S.B. 1:2:20
[05:37]“evan prasanna-manaso bhagavad-bhakti-yogatah bhagavat-tattva vijinanam mukta-sangasya jayate”
[05:49]‘bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam.’ It is not sentiment. It is ‘vijnana.’
[05:59]‘Vijnana,’ means science. To become a devotee does not mean a sentimentalist.
[06:09]Sentimentalist has no value. One who has, there is sentiment, there is emotional sentiment in the…
[06:21]just like this child is dancing. It is not sentiment, he has no sentiment,
[06:29]but he’s dancing from the spiritual awakening.
[06:34]This dancing is not dog’s dancing. This is one who is feeling love of Godhead, he’s dancing.
[06:46]The more one feels love of Godhead he can dance, he can chant, he can cry.
[06:56]There are so many, eight kinds of ‘astasakti,’ transformations of the body.
[07:03]Tears in the eyes. So,
[07:08]“bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam, jnanam me param-guhyam yad vijnana-samanvitam.”
[07:19]Krishna said to Brahma, “jnanam me parama-guhyam”
[07:29]To know about Krishna, it is very, very, confidential.
[07:37]It is not ordinary thing. ‘vijnanam.’
[07:42]Therefore, many scientists, they’re also joining our movement.
[07:51]Many doctors of philosophy, chemistry, they’re understanding this is a science.
[07:59]And the more you make propaganda, the, I mean the higher circle of the society,
[08:11]learned scholars, professors, scientists, philosophers, they’ll join.
[08:17]And for them we have got so many books.
[08:23]We have proposal to publish eighty books, out of them we have published about fourteen books.
[08:34]So it is a science. Otherwise, why Srimad Bhagavatam has devoted 18,000 verses for understanding?
[08:48]In the beginning of Srimad Bhagavatam it is said, “dharmah projjhita-kaitavo ‘tra.”
[08:58]The cheating sentimentalism, the so-called religious system is ‘projjhita,’ is kicked out.
[09:16]There is no such place here in the Srimad Bhagavatam. ‘projjhita.’
[09:24]Just like you brush something, with broomstick or something and throw away the dust.
[09:31]Similarly, the dusty things so-called sentimental religionism is not here in the Srimad Bhagavatam.
[09:40]It is a science. ‘paramam-guhyam’ Very confidential.
[09:48]To understand Krishna, is not ordinary thing. Krishna says,
[09:56]“manusyanam sahasresu kascid yatati siddhaye yatatam api siddhanam kascin vetti mam tattvatah.”
[10:06]So, this truth is understandable through Krishna or through Krishna’s representative.
[10:24]And, in Bhagavad-Gita Krishna says,
[10:29]“mayy asakta-manah partha yogam yunjan-mad-asrayah.”
[10:33]‘Mad-asrayah.’ ‘Mad-asrayah’ means under my, under me,
[10:42]actually it means, ‘mad-asrayah’ means one who has taken the shelter of Krishna,
[10:51]or one who has surrendered to Krishna without any reservation.
[10:56]He is called ‘mad-asrayah,’ or one who has taken shelter of Krishna perfectly.
[11:04]So this yoga, this ‘bhakti-yoga,’ as it is stated here, “bhagavad-bhakti-yogatah”
[11:12]‘bhagavad-bhakti-yoga,’ can be learned when one takes fully shelter
[11:22]at the lotus feet of a ‘bhagavvat-bhakta.’
[11:28]That is called ‘bhagavata.’ You cannot become ‘bhagavata-bhakta’ independently,
[11:33]without caring for your spiritual master.
[11:38]That is nonsense, that is rascaldom. He will never be able.
[11:43]We are singing daily, “yasya prasadad bhagavat-prasado.”
[11:50]But you do not know the meaning, unfortunately.
[11:54]‘yasya prasadad.’ If the spiritual master is pleased, the Bhagavan is pleased.
[12:00]Not that independently. ‘yasya prasadad.’ In the ten kinds of offenses,
[12:13]the first offense is ‘guror avajna,’ disobeying the orders of guru.
[12:23]And especially guru’s business is to preach Krishna Consciousness
[12:31]and if a person blasphemes a person who is preaching all over the world Krishna Consciousness,
[12:40]that is the greatest offense. But we’re reading ten kinds of offenses, ‘guruvastakam,’
[12:50]and the guru’s…Do you know the meaning…What is that? “Sri-guru-carana-padma?”
[13:01]What is that song? Read it.
[13:10]‘savadhana mate’ - with great care.
[13:13]You sing this song. Do you know the meanings? No. Who can explain the meaning?
[13:18]Yes you explain…
[13:40]Read the other lines.
[13:44]‘jahare prasade bhai…’ ‘e bhava toriya jai’
[13:51]If one is, I mean to say favored by guru, then the path to cross over the nescience is clear.
[14:04]“jahare prasade bhai, e bhava toriya jai,”
[14:08]Then next line.
[14:11] “krishna-prapti hoy jaha ha ‘te.” By the favor of guru, one gets Krishna.
[14:18]This is the ‘yasya prasadad bhagavad.’ Everywhere. This is ‘bhagavata-bhakti-yogatah’
[14:25]So, one who has not attained this state, what is the ‘bhagavad-bhakti’?
[14:32]It is rascaldom. That is not ‘bhagavad-bhakti.’
[14:38]“evam prasanna-manaso bhagavata-bhakti-yogatah”
[14:43]‘bhagavad-bhakti.’ ‘yoga,’ it is a kind of yoga.
[14:48]Or the real yoga. Topmost yoga system is ‘bhagavad-bhakti,’
[14:55]and ‘bhagavad-bhakti-yoga’ begins ‘adua gurvasrayam.’
[15:01]First of all surrender to guru. “tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya.”
[15:09]The official initiation has no meaning unless one who has fully surrended to guru.
[15:18]There is no question of initiation. ‘dibya-jnan hrde prokasito’
[15:24]‘Dibya-jnan’ means transcendental knowledge.
[15:28]So to play tricks with guru, to become diplomat and intriguer,
[15:35]these rascaldoms will not help ‘bhagavad-bhakti-yoga.’ You can get some other things,
[15:43]some material profit, but spiritual life will be spoiled.
[15:46]So, this Krishna Consciousness movement is for spiritual enlightenment,
[15:54]not for how to get money, how to earn money. This is Krishna Consciousness.
[16:03]Chaitanya Mahaprabhu teaches “na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va jagadisa kamaye,”
[16:11]“Na Dhanam.’ The materialists, what they want? They want money.
[16:19]They want many followers and many subordinates or nice beautiful wife. This is materialist.
[16:30]But Chaitanya Mahaprabhu refuses, ‘Na dhanam.’ No, no, no, I don’t want money.
[16:40]This is teaching. ‘na dhanam na janam,’ I don’t want to rule over somebody. No. Not.
[16:51]“na dhanam na janam na sundarim kavitam va,” a poetic imagination of nice beautiful wife.
[16:59]These things I do not want. What is then ‘bhagavat-bhakti-yoga?’
[17:06]“mama janmani janaisvare bhavatad bhaktir ahaitiku tvayi.”
[17:11]Then ‘bhagavat-bhakta,’ do not want even liberation.
[17:17]Why Chaitanya Mahaprahu saying ‘janmani janmani’ birth after birth?
[17:22]One who is liberated he does not take anymore birth in this material world.
[17:28]Those who are impersonalists, they merge into the effulgence, bodily rays of Krishna
[17:35]and those who are devotees they get permission to enter into Vaikuntha or Goloka Vrnadavana.
[17:42]So, if you want ‘prasanna-manaso’ always jubilation, that is spiritual life.
[18:00]Not that always morose, making some plans.
[18:05]That is not spiritual life. You don’t find any materialistic person jubilant.
[18:15]He’s morose, and thinking and smoking cigarette and drinking. Making some big, big plan.
[18:21]That is materialist. And ‘bhagavat-bhakti-yogotah?’ ‘Prasanna-manaso.’
[18:30]In Bhagavad-Gita, “brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na kanksati’ ‘prasanannatma.’
[18:38]This is spiritual life. As soon as you become actually in spiritual life,
[18:44]never mind either you impersonal philosophy or personal philosophy both of them are spiritualists
[18:53]only the difference is the impersonalists think I am spirit. God is spirit,
[19:00]therefore we one, we merge into this, ‘sayuja mukti.’ Krishna gives them, ‘sayuja-mukti,’
[19:05]but that is not very safe. Because, “ananda-mayo ‘bhyasat,”
[19:13]‘ananda’ real ‘ananda’ cannot be realized oneself, there must be two.
[19:22]Love does not mean I love myself and meditate upon love.
[19:27]No, there must be another person, lover. Therefore,
[19:35]‘dvaita-vada.’ As soon as you come to the ‘bhakti’ school, there must be ‘dvaita vada.’
[19:42]Two. Krishna and Krishna’s devotee.
[19:50]And, the exchange of Krishna and Krishna’s servant is called ‘bhakti.’
[19:55]The dealings, that is called ‘bhakti.’
[19:59]Therefore, it is said, “bhagavad-bhakti-yogatah.” Not monism. Oneness.
[20:07]There is always the ‘bhakta.’
[20:13]Devotees trying to please Krishna, they, just like gopis, the topmost devotees.
[20:22]Their only business is to please Krishna. That’s all.
[20:28]Therefore Chaitanya Mahaprabhu recommended,
[20:31]“rama kacidupasana vrajavadhu vargena ya kalpita.”
[20:36]There cannot be better method of worship than the process which the gopis adopted.
[20:47]They did not care for anything. The gopis, some of them were engaged in household affairs,
[20:58]somebody was talking with husband, sometimes taking care of the children,
[21:03]some of them were boiling milk.
[21:07]A soon as there was Krishna’s flute, everything left and then:
[21:12]“Where are you going?” Husband, brother, father. “Where are you going?”
[21:15]No, don’t care. Krishna’s flute is there, we do not know anything.
[21:22]This is the most, highest, topmost, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu.
[21:31]Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was so strict that a woman could not come very near
[21:40]to offer him obeisances, from little distance.
[21:45]Chaitanya Mahaprabhu as a sannyasi, He was so strict. Of course, that should be the principle,
[21:54]but, especially in your country that cannot be very strictly observed.
[22:01]But at least one should be very careful.
[22:06]So, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu was so strict, He’s eulogizing the gopis’ love of Krishna.
[22:21]So that gopis love is not ordinary thing, this, it is transcendental.
[22:27]Otherwise how Chaitanya Mahaprabhu appreciates?
[22:30]How Sukadeva Goswami appreciates Krishna lila?
[22:38]This Krishna lila is not ordinary thing, it is spiritual.
[22:42]So, unless one is situated firmly in ‘bhakti-yoga,’ they should not try to understand
[22:54]what is the pastimes of the gopis with Krishna. That will be dangerous.
[23:02]Narottama das Thakur, he says,
[23:06]“rupa raghunatha-pade hoibe akuti kabe hama bujhabo se jugala-piriti.”
[23:13]‘jugala-piriti.’ The loving dealings between Radha and Krishna.
[23:21]‘jugala’ means couple. ‘piriti’ means love. So Narottama das Saraswat…
[23:32]the exalted acarya, he said when I shall be able to understand?
[23:39]Not that I have understood everything. Not that I have understood everything.
[23:45]This is ‘vijnanam.’ ‘bhagavat-tattva-vijanam.’
[23:49]So you should be very careful to understand the science
[23:55]and the science can be understood through the mercy of the spiritual master.
[24:02]Therefore, Visvanatha Cakravarti Thakura says, “yasya prasadad.”
[24:07]First of all try to please your spiritual master. Then try to understand.
[24:12]So, it is a great science. “tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya
[24:21]upadeksyanti te jnanam jnaninas tattva-darsinah.” This is the process.
[24:31]First of all, surrender yourself. I shall surrender to you. All right. Now I don’t like it. What is this?
[24:39]What is this surrender? Now I don’t like it. That means there was no surrender.
[24:47]Surrender does not mean now I surrender and if you do not please me,
[24:52]if you do not satisfy my senses, then I don’t like it. That is not surrender.
[24:59]Surrender, the example is given by Bhaktivinode Thakur: dog. Very good example.
[25:12]The dog surrenders to the master, fully. Even if the master kills him, he does not protest.
[25:21]This is the example. “vaisnava thakura tomara kurkoru bolari janna amore.”
[25:27]Vaishnava Thakura, my revered spiritual master you are the best of vaishnavas,
[25:35]please accept me as your dog. That is surrender.
[25:44]So…real surrender begins, “mayy asakta-manah partha yogam yunjan mad-asrayah
[25:54]“ashrya loya bhaje Krishna tare nahi tyaje.”
[26:01]One who executes devotional service taking shelter of bona fide spiritual master,
[26:10]Krishna will never give him up. He’ll accept him.
[26:13]“asraya loya bhaje Krishna tare nahi tyaje ‘are sabe muria kare.” (?)
[26:20]Others, they will simply waste their time. That’s all.
[26:25]So this is “bhagavad-bhakti-yoga’ adau gurvasrayam ‘sat dharma priccha, sadhu-marga-anugamana.”
[26:33]Everything’s there, in the devotional service, in the Nectar of Devotion, teachings of Lord Chaitanya,
[26:42]Srimad Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-Gita, we are publishing.
[26:45]If you do not understand, if you think that these books are for sale, and we are all learned,
[26:54]we have learned everything, finished, our bisiness is finished, that will not improve the condition.
[27:04]“prasanna-manaso bhagavad-bhakti-yogatah bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam.”
[27:11]It is a science. As you learn science, just like our Svarup Damodara, Dr.,
[27:19]he’s now a doctor, we have got another doctor in New Vrndavana, he’s also scientist…
[27:27]So, if you want to take the doctorate title that is also the surrender.
[27:34]There are committees, three, four men committees.
[27:36]When they certify, yes, this is all right, this thesis presented by such and such, it is approved.
[27:44]Then you get. So everywhere there is, “tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigaccet.”
[27:52]So, if we are not serious about understanding the science of Krishna,
[27:59]if you take some opportunity to become this, to become that
[28:05]and make some money and this and that, then your whole thing is finished.
[28:08]For opportunist there is no Krishna Consciousness. For the real surrendered soul, ‘mad-asrayah.’
[28:18]So, ‘bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam.’ Everyone, we are, at least, we have enlisted ourselves
[28:30]to become graduate in ‘bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam,’ this it the process. ‘mad-asrayah,’
[28:39]Krishna says. ‘mad-asrayah’ mans, ‘yogam yunjan mad-asrayah.’
[28:43]To become under Krishna or, that is not possible, because without taking shelter of Krishna’s servant,
[28:56]“gopi-bhartuh pada-kamalayor dasa-dasanudasah.”
[29:00]We have to become servant of the servant of the servant of Krishna.
[29:05]Not aspiring I shall become directly servant of Krishna.
[29:13]That is ‘mayavada.’ Our process is the servant of. Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu teahes this, servant of the…
[29:21]The more one has become servant of the hundred generation down, he’s perfect.
[29:28]So, try to understand, “bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam mukta-sangasya-jayate bhagavat-tattva-vijnanam.”
[29:42]This science, who can understand? ‘mukta-sangasya.’ ‘mukta’ means liberated.
[29:49]And ‘sanga’ means association.
[29:51]So, association means we are always, we are contaminated by the material nature.
[29:59]Sometimes we are good, sometimes we are passionate, sometimes we are rascal.
[30:06]There are three ‘gunas.’ Some of them are very good.
[30:14]And some of them are passionate and some of them are rascals.
[30:18]So we have to transcend even the platform of so-called goodness.
[30:25]That is called ‘mukta-sanga.’ Because in the material life we are always
[30:33]associating with these ‘gunas,’ three qualities. ‘guna-mayi maya,’
[30:39]‘daivi hy esa guna-mayi,’ ‘guna-mayi.’ ‘guna.’
[30:46]These three ‘gunas.’ So it is very difficult.
[30:51]Sometimes we are on the platform of goodness then we are down into passion,
[30:56]then we fall down into ignorance or some ignorance I rise again
[30:59]in goodness and again fall down, this is going on.
[31:03]But, therefore, you have to become ‘mukta-sangasya.’ Above all of these qualities. Above it.
[31:16]I’m very good man, I’m good manager, I’m this…you have to surpass that also.
[31:20]That is called ‘mukta-sangasya.’ So, is possible when we are sincerely engaged
[31:30]in devotional service, just like the Deity worship.
[31:33]The Deity worship means gradually to become ‘mukta-sanga.’
[31:37]Therefore, Deith worship is essential.
[31:40]There is process, you must all rise early in the morning, you must take bath,
[31:46]you should offer ‘mangala-arotik,’ then after that after that, dressing, some flowering,
[31:53]in this way if you always remain then gradually you will become ‘mukta-sanga.’
[31:56]
