03:39]And vanaprastha, brahmacary. Renounced.

[03:48]The first renunciation is to renounce sense gratification.

[03:52]Therefore the person in renounced order is called swami.

[04:00]Swami means master, or goswami. So go means senses and swami means master.

[04:12]One who has become master of his senses, he is goswami or swami.

[04:19]Otherwise, if one is servant of his senses, how he can be swami or goswami?

[04:28]Every word has got meaning.

[04:32]So one has to renounce, this is material life,

[04:38]material life means everyone is engaged for sense gratification

[04:44]and that is taken as the advancement of civilization.

[04:49]The same sense gratification in a different way, same intoxication, same meat eating,

[04:58]same sex life, either go to club or naked club or this club.

[05:04]Therefore the practice is the same. Punar punar chavita cavavanam.

[05:10]Repetition of chewing the chewed. This is material life.

[05:16]So renounced order means to stop, not stop, at least control sense gratification,

[05:29]That is renounced order.

[05:32]And without being in renounced order you cannot go to the spiritual world.

[05:42]Just like your hand is there.

[05:47]You have got something which is not very good within your hand

[05:54]and if you want to take something better so you have to throw it away and take it,

[05:59]the better one. You cannot keep the both things, that is not possible.

[06:07]Therefore what is the difference between material life and spiritual life?

[06:15]Material life means simply full of problems, every step.

[06:23]Padam padam yad vipadam, simply dangerous.

[06:28]We are riding very nicely, comfortably, in a Cadillac car or waita[?] car, but

[06:38]we are riding on danger, that’s all. We are driving, any moment the car may be smashed,

[06:46]especially in your country. Any moment. So shall I sit down at home? No.

[06:55]At home also there may be so many dangers. We are in dangers.

[07:01]Simply we are trying to counteract it. That is called advancement of civilization.

[07:10]The animals they depend on nature’s protection but we are human beings,

[07:18]we are utilizing our higher consciousness, higher intelligence, the same thing.

[07:25]Russia is manufacturing, what is called, weapon, atom bomb.

[07:37]Nuclear, yes. And America is also trying too.

[07:43]And the cat and dog are trying to protect by their nails and teeth.

[07:49]So the real question is defense. So the defense is…

[07:56]It is not that because we have got better life

[08:00]than the cats and dogs we haven’t got to defend.

[08:05]We have defend, in a better way, not better way. After all we have to die.

[08:15]Anyway we think that it is a better way of defense.

[08:23]So material life means only busy in four things:

[08:28]how to eat, how to sleep and how to have nice sex and how to defend.

[08:35]Aharya nidra bhaya…

[08:42]But these things are not solving our problems. That we do not understand.

[08:48]The problems are there. Not that we Indians, we have come to America

[08:57]to see that, very rich nation, whether they have solved their problems.

[09:04]No. There are problems More problems than India.

[09:10]India may have only one problem that…

[09:15]Actually there is no, but we are advertised that Indians are starving.

[09:22]But I have not seen anyone starving. Anyway, so the problem is there.

[09:32]The material life means problems.

[09:38]And if you want to solve the problems then here is the prescription given. [09:45] [09:50]Tam means the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then the question may be:

[09:58]Now you have asked me to give up all endeavor for maintaining yourself,

[10:08]Sukadeva Goswami, you have prescribed that for your food you just wait under a tree

[10:17]and he will give you some fruits, you can eat.

[10:20]For water you go to the river and drink as much water as you like.

[10:27]Then, before this verse, he said for sleeping there is a very nice mattress, the grass.

[10:37]And you won’t require any pillow, no, you have got natural pillow, this,

[10:42]you have got your hand. You lie down.

[10:46]

[10:50]But if you want to advance in spiritual life simply you have to give up this sense gratification.

[10:58]And the essence of sense gratification is sex life.

[11:03]Otherwise there is full arrangement for your eating, sleeping compartment, apartment,

[11:10]everything is there. Temple also there, you have got. Where is the temple?

[11:17]I want to worship God. Where is church? Where is temple?

[11:20]If I live in the cave then I’ll have to find out another means to go to the temple.

[11:27]Therefore Sukadeva Goswami advises. No.

[11:32]

[11:38]Within the core of your heart, the Lord is there. You sit down anywhere.

[11:45]In the cave, in the jungle, or anywhere.

[11:48]If you like you can find out the Lord is there within your heart.

[11:53]

[11:59]Krishna says that the Supreme Lord, that means He. He is situated in everyone’s heart.

[12:07]If we are sincere, we means these living entities.

[12:14]We are also living within this body. Asmin dehe…

[12:24]We are not this body. I am, you are, we are also situated within this body.

[12:32]And Krishna is also situated within this body.

[12:36]

[12:39]It is not that He is situated in the heart of the Hindus and not of the others. No. Everyone.

[12:49]Sarva bhutanam. He is situated even in the hearts of cats and dogs and tigers and others, everyone.

[12:55]That is isvara.

[13:01]This verse we have repeatedly discussed. It is very, very important.

[13:07]That this body is just like a motor car, jantra.

[13:14]

[13:23]Through the agency of maya, material energy, this vehicle, machine has been given to me. Why?

[13:34]Because I wanted to wander throughout the universe.

[13:38]Just like they are going to the moon planet.

[13:42]So everyone has got… This is called philosophical ideas.

[13:49]Everyone, every human being, if he is at all human being, he considers,

[13:55]that is philosophical mind, he considers, “Oh, there are so many stars,

[13:59]what they are doing, how many men are there, whether there is motor car,

[14:04]whether there is hills, ocean?” These questions automatically come to an intelligent man.

[14:10]That is the beginning of philosophy, natural.

[14:15]So actually that is a fact. We are traveling all over the universe.

[14:23]Not only that we have come to this planet. We have traveled many other planets.

[14:29]Otherwise how Krishna says, brahmayan, wandering, sarva bhutani, all living entities,

[14:40]either in the higher planetary system or this lower planetary system?

[14:45]And how he is traveling? Jantra ruddhani. This jantra, this body. He has given body.

[14:55]Now if I want to go to Moon planet, and other higher planet, yes, you will get.

[15:01]But not this jantra, your so-called tiny sputnik. No.

[15:08]You have to take the jantra, the car, the vehicle from Krishna. He will give you. If you want.

[15:16]If you are serious that if you want to go to the Moon planet then you pray to Krishna

[16:16]that give me a jantra or a machine I can go to the Moon planet. The you can go.

[15:30]Otherwise you will unnecessarily spend money and try to go somewhere

[15:35]and bring some dust and you’ll say, “Now we are triumphant.” That’s all.

[15:41]But if you want to go there seriously, then you’ll have to prepare yourself in this life.

[15:49]Pray to the Supreme Lord who has created all these Moon and Sun and other

[15:55]and this planet and He will make you befitting, qualified, to go there.

[16:02]You cannot go to the Sun planet. It is very, very hot, high temperature.

[16:07]Similarly it is very, very cold in the Moon planet. So how you can go in this body?

[16:14]This body means this machine. Then you have to accept another machine.

[16:19]That is the process. That is the process. That is stated in the Bhagavad-gita.

[16:25]

[16:38]Everything is clearly stated there. That if you want to go to the heavenly planets,

[16:45]or higher planetary system. In front of you you can see them,

[16:53]that the Sun planet is there but you are so unqualified you can not go there.

[17:00]But the thing is there. It is not fictitious. The temperature is there.

[17:09]The sastra description is there.

[17:14]Sarvitu means the Sun. He is the eye of all the planets.

[17:19]Because without sunshine you cannot see. You are very much proud of your eyes.

[17:25]But soon as there is no Sun then you are blind.

[17:31]

[17:38]Of all the planets, unless there is sunrise you cannot see.

[17:42]And the Sun planet is there in front of you. Every morning we are getting the sunshine.

[17:51]Why don’t you go there? Go. You have got nice 747. That you cannot.

[18:00]Then you have to pray. Isvara, Krishna, is within your heart and if you fervently pray.

[18:11]He is very kind. Therefore He gives you different types of vehicle.

[18:15]

[18:22]Brahmayan means wandering in every planet, in every species of life.

[18:28]Sarva bhutani, all species of life. There are different types of birds,

[18:34]different types of beasts, different types of human beings, this is called vicitra, varieties.

[18:41]God’s creation is varieties.

[18:44]So if you want to go somewhere within this material world or beyond this material world.

[18:54]Beyond this material world.

[18:57]

[19:02]Krishna is giving you the information that there is another nature, that is spiritual nature.

[19:11]Just like we have got this experience, although we could not go anywhere,

[19:16]but we see by studying geography that there are many, many, hundreds, thousands

[19:25]and millions of planets, similarly there is another nature. There are also similarly

[19:32]the same, not only same, it is three times more than in this material world.

[19:39]This is only God’s one part of creation.

[19:44]

[19:57]When Arjuna wanted to know from Krishna, “How much Your potencies extended,

[20:07]how You are working. I want to know.” Because he is inquisitive. Brahma jijnasa

[20:17]He is trying to understand what is God. And God is personally replying.

[20:22]So He has stated in that chapter that, “I am this amongst this, I am this among this.”

[20:32]Then He summarizes that, “How much I shall say? Just try to understand Me, My potency.”

[20:41]This material world, there are innumerable universes

[20:49]and in each universe there are innumerable planets.

[20:53]So I want in everyone of them,

[21:01]All of them, and I maintain them. Just like Krishna is situated in everyone’s heart

[21:10]and similarly Krishna is situated in everything, even within the atom. That is Krishna.

[21:19]We want to imitate Krishna. But if we are asked that,

[21:26]“You enter into the atom?” That I cannot do. No.

[21:31]Krishna, God means He can become greater than the greatest.

[21:39]We can conceive of the greatest, the universe.

[21:41]So not only this universe but many millions of universes,

[21:49]they are being created from the holes of His bodily hairs.

[21:55]

[22:03]That is God. You have got many millions of holes on our body. God has got [also],

[22:10]Maha Visnu, and from those holes universes are coming out continually. Breathing.

[22:17]

[22:20]So you must have what is the conception of God.

[22:24]Greater than the greatest and smaller than the smallest. That is God.

[22:33]He can produce these big, big universes simply by breathing.

[22:40]And again we do not know how many atoms are there in each universe.

[22:47]He can enter into each atom.

[22:56]

[23:11]This is the conception of God.

[23:14]So here the proposal is that we are suffering in this material world.

[23:24]We are simply thinking that in future we shall be happy, if I do like this.

[23:33]But before that future comes, we become finished. This is our position.

[23:39]Not only once but many times. And still I ????. Just like the so-called scientists.

[23:45] “Millions of years gap then this will be happening and this will be happening…” No.

[23:52]These are all nonsense. Your age is fifty or sixty years,

[23:58]how you are conceiving of millions of years? Your fifty, sixty years of age

[24:06]will be millions of times finished before you realize the truth. But the so-called

[24:13]scientists they are thinking, “No, this fifty, sixty years is a large extent of span of life.”

[24:22]In that way you cannot understand. That is not possible. Chiram vichiram,

[24:27]if you speculate in that foolish way for chiram, eternally, still you cannot understand.

[24:38]

[24:53]Chiram means eternally if you speculate to understand God by your tiny brain

[25:00]and limited sense perception, it will be not.

[25:03]So take the prescription of the sastra if you want.

[25:09]The first is that you must give up material attachment.

[25:18]Material attachment, so long I will be attracted by material things,

[25:28]Krishna will give me a relative body.

[25:32]

[25:36]If we want this temporary material enjoyment then according to the body

[25:45]there is enjoyment. In the ants life there is also the same thing.

[25:50]Eating, sleeping, sex and defense. And in Lord Indra’s or King Indra, the heavenly King,

[26:00]he has got the same propensity. Eating, sleeping, mating and defense.

[26:06]So if you go to the Moon planet, or Sun planet or the topmost planet, wherever you go,

[26:13]the four things will follow: eating, sleeping, mating, defense,

[26:21]and birth, death, old age and disease. So so long we shall remain in this material world.

[26:32]I may be Lord Indra, Lord Brahma or President of America or this or that.

[26:40]You cannot avoid these four things. That is material existence. That is the problem.

[26:47]But if you want to solve the problem then this is the process given.

[26:54]

[26:58]Don’t aspire for material enjoyment. Enjoyment is there.

[27:05]Don’t think that if I stop my material enjoyment them my life of enjoyment is finished.

[27:14]No. It is not finished. Just like a diseased man. He is also eating, he is also sleeping,

[27:27]he is also having other duties.

[27:31]But his eating, sleeping and a healthy man’s eating, sleeping is not the same thing.

[27:38]Similarly our material enjoyment, the eating, sleeping, mating and defense,

[27:49]that is full of dangers. We cannot enjoy without any hindrance.

[27:58]There are so many hindrances. If we want that uninterrupted happiness… Happiness is there.

[28:09]Just like a diseased man, he is also eating and the healthy man is eating,

[28:17]but he is having bitter taste. A man with jaundice, if you give him sugar candy,

[28:27]he will taste as bitter. That is a fact.

[28:31]But the same person who is cured from the jaundice disease, he will taste it, very sweet.

[28:38]Similarly in the material condition of life there are so many inebriates.

[28:46]We cannot enjoy life fully.

[28:49]If you want full enjoyment of life then you must come to the spiritual platform.

[28:55]

[29:01]This material world has been described in the Bhagavad-gita. This is dukalayam.

[29:08]It is the place of miseries. That if you say: “No, I have made arrangement.

[29:15]I have got now nice bank balance. My wife is very nice. My children are also very nice.

[29:24]So I don’t mind. I shall remain in the material world.” Krishna says, asasvatam,

[29:30]“No Sir, you cannot live here, you will be kicked out.” Dukalayam asasvatam.

[29:39]If you agree to stay here in this miserable condition of life that is also not allowed.

[29:46]No permanent settlement. Tatha dehantra praptir.

[29:50]So these problems, where is the scientist discussing about these problems?

[29:56]But the problems are there. Who wants to give up whatever family he has got?

[30:03]Everyone has got family, but nobody wants to give up his family.

[30:07]But by force he is taken away. A man is crying, “I am now going, I am now dying.

[30:19]What will happen to my wife, my children?” He is forced. He must get out.

[30:26]So this is the problem. So where is the solution of the problem?

[30:32]There is no solution of the problem.

[30:35]If you want solution of the problem then Krishna says:

[30:41]

[30:51]If one comes to Me, man upetya, then he hasn’t got to come again

[30:59]in this material world full of miseries.

[31:05]So here Sukadeva Goswami is suggesting that you become devotee.

[31:10]Your all problems will be solved. [31:13]
