**[1966: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.100–108](spoken/1966/661129cc.ny.md)**
> So Sanātana *prabhu* is, by his personal behavior, he's presenting himself that "People say that I am very learned, but actually I am not learned." This should be the position. *Jijñāsuḥ śreya uttama*. Now, "Because I am not learned, and very kindly You have delivered me from the *māyā* of illusion, kindly now let me know what is my duty." This is the position one should present himself to the spiritual master, not that... We have to first of all select spiritual master. The selection is required. Because as soon as you accept one spiritual master, you cannot say that "I don't agree with you." No. That you cannot say. Then it is useless, simply waste of time.
> Tāpa-traya* means three kinds of material miseries. *Tāpa* means miseries; *traya* means three. So, "What I am, and why I am placed in this miserable condition of material nature?" This is called *jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam.* This enquiry should be in the human form of life. Then his life is perfect. *Ke āmi...* In the *Brahma-sūtra* it is called athāto brahma-jijñāsā, and in *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* it is said, *tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam* : "One who is inquisitive to enquire, to understand about his real position, he should accept a spiritual master." Not a formality.

**[1968: Bhagavad-gītā 2.13–17](spoken/1968/681129bg.la)**
> You cannot argue that you are the same... That will be explained. Kṛṣṇa says in the Thirteenth Chapter that *kṣetra-jñaṁ cāpi māṁ viddhi sarva-kṣetreṣu bhārata*. Kṣetra-jña,* the soul, and..., is within this body. Therefore soul is called *kṣetra-jña. Kṣetra-jña* means "one who knows about this body." I am conscious about my this body; you are conscious about your body. But Kṛṣṇa is conscious of your body and my body and everyone's body. Therefore He's also *kṣetra-jña,* but He's *kṣetra-jña,* He's Supersoul. Just the same example: Just like the sun, during meridian, is on your head. At 5,000 miles, you ask your friend, "Where is the sun?" he'll also say, "It is on my head."
> This is advised by Rūpa Gosvāmī: the six things we have to take particular care, and six things we have to avoid in order to be perfect in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So *utsāhād dhairyān niścayāt* [*Upadeśāmṛta* 3]. The first principle is one must be very enthusiastic. He must believe that Kṛṣṇa has said that *na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati*. "My devotee will never be vanquished." So "Let me become Kṛṣṇa's devotee sincerely. I must become Kṛṣṇa's devotee sincerely." This is called enthusiasm. Then *dhairyāt.* "I have become Kṛṣṇa's devotee, but still I'm not feeling happy. How is that?"

**[1970: Lecture at Podar College at Karman](spoken/1970/701129le.bom)**
> If I am destined it will come. Therefore I should. Save my energy for developing Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That is right conclusion. I should save energy for. Collect all energy that is in my possession for utilization in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So far distress and happiness is concerned whatever it may come, that is all right. Either distress or happiness, don't mind. Bhaja budam tattvavit [?] You understand Sanskrit? B*udam* is [indistinct], let this happen. I am not concerned with that, let it happen. I'm concerned with the develop my Kṛṣṇa consciousness...
> Haṁsadūta: In the *Śrī Īśopaniṣad* [indistinct] says that, "The Personality of Godhead is perfect and complete and everything emanates from Him is also complete in itself. And because He is the Complete Whole He remains the Complete Balance." So does it mean that for a devotee, a pure devotee. Everything that is going on either in this world or in the spiritual world is part of the Personality of Godhead. Is part of His personality. Is that a fact?

**[1971: Lecture Engagement [Intro by the Governor and Mayor] ](spoken/1971/711129le.vrn)**
> No, why *jagan mithyā? Jagat* is also a fact because Kṛṣṇa is the origin of this *jagat, janmādy asya yataḥ* Kṛṣṇa says *ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavaḥ.* So why anything emanating from Kṛṣṇa should be false? It cannot be. So therefore we don't accept this world as false, we accept it as reality but it becomes false when we try to enjoy it. Just like if I take away some other's property and want to enjoy it. That is, the thing is reality but my spirit of enjoyment is false. Therefore Śrīla Rūpa Gosvāmī says,
> This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is, *sarvopādhi-vinirmuktam,* when one becomes freed from all designations he can take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So long one is Hindu, so long one is Muslim, so long one is Christian, there is no question of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Because Kṛṣṇa he says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ* that is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Only Kṛṣṇa really, Kṛṣṇa is my Lord and I am his eternal servant, this consciousness is called Kṛṣṇa consciousness.

**[1971: Parikramā on the Way to Gokula](spoken/1971/711129pk.vrn)**
> Paṇḍā: [Transl. Not in-laws place but Balarama's birth place. People say wrongly. When Lord Kṛṣṇa left Dvāraka and went to Jagadiśapurī, at that time Balarāma appeared here. This is Balarāma's original place. Here both Revatī and Balarāma manifested. In this corner is the Deity of Revatī. She was the daughter of King Raivata of Junagarh [Gujarat]. This is not Balarāma's in-laws place. That is in King Raivata's place. This is His real birthplace.]
> Dr. Kapoor: And then Lord Balarāma told Yaśodā-mātā, "You see inside the mouth of Lord Kṛṣṇa." And when Yaśodā-mātā saw inside the mouth, she found that all the Brahmāṇḍas: universes and, I mean, Brahmā, they were inside the mouth of Lord Kṛṣṇa. Therefore this ghat, this river ghat, is known as Brahmāṇḍa ghat.

**[1972: Bhagavad-gītā 2.25](spoken/1972/721129bg.hyd)**
> Both energies are Kṛṣṇa's. *Apara, para.* This is explained in *Bhagavad-gītā.* So we are now attracted by the *apara* energy. *Bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ*, these material elements. We want. Because we are attracted by the material energy, therefore, when we construct a very nice stone house, oh, we think, "Now, yes, my life is successful. I have got a very nice house, made of stone." Are you stone? No. Still, my attraction is for the stone. Therefore Kṛṣṇa gives me facility: "All right, you take the stone and try to... But you'll never be happy. Happy you'll be when you surrender to Me."
> Aṇḍāntara-stha-paramāṇu-cayāntara-stham* [Bs. 5.35]. And wherever the spirit soul is there within this material world, he has got a body and there is heart, and within that heart Kṛṣṇa is also there. *Īśvaraḥ sarva-bhūtānāṁ hṛd-deśe arjuna tiṣṭhati*. Both of them living there. Therefore, *aṇor aṇīyān mahato mahīyān:* Kṛṣṇa can become greater than the greatest and the smaller than the smallest. This is God.
---
**[1972: Rotary Club Lecture Bhagavad-gītā 3.21](spoken/1972/721129le.hyd)**
> So our ultimate goal of life is to become in our original purpose, servant of God. That is our perfection of life. That is called *mukti.* In the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* it is said that *muktir hitvā anyathā rūpaṁ svarūpeṇa vyavasthitiḥ*. Mukti* means when we give up our artificial way of life. The artificial way of life is that we are trying to become master. That is artificial. We are not master. Constitutionally we are servant. But that servitude is interlinked in the service of the Supreme Lord.
> Tathā dehāntaraṁ-prāptir.* Just like we have got different types of body in this life. I was a child, I was a boy, I was a young man, I..., I was a something else. Now I have got this old body. So as I am existing after changing so many different phases of body, therefore the conclusion should be that after annihilation of this body, I shall exist, and, which is confirmed in the *Bhagavad-gītā*: *na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. Nityaḥ śāśvato 'yaṁ na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre.*
---
**[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.15.1](spoken/1973/731129sb.ny)**
> We living entities, we are trying to become happy within this material world. Why you are in the material world? Why not in the spiritual world? The spiritual world, nobody can become the enjoyer, *bhokta.* That is only Supreme, *bhoktāraṁ yajña-tapasāṁ sarva... . There is no mistake. There are also living entities, but they know perfectly well that real enjoyer, proprietor, is Kṛṣṇa. That is spiritual kingdom. Similarly, even in this material world, if we understand perfectly well that we are not enjoyer, Kṛṣṇa is enjoyer, then that is spiritual world. This Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is trying to convince everyone that we, we are not enjoyer; enjoyer is Kṛṣṇa. Just like this whole body, the enjoyer is the stomach, and the hands and legs and eyes and ears and brains and everything, these should be engaged to find out the enjoyable things and put it in the stomach. This is natural. Similarly, we are part and parcel of God, or Kṛṣṇa. We are not enjoyer.
> Teṣāṁ nidhanam,* everyone will be destroyed. Nobody will be able to give us protection. If real protection is wanted, he will have to take protection of Kṛṣṇa. That is the instruction of *Bhagavad-gītā: sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. "You rascal, you are thinking that so many things will give you protection. That will not be possible. You will be finished, and your so-called protector and friends and soldiers, they will be finished. You don't depend on them." *Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇam...,* "You just surrender unto Me. I'll give you protection." *Ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ.* This is real protection.

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.25.29](spoken/1974/741129sb.bom)**
> That means after self-realization, when he understands that he is not this body... In the bodily conception of life I am thinking, "I belong to this family," "I belong to this society," "I belong to the country," and so many. *Ahaṁ mameti*. Janasya moho 'yam,* this illusion is going on. And *brahma-bhūtaḥ* means one who is above this illusion. He has no more such distinction that "I am this body. I am belong to this family, I belong to this country or community." No. "I belong to Kṛṣṇa." Kṛṣṇa says *jīv..., mamaivāṁśa.* Kṛṣṇa says. And *brahma-bhūtaḥ* stage means I have realized that I am part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa, and my only business is to serve Kṛṣṇa. That is Brahman realization. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *yatatām api siddhānāṁ kaścin vetti māṁ tattvataḥ. Tattvataḥ* means one has to understand in truth what is Kṛṣṇa and what is my relationship with Kṛṣṇa. Simply *siddha* is not perfection. *Siddha* means "I am not this body." That is all right; that is perfection. But you have to make further progress. *Brahma-bhūtaḥ,* you have become now self-realized, that's all right. *Na śocati na..., samaḥ sarveṣu.* But you have to enter into the *parā-bhakti.* Then your self-realization will stand. Otherwise again you will fall down. *Āruhya kṛcchreṇa paraṁ padaṁ tataḥ patanty adhaḥ anādṛta-yuṣmad-aṅghrayaḥ*.
> Kṛṣṇa-bhajana* is not so easy. But if you voluntarily, if after hearing so many qualities of Kṛṣṇa, transcendental qualities, if you somehow or other become attracted to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, then your life is successful. *Yena tena prakāreṇa manaḥ kṛṣṇe prayojayet* [*Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu* 1.2.4]. Somehow or other you attach your mind to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. *Sarve vidhi-niṣedhāḥ syur etayor eva kiṅkarāḥ.* Then Kṛṣṇa will help you. Kṛṣṇa will help you. Kṛṣṇa will give you intelligence from within. *Teṣāṁ satata-yuktānāṁ bhajatāṁ prīti-pūrvakam*. Kṛṣṇa says that "Anyone who is engaged in My devotional service with love and faith, *buddhi-yogaṁ dadāmi tam.*" This is *buddhi-yoga. Buddhi-yoga* means *bhakti-yoga. Buddhi-yoga* means... *Bhakti-yoga* is not for the foolish person. *Bhakti-yoga* means *buddhi-yoga,* one who is highly intelligent. Or somehow or other he has become intelligent, that "I shall take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness." Then his life is perfect immediately, and gradually he will realize Kṛṣṇa, *tattvataḥ. Bhaktyā mām abhijānāti yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ*. You somehow or other take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness, engage yourself in devotional service under the direction of *śāstra* and the spiritual master, then you will understand Kṛṣṇa, and then your life is perfect.

**[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751129mw.del)**
> They have been... Simply external. They are giving importance to the music, but the person who is playing the music, he has no information. He is thinking this tongue is vibrating music. Such a rascal. If the tongue is vibrating music, then why, he is dead, why the tongue does not play music anymore? And the ear is there. Why he does not hear any more music? If this body is all, then the body is there, the tongue is there, the ear is there—why there is no response of the music? *Apaśyatām ātma-tattvam.* And these rascals, they do not know who is the person who is singing and who is hearing. Therefore they have been called as *mūḍhās.* Who is singing, who is hearing, he does not know. *Apaśyatām ātma-tattvaṁ gṛheṣu gṛhamedhīnam.*
>*kalākendra.* So many *kalākendras. Kalā* means cheating, *kalā.* In Bengal, when it is called *kalā, kalā dekhiye diyechi,* means cheating... [Transl. You know Bengali.] I think in other countries also somewhere, they do so, that "I cannot do anything." Eh? In your country do they not like showing this thumb?
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.6.7](spoken/1976/761129sb.vrn)**
> Spiritual education means, beginning is, to understand that "I am not this body." *Ahaṁ brahmāsmi:* "I am beyond this body." But in the case of Kṛṣṇa or His different expansion, plenary expansion, there is no such difference, *deha dehī. Prākṛta kariya mane viṣṇu-kalevara *[*Cc Ādi* 7.115]. *Apārādha nāhi āra iṅhāra upara.* Caitanya Mahāprabhu has said, "Any rascal"—of course, "rascal" He did not say; I say—that "Anyone who considers the body of Kṛṣṇa is *prākṛta*"*—prākṛta* means material—"that is the greatest offense." The Māyāvādīs, they say so. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *māyāvādī haya kṛṣṇe aparādhī.* They think that when... "God is impersonal, but when He becomes a person, He accepts the material body." That is wrong. Here it is said that *mukta-liṅgasya bhagavata ṛṣabhasya.* It is no difference. Even a big scholar, while writing comments on *Bhagavad-gītā,* when Kṛṣṇa says, *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*, he warns the reader, "It is not to the person. The soul or the spirit within the person." Means he is thinking Kṛṣṇa as ordinary person. And he's a big scholar. This is going on.
> So Māyāvādīs are attractive. They are very educated. They can put things in jugglery of words. That capacity they have got. So people become amazed, almost everyone. So therefore they are not very much pleased with this Movement, that "Kṛṣṇa is God." We are preaching, and all full of Māyāvādīs, they are thinking, "What this nonsense is doing? Kṛṣṇa..." They think Kṛṣṇa is *māyā. Viṣṇu-kalevara māyā.* Kṛṣṇa says, *mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya*. *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā manuṣīṁ tanum āśritaḥ*. Ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate*.
