# December 18 ## Spoken on December 18 *Lectures from this day: 6 recordings* --- **[1966: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.255–281](spoken/1966/661218cc.ny.md)** > Now, in the *Bhagavad-gītā* you have read that *mahad-yonir mahad-brahma tāsām...* It is stated there that *ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā* : "I implement the seeds of living entities into the matter." So in the matter the living..., the seeds of living entities, as we are, they are impregnated. As the father impregnates the mother, similarly, this material nature is just like mother, and therefore material nature is worshiped as mother, goddess, mother goddess, Durgā, Kālī. Yes. And this worship of the country, nationalism, that is also the same matter-worship. *Yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke*. > So from this version of the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* that the living entities as seeds, they are coming from the spiritual world. They are not product of the matter. Therefore it is not possible to produce living entity with material chemicals and material elements. It is not possible. As some of the modern scientists they claim that "We shall now give life," or they advertise in that way, so from this verse we can understand that it is not possible. Because these living entities, they are just like seeds, and they are coming from the spiritual world, from the body of the Supreme. Those spiritual, I mean to say, living entities are desirous of enjoying sense gratification, they are allowed to this material world; others, they are in the spiritual world. --- **[1973: Morning Walk](spoken/1973/731218mw.la)** > That is stated in the *Bhāgavata, tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ* : "As you have changed so many times in this life this body, similarly, after death you will change your body." So that is authority. You have to hear. Anything you do not..., cannot perceive, you cannot experiment with your senses, you have to hear from another person who knows. That is the process. Why you think your eyes are so perfect that you can see everything? Why you are thinking like rascal? Your eyes are imperfect, and why you are thinking that eyes are your perfect? That is rascaldom. "I cannot see." You cannot see so many things. Is that a right proposition, "I cannot see"? What you are? What is your position of eyes? If there is darkness, you cannot see. So does it mean that your seeing is the only evidence? What do you think? Suppose if you are a blind man, what can you see? > "As the Communist party, they are preaching godlessness, now America should preach, 'No. In God we trust.' Now there should be a fight—not on the political point of view, but actually it includes everything. A class of men godless and a class of men who knows God, there should be fight. Then there will be peace in the world. The class of men who do not believe in God, they should be punished, because they are creating all the troubles. A man who trusts in God, he is the ideal man. He will never create any trouble. Therefore this science should be learned very scientifically. And we are prepared. And you also must be able to teach them. Then it will be successful." --- **[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.15.40](spoken/1973/731218sb.la)** > Therefore our position is perfect, because we are not following rascals and fools. We are following Kṛṣṇa, the supreme perfect. I may be imperfect. That's a fact. I am imperfect. Just like a child is imperfect. That's a fact. But so long he follows the father, catching his hand, he is perfect. He is perfect. He has no danger. He has no danger. Similarly, anyone who is not Kṛṣṇa conscious, and following blindly some rascals, he is imperfect and he will suffer. And because we have taken Kṛṣṇa's shelter, Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇam*. > So if you actually are serious about stopping this rascaldom and wish to go back to home, back to Godhead, then you have to take this Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Because by becoming Kṛṣṇa conscious, you become fully qualified. *Yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā sarvair guṇais tatra... . Because this surrendering to Kṛṣṇa, that is the perfection of intelligence. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.26.6](spoken/1974/741218sb.bom)** > So we are all sons of God. This is a fact. Either I am human being or demigod or cats or dog or tree or plants or insect—anything, all living entities. Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-yoniṣu. Sarva-yoniṣu* mean "All different forms or species of life, as many living entities there are, they are all My sons." *Ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā* : "I am the seed-giving father," or "They are all My sons." This is our relationship. Actually, this is our relationship with Kṛṣṇa. And as the father and son relationship means the son may live at the cost of the father... Father has got immense property, they can enjoy, but they must remain very obedient to the father—very natural—then he is happy. If the father is very rich man, he has got all the resources, and if the son is obedient, then where is trouble? Is there any trouble? Father wants simply... Father is ready to give all the property to the sons. That is natural inclination. And the son's duty is to just to become obedient to the father. > So we are *nitya-baddha,* eternally bound up, by these laws of material nature, and we are wandering throughout the universe according to *karma. Ūrdhvaṁ gacchanti sattva-sthāḥ*. If we work on the *sattva-guṇa... Guṇaiḥ karmāṇi...* We... there are so many varieties. So we may go sometimes up to Brahmaloka. That is not very difficult. But *ābrahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino 'rjuna*. Either you go to Brahmaloka or Pātālaloka or any *loka,* this form or that body, you will have to go through these four principles of material condition: birth, death, old age and disease. That is not possible to overcome. That you can overcome only—*mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti te*. Therefore the conclusion is that instead of serving under the spell of material nature, let us immediately transfer our position to become the original. Original means eternal servant of God, Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, *jīvera svarūpa haya nitya-kṛṣṇa-dāsa*. That is our constitutional position. We are eternal servant of God, Kṛṣṇa. So if we take to it immediately... Kṛṣṇa says also, *mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti te.* The spell of *māyā* we can overcome if we immediately take the instruction of Kṛṣṇa, that He says, "You surrender unto Me, and I shall give you all protection from the sinful reaction of your life." --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751218mw.bom)** > Ānukūlyena,* favorably. Always wait, as Kṛṣṇa becomes satisfied, for the order. Then you are perfect. *Ānukūlyena-kṛṣṇānuśilanam bhaktir uttamā.* That is first-class *bhakti.* It doesn't require any education. Just like Hanumānjī. He was not born in a human society even, but he was always ready to execute the order of Rāmacandra.* [Transl. Beg alms from others for livelihood and become God!] > A *Vaiṣṇava* means he must give up the association of nondevotees. Then the question will be, "Who is nondevotee?" *Asat-strī-saṅgī kṛṣṇa abhakta...* One who is too much attached to material enjoyment. *Strī-saṅgī* is the basic point, and one who is not a devotee of Kṛṣṇa, he is *asat. Asat-saṅga-tyāga ei...,* in two lines. And the moralist, Cānakya Paṇḍita, he also said, *tyaja durjana-saṁsargaṁ bhaja sādhu-samāgamam.* You give up something, you must take something. Otherwise you will not be able to stay. --- ## Letters on December 18 *Letters from this day: 13* --- **[1970: Letter to Bhagavan](letters/1970/701218_bhagavan)** > That will be very nice and the selected members are approved by me. These branches are like the *oasis in a vast desert.* In the desert there is no water, but occasionally if one is fortunate he may come in contact with an oasis and he is saved. --- **[1970: Letter to Karandhara](letters/1970/701218_karandhara)** > I have just come to Surat from Indore as we are travelling often now and I have just received your letters addressed to Bombay from where my mail is regularly forwarded. --- **[1970: Letter to Krsna Dasa](letters/1970/701218_krsna_dasa)** > Actually I cannot claim any credit for myself, but I say if any credit is due, it is due to the fact that I have not deviated from the original instructions. --- **[1971: Letter to Vaikunthanatha](letters/1971/711218_vaikunthanatha)** > I have only just now received your letter undated, in which you refer to a decision to be made by the government on October 11 whether or not we shall get a large building on that land. --- **[1972: Letter to Sankarsana](letters/1972/721218_sankarsana)** > Your question is whether you can utilize your inclination to play the guitar and write songs about Krishna in devotional manner of activity. --- **[1973: Letter to Govinda](letters/1973/731218_govinda)** > I understand however that out of the sale of the Temple, $54,000.00 was taken as net proceeds so where is the balance money? I also understand that Balabhadra has been paid $15,000.00 by Gaurasundara so $15,000.00 and $20,000.00 makes $35,000.00 so where is the balance of $19,000.00? --- **[1974: Letter to Rupanuga](letters/1974/741218_rupanuga)** > Your sankirtana reports are very encouraging, especially that one girl, Gauri dasi, who has set an all ISKCON women's record of 108 big books. Formerly this would have been considered impossible, but now by Krsna's grace everything is becoming possible. --- **[1975: Letter to Acyutananda Yasodanandana](letters/1975/751218_acyutananda_yasodanandana)** > The books are already on the way. Sankirtana will always be appreciated, because it is the special blessings of Lord Caitanya Mahaprabhu on the people of this fallen age of Kali. Sukadeva Goswami says, this age is an ocean of faults, but there is one boon, in this age one gets the same result as was achieved in former ages through elaborate temple worship, costly sacrifices, or introspective meditation, simply by chanting the Holy Name of The Lord. --- **[1975: Letter to All Temple Presidents](letters/1975/751218_all_temple_presidents)** > Morris Yanoff with a news paper clipping explaining the disappearance of his Grandson David Yanoff age 12 years. --- **[1975: Letter to Bhakta Steven Knapp](letters/1975/751218_bhakta_steven_knapp)** > It is said in the Bhagavad-gita that out of thousands of men, only one takes an interest in the perfection of human life. --- **[1975: Letter to Brsni](letters/1975/751218_brsni)** > I am in receipt of your letter dated December 8, 1975. The Deities may be carved without hair or dhoties, and then later they can be dressed. --- **[1975: Letter to Tamala Krsna](letters/1975/751218_tamala_krsna)** > Yes we can print instead of 20,000, 50,000 copies of the first editions of each book, ask Ramesvara to do it. Your idea for holding Jagannatha festival in the big cities is approved by me, do it. --- **[1975: Letter to Tulsi](letters/1975/751218_tulsi)** > So if we want to be happy in this life and the next we have to worship Visnu. He was trying to satisfy his country, and his country killed him. ---
