## Spoken on December 11
*Lectures from this day: 13 recordings*

**[1966: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.152–154](spoken/1966/661211cc.ny.md)**
> So this is called *advaya-jñāna.* Similarly, when we read *Bhagavad-gītā,* that is also Kṛṣṇa. Therefore we should pay respect. When we enter into the temple of Kṛṣṇa, it should be understood that we are in touch with Kṛṣṇa. Everything in relationship is Kṛṣṇa. That is the highest... Therefore the devotees who are in the higher conception of Kṛṣṇa consciousness sees nothing before him save and except Kṛṣṇa. That is not to be imitated, but the stage, in the higher stage, the devotee sees nothing but Kṛṣṇa. *Sarvatra sphūraya tāṅra iṣṭa-deva mūrti*.
> Everything is relationship Kṛṣṇa. Matter is energy of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore energy and the energetic, not being different, so even in the material world he sees Kṛṣṇa. So for him, there is no matter; everything spiritual. *Advaya-jñāna.* There is no matter at all. Just like in Kṛṣṇa, he has no distinction what is matter, what is spirit, but in our conditioned stage we have got "superior," "inferior" conception. But when we are also in the higher stage of the Absolute Truth, *brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā na śocati na kāṅkṣati*, when we are actually in devotional..., such pure devotional service in Kṛṣṇa, then we will see that everything is Kṛṣṇa.
---
**[1968: Bhagavad-gītā 2.27–38](spoken/1968/681211bg.la)**
> So because we are in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, even if we do not understand what is the constitutional position of the soul, here, because Kṛṣṇa says, we should accept it. This is called *paramparā. Evaṁ paramparā-prāptam*, disciplic succession.
> Therefore the conclusion is there, *na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. Even after this body is annihilated, the soul remains eternal. Just like if somebody comes and drives us out of this room, that does not mean that I am finished. I shall go and take shelter of another room. Similarly, when the soul, when the body is killed or annihilated by nature or by force, the soul takes shelter of another body. That is the conclusion.
---
**[1970: Speech to Mahārāja and Mahārāṇī](spoken/1970/701211le.ind)**
> So that was the Hindu culture, that in spite of being punished by the king, he accepts the king as the representative of Nārāyaṇa. And actually, the..., Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Lord, He is the proprietor of everything. *Bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasāṁ sarva-loka-maheśvaram*.* He is the proprietor of... *Īśāvāsyam idaṁ sarvam* [Īśo*mantra* 1]. Therefore, to govern a planet there is representative of Kṛṣṇa. In the heavenly planets there is Indra. In the sun planet there is Vivasvān. In the Brahmaloka there is Lord Brahmā. Similarly, there are different planets and different representative of Kṛṣṇa.
> So therefore Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement and the support of the royal family is very old relationship. And at the present moment people need this Kṛṣṇa consciousness very badly. Without Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the whole world is going to hell. And you can practically see how they are changing..., how this movement is changing character and mentality of the population. So I have come here. I wish that both of you will be kindly enough to patronize this movement to your best capacity.
---
**[1970: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.16–19](spoken/1970/701211sb.bom)**
> Duratyayā* means—very, very difficult to get out of the clutches of My *māyā*. This *māyā* is Kṛṣṇa's *māyā*. Just like the criminal department is also government's department. Government has equal attention to the criminal department, similarly *māyā* is also Kṛṣṇa's *māyā*. Nobody is out of Kṛṣṇa's clutches. So therefore the theory that Kṛṣṇa when He comes, He also becomes under the control of *māyā*. That is a nonsense theory. No. Kṛṣṇa does not become under the control of *māyā*. That is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā*, Kṛṣṇa says: *sambhavāmy ātma-māyayā*. He is not forced to come here. We are forced to accept something. I have been forced to accept a certain type body. You have been forced to accept certain type of body. But Kṛṣṇa is not that. Kṛṣṇa does not accept a body forced upon him by *māyā*. Then you'll mistake. Therefore in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is stated that: *avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā*.
> Akutaḥ-bhayaṁ* means—there is no risk. The same thing is explained in the *Bhagavad-gītā* also, ninth chapter. The Lord says that, *su-sukhaṁ kartum avyayam*. These process, this Kṛṣṇa consciousness is so nice. It is the easiest process. Now to remain always in contact with Kṛṣṇa is our program. And somehow even sleeping, one has to have think of Kṛṣṇa. If one has to rise early in the morning, then while sleeping he is also very alert. "So I must have to rise, I have to awaken Kṛṣṇa." So that means in sleeping he is also thinking of Kṛṣṇa. You see? Then after *ārati*[?] he takes care of the temple room and Kṛṣṇa seeings[?] then after further encagement, further encagement, further encagement, in this way up to 10 or 11 or 12. If you keep yourself—then it is very nice. To *māyā* is awake and all these hours *māyā* is awake. Therefore this path is recommended, it is accepted by all sages, all saintly person. *Ārādhito yadi haris tapasā tataḥ kim* [*Nārada Pañcarātra* 1.2.6].
---
**[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.7.4](spoken/1971/711211sb.del)**
> The whole world is full of conditioned living entities. They're conditioned. Conditioned means under the control of the material nature. *Guṇaiḥ karmāṇi*. There are different types of conditioned souls. Some of them are good conditioned soul, some of them are passionate conditioned soul, some of them are rascal conditioned soul. So good conditioned soul means that, er, he thinks himself that "I have become very much learned, I have studied so many books, so now I am perfect.'' There is little goodness, because he has studied, he..., he has labored, but still he's conditioned soul, because he has imperfect vision.
> He is insulted so many place, but still, but he's so learned, if, if anyone..., anywhere he goes and reads scriptures and *Vedas*, he can give very good reference and very nicely explain, but the conclusion is dull. Conclusion is dull means again he has come to this philanthropic work. So therefore *Bhāgavata* says, *āruhya kṛcchreṇa*: "Although they have undergone great austerities, penances,'' *āruhya kṛcchreṇa paraṁ padam*, "realized to some extent the Supreme Absolute Truth,'' but *patanty adhaḥ*, "falls down.''
---
**[1972: Bhagavad-gītā 2.2–6](spoken/1972/721211bg.ahm)**
> So this Āryan system, progressive system, is *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ*. Kṛṣṇa says, "It is introduced by Me for very good management of the social order"—*brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra.* So Arjuna belonged to the *kṣatriya* family. Therefore his hesitation to fight in the battlefield is not befitting the Āryan. For the royal order to become nonviolent, this is not good. The *kṣatriyas,* when they are fighting in the battlefield, the killing is not a sin for them.
> So it was the duty of the *kṣatriya* to fight. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is condemning his behavior, that "This is not befitting a *kṣatriya.* By this action, you will be defamed." *Akīrti-karam arjuna*. "You are such a nice fighter, soldier, and if you cease to fight, then the other party will defame you in so many ways. What you are thinking of? Especially you are My friend. I am standing here. Despite My becoming your chariot driver, if you decline to fight, certainly it will be a great havoc. Don't do this."
---
**[1973: Morning Walk](spoken/1973/731211mw.la)**
> And the America will be the best person to be educated in this line and to lead, to become the leader. They're already leader, but they must be real leader now, so that the whole world may be happy. That I can give direction. If the topmost American gentlemen come to me, I can give them direction how they can become the world leader. Actual leader, not bogus leader. Because God has favored them so many things. And this movement has been started from America. I started this movement from New York. So it should be taken very seriously by the government.
> Everything should be reformed: political, social, and be, you American nation—you're favored nation, that I am always speaking—you should utilize the favor of God and be yourself perfect, and be leader of the whole world. Anyone who is not believer in God, he should be punished. Because he's animal. He is animal, and he is posing himself as human being. Cheater. Human life is meant for *tapasya,* for understanding God. That is human life. This dog's life, cat's life, this is not human life. If you become a very powerful tiger, is that human life? They're thinking like that. "If I become as strong as a tiger, then there we are perfect nation." Then what is the use of tiger? It is simply kill only. What other intelligence he has got?

**[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.15.33](spoken/1973/731211sb.la)**
> "I am the origin of everything." If Kṛṣṇa is truth, He is the origin of everything, so how everything can be false? Is that very logical? No. If something has come from gold... Just like we have got so many preparation of gold: gold bangles, gold earring, gold necklace. But it has come from the gold; therefore it is gold. How it can be false? Gold is never false. Gold is gold. So this philosophy that *brahma satyaṁ jagan mithyā,* that "Gold mine is right, but the gold earring is wrong..." No. That you cannot say. If gold mine is right, then gold earring is also right, because it has come from the gold mine. Similarly, Kṛṣṇa says that *ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavaḥ:* "I am the origin of everything." And the *Vedānta-sūtra* also says, *janmādy asya yataḥ:* "Absolute Truth is that from whom everything emanates."
> Just like big, big *svāmīs* in India—sometimes they come to your country also—they say that "This world is false," *jagan mithyā. Mithyā.* But we don't say that it is false. We say it is reality, but temporary. That is right philosophy. How it can be false? Because everything is produced by the Truth, by the Absolute Truth. *Janmādy asya yataḥ.* Nothing can come out except from the Absolute Truth. Kṛṣṇa says, *ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavaḥ :
---
**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.25.43](spoken/1974/741211sb.bom)**
> Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *manaḥ ṣaṣṭhānīndriyāṇi prakṛti-sthāni karṣati. Mamaivāṁśo jīva-bhūtaḥ* : "All these living entities..." Kṛṣṇa does not say that "I am for the Hindu living entities or the Indian living entities." Where it is in *Bhagavad-gītā*? Why the foolish men take it that Kṛṣṇa Hindu, Kṛṣṇa Indian? Kṛṣṇa says that *suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām:* "I am friend of all living entities," *sarva-bhūtānām.* Not only human society, but animal society, the plant society, the aquatic society. There are so many living entities. *Ananta-koṭi. Sa anantyāya kalpate.* The living entities, there is no limit; there are so many quantities. And Kṛṣṇa says that *suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānāṁ jñātvā māṁ śāntim ṛcchati:* "When one understands that I, Kṛṣṇa, is the friend of everyone..." Kṛṣṇa, when says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*, He does not say to Arjuna; He says to all living entities, without any exception. *Sarva-bhūtānām. Suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām.* This is position of Kṛṣṇa.
> So by giving up Kṛṣṇa... We have now given up Kṛṣṇa. We are canvassing. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, we are canvassing everyone, every door, "Please come to Kṛṣṇa." This is our business. But they will not come. They have forgotten Kṛṣṇa or they have rejected Kṛṣṇa. This is the position. Therefore they are always in fearfulness position, always fearful. *Bhayaṁ dvitīyābhiniveśataḥ syāt*. This is certain. When there is fear? When one understands there is something else than Kṛṣṇa, then he is fearful. Then he is fearful. *Dvitīyābhiniveśataḥ. Dvitīya* means forgetfulness of Kṛṣṇa. "I am Kṛṣṇa's eternal servant. I am Kṛṣṇa's eternal part and parcel, son of, most intimate relationship." *Ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā,* Kṛṣṇa says. *Sarva-yoniṣu kaunteya*, Kṛṣṇa says. There are so many forms of life, 8,400,000. But Kṛṣṇa claims, *ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā,* "I am the seed-giving father of everyone." So where is Kṛṣṇa Hindu or Indian? Where it is stated? Why people take like that? That is not fact.
---
**[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751211mw.vrn)**
> Spirit of service must be maintained. ...*mukhe hi jivadau svayam eva sphuraty adaḥ* [[cc/madhya/17/136|[Cc. Madhya 17.136] ]]. By service spirit, beginning with tongue: Hare Kṛṣṇa. Then everything is revealed, Vaikuṇṭha atmosphere. Sethjī has not come out. [break] Yes.
---
**[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.6.9](spoken/1975/751211sb.vrn)**
> The material education means attachment education. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura has said, *'jaḍa vidyā saba māyāra vaibhava:* [*Śaraṇāgati,* song 3.3] our attachment for this material world, it is *māyā,* illusion. *Māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān*. This material happiness is made by *māyā,* and they are making gorgeous arrangement, these fools and rascals, *māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān.* They're making gorgeous arrangement. Why? Because they are *vimūḍhān,* all rascals. "Why rascals? They are scientists, they are philosophers." That's all right, but after making all these arrangements, you are under the clutches of *māyā.* You are not free from the clutches of *māyā.* So why you are wasting time in this way? You cannot..., you did not make any solution or any assurance that whatever you are creating for enjoyment you will be able to enjoy. No. That is not possible. That they do not see. They are constructing big, big roads, motorcars and skyscraper building, but there is no assurance that you'll be able to enjoy it. That is not possible. At any moment, finished. Your skyscraper building, your big, big road, your big, big motorcars, it will remain where you manufactured, and you have to leave. That they do not see. This is called *mūḍhā. Mūḍho nābhijānāti.* They..., they're not... They are afraid of death, but on account of foolishness they declare, "Oh, we don't... We are not afraid of death." They're afraid.
> So actually we should not increase our foolishness. Human life is meant for utilizing our intelligence. That is human life. Instead of utilizing intelligence, if we increase our foolishness, that's the wrong type of civilization. That is not actual civilization. So Caitanya Mahāprabhu very kindly inaugurated this civilization, Kṛṣṇa consciousness, the same thing as it is confirmed in the *Vedas: vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ janayaty āśu vairāgyam*. Āśu:* "very soon." The examples are here. You are Europeans and Americans; you were attached to so many things. But because you have taken to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, means *vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogam.* This, you have come to Vṛndāvana to worship Vāsudeva, Kṛṣṇa, or in your country we have established so many temples. In account of being engaged in the devotional service of Vāsudeva, although you are young boys and girls, you have given up so many nonsense things. This is called *vairāgya.* This is called *vairāgya,* detachment. Meat-eating is the general life of Europeans and Americans, but at the present moment if somebody offers you millions of dollars and he requests you that "You take some meat with me," I think you will deny it. This is called *vairāgya.* This is called *vairāgya.* I've actually seen our Gargamuni was sent to his father. I advised him that "Your father has big business. Just take it for Kṛṣṇa consciousness." So father was very glad, his father, but he offered meat, and when he said, "Father, Daddy, I cannot take meat," then the father became angry. He drove him away. Hiraṇyakaśipu father. So he came back. The young man, father's property, he refused to take it.
---
**[1976: Bhagavad-gītā 7.6](spoken/1976/761211bg.hyd)**
> So we have to rectify this mistake, that "We are not this body. This is our external covering. We are spirit soul, part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa." And that is the stage of liberation. *Svarūpeṇa vyavasthitiḥ*. Now we are acting according to the covering. When we shall not act according to the covering but according to our constitutional position, that is liberated platform. Kṛṣṇa consciousness means when we understand that "We are part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore our duty is to serve Kṛṣṇa," this is self-realization; this is liberation. When we are fully convinced about this fact that "We are all part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. Our only duty is to serve Kṛṣṇa," then you are liberated. So the *bhakti* science means to purify. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam*. We are differently conscious. Somebody thinking, "I am American," somebody, "I am Indian." This is not our identification. The identification, when I shall think, as Caitanya Mahāprabhu gives us information, *jīvera svarūpa haya nitya-kṛṣṇa-dāsa*, that is self-realization. So Kṛṣṇa says,
> So "They are caused by Me," Kṛṣṇa says. The body... Body is the material—earth, water, air, fire and ether, mind, intelligence, ego. They are also emanating from Kṛṣṇa. *Prakṛti..., bhinnā me prakṛtir aṣṭadhā.* The difference is they are not in touch with Kṛṣṇa. But it is Kṛṣṇa's energy. Just like I am speaking and it is being recorded. When it will be replayed, you will find that I am speaking, but that speaking is separated. The speaking has come from me, but in the tape record it appears that it is separated. Or it is separated. In one sense it is not separated, because originally comes from me, and another sense, it is mechanical going on. So similarly, this material world is also Kṛṣṇa. *Idaṁ hi viśvaṁ bhagavān ivetaraḥ*. This material world is emanating from Kṛṣṇa. *Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavaḥ : "I am the origin of everything." "Everything" means there are two things: one *jaḍa* and one *cetana,* matter and spirit. There are two things. Matter is coming from Kṛṣṇa, and the spirit is also coming from Kṛṣṇa. Therefore He is the original cause, *sarva-kāraṇa-kāraṇam.*
