# December 2 ## Spoken on December 2 *Lectures from this day: 8 recordings* --- **[1966: Bhagavad-gītā 9.15–18](spoken/1966/661202bg.ny.md)** > But this form, these two hands, with flute, Kṛṣṇa, form of Kṛṣṇa, there is nothing beyond this. So one has to come to this point. You may go in different way, accepting yourself as God, accepting everything as God, accepting the universal form of God. If you make actually progress, then you have come to this point. *Sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ.* Again He says *mahātmā.* When he comes to that point of Kṛṣṇa, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante...*. This process you have to proceed, you have to make progress, many, many births. That is line. You have taken the line, that's all right. But it will take some time. Not in one life you'll come to that point. > So our ultimate aim is how to become in confidence of the Supreme Lord. So if you want to be in confidence of the Supreme Lord, then you have to take this devotional service. *Bhaktyā mām abhijānāti, yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ*. The Lord says, "One can confidentially understand Me by *bhakti,* by devotional service, not by any other means." "Not by any other means." *Bhaktyā.* It is clearly stated. So if you want to be directly in touch, directly in touch with the president, then you have to work differently. And if you are satisfied to become a constable in the government service, that is a different thing. You cannot contact. So there, although everything is God worship, still, there are degrees, there are differences. We must remember. --- **[1966: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.119–121](spoken/1966/661202cc.ny.md)** > So Lord Caitanya is giving evidence from *Bhagavad-gītā: daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī.* Why you cannot yourself get out of these material clutches? The reason is this: *daivī hy eṣā.* It is, material clutches is so powerful, you cannot get out of it. It is not possible. *Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā.* "This material nature, which is My energy," Lord Kṛṣṇa says, "it is very strong. Very strong." In the history you'll never find that anybody has overcome the laws of material nature by his own effort. No. It is not possible. Therefore the modern scientific world who are trying to conquer over the laws of material nature by their teeny scientific arrangement, they are all fools. It is not possible. Not possible. > Therefore it is advised that our fearfulness: "How I shall live? What I shall eat? Where I shall live? Where I'll, I'll have my shelter...?" We are always perplexed with all these fearfulness. Why? Because we have forgotten that there is one who is giving me all protection. We are..., we have become so foolish that, that the lower animals than the human being, they have no economic problem. They are freely living. In the morning they do not care where they shall eat. But there is eating. No animal, no bird, is dying of starvation. Have you seen any animal or any bird has died out of starvation? And who is providing him? So they have no economic problem. --- **[1968: Bhagavad-gītā 7.1](spoken/1968/681202bg.la)** > This is also Kṛṣṇa's *dhāma,* because everything belongs to God, Kṛṣṇa. Nobody's proprietor. This claim that "This land, America, belongs to us, United States," this is false claim. It does not belong to you, nobody else. Just like some years ago, four hundred years ago, it belonged to the Indians, Red Indians, and some way or other, you have now occupied. Who can say that others will not come here and occupy? So this is all false claim. Actually, everything belongs to Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa says that *sarva-loka-maheśvaram : "I am the supreme proprietor, controller, of all planets." So everything belongs to Him. > So *Bhagavad-gītā* gives you the solution of these four problems. And Kṛṣṇa here is suggesting, *mayy āsakta-manāḥ pārtha yogaṁ yuñjan mad-āśrayaḥ*. If you take shelter of Kṛṣṇa and if you think of Kṛṣṇa always—your consciousness become always overwhelmed with Kṛṣṇa thoughts—then Kṛṣṇa says the result will be *asaṁśayaṁ samagraṁ māṁ yathā jñāsyasi tac chṛṇu:* "Then you will understand Me perfectly, without any doubt." --- **[1968: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.2.5](spoken/1968/681202sb.la)** > This life of spiritual execution cannot be hampered by any material condition. From *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* we understand that *sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhokṣaje*. That is the highest type of religious performances, by which one can achieve the perfection of loving God. *Yato bhaktir adhokṣaje. Bhakti* means to offer transcendental loving service to the Supreme Lord. *Bhakti. Bhaj-dhātu sevayā[?]. Bhaj. Bhaj-dhātu,* it is a verb, *bhaj. Bhaj* means to render service, just like servant renders service to the master, friend service to the friend..., renders service to the friend, wife renders service to the husband, husband renders service to the wife. > To become lover of God means fully enlightened in consciousness. He sees that "Here is an ant. This living entity, a small living entity, is also part and parcel. By his own work, he has got this insignificant body as an ant. I have got this human form of body, but that does not make any difference between the soul and the soul." *Paṇḍitāḥ sama-darśinaḥ*. When it becomes actually... When a man becomes actually learned, he's *sama-darśīna,* he sees everyone on the equal level. --- **[1973: Morning Walk](spoken/1973/731202mw.la)** > Therefore he taught him *Bhagavad-gītā,* just to induce him to kill. But he was merciful: "No, they have done so much wrong to me, never mind. They are my relatives. I excuse. I don't want to fight." Yes. This is *Bhagavad-gītā.* You see? Arjuna is more merciful than Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa wanted to see them all killed, because they were, I mean to say, offender to the devotee. Last time Kṛṣṇa says, "Arjuna, you fight or not fight, it is already settled. They are not going back home. They will be killed here. If you like, you take the credit. That's all. It is already settled." Then Arjuna understood that "My Lord is so persistent. [laughter] Why shall I resist Him? All right, I will do what He says." > Brahmā and Śiva, they have come out from Kṛṣṇa, Viṣṇu. So Brahmā, Śiva may not know, but that does not mean Kṛṣṇa does not know. So we are receiving knowledge from Kṛṣṇa. We are not receiving... Or we are receiving knowledge from Kṛṣṇa's representative, who knows Kṛṣṇa. So that is our position. We are not as good as Kṛṣṇa, just the Māyāvādī rascals say. No. We are nothing. We have no value. But we accept what Kṛṣṇa says. That is our qualification. A child is ignorant, but if he speaks what he has learned from his father, that speaking is perfect. Similarly, we admit we are in illusion. But what we are speaking, because that is spoken by Kṛṣṇa, that is not illusion. That is not illusion. That is perfect. [*japa*] [break] --- **[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.15.22–23](spoken/1973/731202sb.la)** > So now the most important thing is that Kṛṣṇa made this plan to kill His descendants. He did not like that they should..., but who will kill them? That is the problem. They are descendants of Kṛṣṇa. Who will kill them? Therefore it was Kṛṣṇa's plan that they will kill themselves. If others come to kill Kṛṣṇa's descendant, then what is the value of Kṛṣṇa's descendant? Nobody could kill, because in Kṛṣṇa's presence, whenever there was fight, all the descendants they came out. And who will conquer them? Nobody. That is not possible. But Kṛṣṇa wanted that before His going away, all these demigods, they must also return. "Return" means this body must be killed. But who will kill them? That was the plan of Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is... *Īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe 'rjuna tiṣṭhati*. He is planning. He made this plan. > Viśatāṁ tamisram. Adānta-gobhir viśatāṁ tamisram*. And they do not know that "I will have to take next birth, and according to my mentality, because I am infecting a certain type of material qualities, in that way I am creating my next body." That he does not know. This is due to intoxication. He is thinking that "My enjoyment life, in this way forever." But he does not know that he is creating the mentality, and according to the mentality, hog's mentality, he will become next life a pig, and he will eat... He has to by force. Not by force; he will relish it. *Māyā...* This is called *āvaraṇātmika-śakti,* covering influence. The pig is eating stool, but he is very much satisfied: "Such a nice food." He is having intercourse with his daughter or sister or mother, he is enjoying. So the hellish condition. --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.25.32](spoken/1974/741202sb.bom)** > That service is not ordinary service. The service to the Lord is not to be calculated as equal to this material service. The Māyāvādī philosophers, they cannot understand it. But Kṛṣṇa says personally that this devotional service is in the transcendental platform, Brahman service. Therefore He says, *māṁ ca 'vyabhicāreṇa bhakti-yogena yah sevate.* This *bhakti-yoga,* one who is actually employed, engaged in pure devotional ser..., *animittā,* without any motive, without any material purpose, that is real spiritual service. > So *animittā bhāgavatī bhaktiḥ siddher garīyasī.* That is better than *siddhi. Siddhi* means self-realization or Brahman realization. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says also. What Kṛṣṇa says and what Kapiladeva says, they are the same thing. Therefore here it is also said, *bhagavān uvāca.* And in the *Bhagavad-gītā* also you will find, *bhagavān uvāca.* Never said *kṛṣṇa uvāca* or *kapila uvāca,* because They are Bhagavān. So those who are self-realized soul, who know what is Bhagavān, so instead of speaking *kapiladeva uvāca,* he says, Vyāsadeva says... *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is compiled by Śrīmad Vyāsadeva. So as *Bhagavad-gītā* also, it was heard by Arjuna, it was released to Sañjaya, and then, from Sañjaya heard Vyāsadeva, and he made it recorded in writing in *Mahābhārata...* So he says, *bhagavān uvāca. Bhagavān uvāca* means that is the perfect version. There is no mistake. If some ordinary man says, there will be so many defects and cheating, because ordinary person has no perfect knowledge. He may be very, very advanced scholar, but that does not mean he is perfect. Perfection is different thing. Perfection means there should be no mistake, no illusion, no cheating and no imperfections of the senses. That is perfection. And therefore it is said here, *bhagavān uvāca.* Bhagavān is all-perfect. Therefore we should take knowledge from Bhagavān or one who speaks according to the version of Bhagavān. We should not hear anybody else. That is imperfect. --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.6.1](spoken/1975/751202sb.vrn)** > So it is not that a demon's son will be demon. That is not... Kṛṣṇa consciousness can be achieved by anyone. Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, māṁ hi pārtha vyapāśritya ye 'pi syuḥ pāpa-yonayaḥ*. Pāpa-yoni* means to take birth in low class family or demonic family. So *pāpa-yonayaḥ.* Kṛṣṇa says openly, *ye 'pi syuḥ pāpa-yonayaḥ.* Anyone, it doesn't matter, even if he is born in a *pāpa-yoni... Pāpa-yoni* means generally less than the *śūdras.* According to our Vedic system, four classes, *varṇāśrama,* social and spiritual division. The social division is *brāhmaṇa* first, then *kṣatriya,* then *vaiśya,* then *śūdra.* This is social division, and there is a spiritual division: *brahmacārī, gṛhastha, vānaprastha, sannyāsa.* This is compulsory regulation for becoming human being. Without *varṇāśrama* institution there is no recognition of human being. Without being trained up in the *varṇāśrama* system there is no question of becoming human being. So actually it is not by birth as human being but by culture. *Janmanā jāyate śūdraḥ saṁskārād bhaved dvijaḥ.* [*Skanda purāṇa* 18.6.239.31] > Prahlāda Mahārāja, our predecessor *guru*... There are twelve *mahājanas:* Brahmā, Svayambhū, Nārada, Śambhu, Kapila, Kumāra, Manu, Prahlāda, Janaka, Bhīṣma, Bali, Vaiyāsaki, *vayam.* [Yamarāja] *Mahājano yena gataḥ sa panthāḥ*. It is said in the *Vedas* that we have to follow the footprints of *mahājana. Mahājana* means great authorized devotees. And they have been described, twelve. Svayambhū means Lord Brahmā; Nārada, Nārada Muni the great saint; Śambhu, Lord Śiva... *Svayambhūr nāradaḥ śambhuḥ kumāra*, the four Kumāras, *sanat-kumāra ādi.* Then Kapila, Kapiladeva, Devahūti's son. There are two Kapilas. So one is imitation; one is real. The real Kapila, He is known therefore Devahūti-putra, "the son of Devahūti." Devahūti was the daughter of Manu, Vaivasvata Manu. So in this way, *kapilaḥ kumāro manuḥ.* Then Prahlāda Mahārāja. Prahlāda Mahārāja was the son of Hiraṇyakaśipu, the famous demon. --- ## Letters on December 2 *Letters from this day: 27* --- **[1968: Letter to Gaurasundara](letters/1968/681202_gaurasundara)** > We have registered the Hawaii address given by you. If they require more men later on, we shall consider. To send a man is a very expensive job. The principle is that they should recruit men locally. Forty years ago when Bon Maharaja, my Godbrother, came here, he complained of getting some manpower from India. That is not a good policy that for preaching work one has to get men from another country. One has to create manpower from the local environment. That is success of preaching. --- **[1969: Letter to Krsna Dasa](letters/1969/691202_krsna_dasa)** > I have heard from Tamala and Mukunda that there is good chance of preaching our movement in Germany, provided our Sankirtana Party is well organized. --- **[1969: Letter to Madhudvisa](letters/1969/691202_madhudvisa)** > Regarding your scheme for holding a dance for collecting money, that is nice.
