# November 19 ## Spoken on November 19 *Lectures from this day: 6 recordings* --- **[1970: At the house of Dr. Chamanlal Bali and Vijayantimala](spoken/1970/701119le.bom)** > So we have created so many *dharmas*, Hindu *dharma*, Moslem *dharma*, Christian *dharma*, Buddha *dharma*, Jain *dharma*, so many. Hundreds and thousands of *dharma*. But Kṛṣṇa says that, "*sarva-dharmān parityajya*." Now in the beginning He said that, "*dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya*—in order to establish the principles of *dharma*, religion I appear." And at the end He says, "*sarva-dharmān parityajya*." Therefore the conclusion is that—*mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. Only surrendering unto the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa is *dharma*, everything is not *dharma*. All other *dharma* which does not teach either you call Kṛṣṇa or God any *dharma* which does not teach you surrendering unto the Supreme Lord that is not *dharma*. Therefore in the *Śrīmad Bhāgavatam* you'll find in the beginning, *dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo 'tra*. > In the *Śrīmad Bhāgavatam*—*kaitavaḥ dharma*—cheating religion is completely thrown away. So we have created so many *dharmas*, of course it takes very long time to explain each and every item but try to understand the principle. What is the *dharma*? The *dharma* is this Kṛṣṇa consciousness. That Kṛṣṇa says, "*mām ekaṁ*—only unto Me." He does not say that whatever you do that is all right. No. He says, "*mām ekaṁ*—only unto Me." Only to become Kṛṣṇa conscious that is *dharma*. And anything beyond this—that is not *dharma*. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya*. So our propaganda is you don't remain a Christian or don't remain a Hindu or don't remain a Moslem. You become Kṛṣṇite. Or lover of God then your life is perfect. --- **[1971: Paṇḍāl Lecture](spoken/1971/711119le.del)** > Because Kṛṣṇa says that even if you cannot execute the *bhāgavata-dharma* fully in one life... Because we are not guaranteed. Guaranteed, of course, if we follow strictly as Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* that *janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. If you simply try to understand Kṛṣṇa—how He appears, how He takes birth, how He disappears, why does He come, what are His activities—if you simply study these Kṛṣṇa activities, then the result is *tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti*. Simply by understanding Kṛṣṇa. This is *bhāgavata-dharma*. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu, being compassionate to the all fallen conditions of this age, He said that, > So Kṛṣṇa says... This is *kṛṣṇa-upadeśa*. He has given *upadeśa* in the *Bhagavad-gītā* in many ways—*karma-yoga, jñāna-yoga, dhyāna-yoga*. But His special instruction is, the most confidential instruction is, He said to Arjuna, "Because you are My friend, therefore I am giving you this most confidential instruction." What is that? *Man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*. --- **[1972: Bhagavad-gītā 2.13](spoken/1972/721119bg.hyd)** > Therefore *śāstra* says, *yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke*. Anyone who is identifying himself with this body, which is made of *tri-dhātu... Tri-dhātu* means *kapha-pitta-vāyu.* According to *Āyur Veda* system, this body is a combination of *kapha-pitta-vāyu,* mucus, bile and air. > He's no better than the cats and dogs. *Yasyātma-buddhiḥ kuṇape tri-dhātuke sva-dhīḥ kalatrādiṣu bhauma ijya-dhīḥ*. The whole world is going on on this misimpression, misidentification with the body. Therefore there is fight between one nation to another, one man to another, and so many. --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 3.25.19](spoken/1974/741119sb.bom)** > So that light is given by *guru. Ajñāna-timirāndhasya jñānāñjana-śalākayā* [*Gautamīya-tantra*]. That light is given not by bringing one torchlight, but *jñānāñjana-śalākayā,* the light of knowledge. The light of... *Jñānāñjana-śalākayā. Cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ. Guru's* business is to give you light by knowledge. Then you understand. *Tasmād guruṁ prapadyeta jijñāsuḥ śreya uttamam*. How the *jñāna,* knowledge, light is given? *Śābde pare ca niṣṇātaṁ brahmaṇy upaśamāśrayam.* This is the *guru's* system, *guru's* symptom, what is *guru. Śābde pare ca niṣṇātam.* He has completely assimilated the Vedic essence of life. That is called *guru.* And what is *śabda*? *Śāstra,* or *Vedas. Śruti-śāstra. Śruti* means *Veda,* knowledge. *Veda* means knowledge. Or knowledge is received through ear, by hearing. That is real knowledge. Not by experimental knowledge. You cannot understand which is beyond your sense perception by experiment. Just like you cannot understand who is your father by experimental knowledge: "Let me make experiment and find out who is my father." That is not possible. Because it is beyond your experience. Your father was existing when you were not existing. Then how you can understand by experimental knowledge? The authority is mother. Therefore Vedic knowledge is the mother; the *Purāṇas* are the sisters. They are explained like that. You should understand from the *Vedas* what is the ultimate knowledge. And Kṛṣṇa says, *vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ* : the ultimate knowable objective is Kṛṣṇa. > If you actually come in contact with Kṛṣṇa, and Kṛṣṇa is within your heart... Kṛṣṇa is not far away. Kṛṣṇa is everywhere. But He's still nearer. He is within your heart. *Īśvaraḥ sarva...* So if you become attached to Kṛṣṇa... When Kṛṣṇa sees now you are attached to Kṛṣṇa, then *hṛdy antaḥ-stho abhadrāṇi vidhunoti suhṛt satām*. He is friend of the devotees. He's friend of everyone, but a special friend of the devotees. *Suhṛt satām.* Therefore you have to become a devotee. Therefore it is said, *na yujyamānayā bhaktyā. Bhaktyā* means devotee. Who performs devotional service unless he's a devotee? Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, bhaktyā mām abhijānāti*. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751119mw.bom)** >*abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā mano-rathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ* [*SB* 5.18.12]. Manorat*hena*,* mental concoction, *asataḥ.* Western philosophers, they take the mind as the soul. --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.5.32](spoken/1976/761119sb.vrn)** > So this is not our life. Our life is to regain our spiritual consciousness, revive our spiritual existence. And for this purpose we must endeavor. *Tasyaiva hetoḥ prayateta kovidaḥ. Kovidaḥ* means one who is intelligent. Otherwise, those who are not intelligent, they think that "I have got this life. I shall enjoy sense gratification," and "There is no life after death." Kṛṣṇa says, *tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ*, but these rascals will say, "No, there is no life." So therefore Kṛṣṇa has said, "*Mūḍhas,* rascals, they do not accept what I am speaking in this *Bhagavad-gītā.*" *Na māṁ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamaḥ*. > So there is no anxiety for maintenance of the body. There is no anxiety. *Śāstra* therefore says that "Don't spoil your energy for the matter of maintenance of the body. That is already settled up." *Eko yo bahūnāṁ vidadhāti kāmān.* That is the Vedic injunction. *Nityo nityānāṁ, nityānāṁ cetanaś cetanānām eko yo bahūnāṁ vidadhāti kāmān* [*Kaṭha Upaniṣad* 2.2.13]. The Supreme Lord is *nitya* as we are *nitya. Nitya* means there is no birth and death. *Na jāyate na mriyate vā, nityaḥ śāśvato 'yam, na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. --- ## Letters on November 19 *Letters from this day: 11* --- **[1965: Letter to Sally](letters/1947-1965/651119_sally)** > I am still more glad to learn that you are going to observe the third birthday of Miss Kamala Agarwal on Saturday next. --- **[1968: Letter to Dinesh Krsna Devi](letters/1968/681119_dinesh_krsna_devi)** > Regarding Kallman: The contract is in New York, there in a file, but this Mr. He printed 10,000 copies of the record, but he did not pay a single cent. --- **[1968: Letter to Rayarama](letters/1968/681119_rayarama)** > Regarding your prediction of cataclysmic earthquakes in this side of your country, your fear of my life is certainly natural.
