**Pradyumna:** [reading] "...sometimes divided into four parts, just as the ocean is sometimes divided into four parts, and there are different sections within each of these four divisions. Originally in *Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu,* the ocean is divided like the watery ocean, into east, west, north and south, while the sub-sections within these different divisions are called waves. As in the ocean, there are always different waves, either on the eastern side, the western side, the northern side or the southern side, so similarly, *Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu* has different waves.
"In the first part there are four waves, the first being a general description of devotional service. The second concerns the regulative principles for executing devotional service, and the third wave is devotional service in ecstasy. In the fourth is the ultimate goal, love of God. These will be explicitly described, along with their different symptoms.
**Prabhupāda:** Caitanya Mahāprabhu compared *bhakti* as the..., a great ocean. So when He was speaking before Rūpa Gosvāmī, He said that "It is just like a ocean. So I'll take a drop of it, and you taste it, and you'll understand what is this ocean." Just like by tasting one drop of seawater we can understand the taste of the whole ocean, similarly, Caitanya Mahāprabhu described a small portion of *Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu. Bhakti-rasa-amṛta. Bhakti,* devotional service, there is a *rasa,* taste, and the taste is *amṛta,* eternal.

*śṛṇvatām*—those who have developed the urge to hear the message of; *sva-kathāḥ*—His own words; *kṛṣṇaḥ*—the Personality of Godhead; *puṇya*—virtues; *śravaṇa*—hearing; *kīrtanaḥ*—chanting; *hṛdi antaḥ sthaḥ*—within one's heart; *hi*—certainly; *abhadrāṇi*—desire to enjoy matter; *vidhunoti*—cleanses; *suhṛt*—benefactor; *satām*—of the truthful.
**Translation:** "Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the Personality of Godhead, who is the Paramātmā, or Supersoul, in everyone's heart and the benefactor of the truthful devotee, cleanses desire for material enjoyment from the heart of the devotee who relishes His messages, which are in themselves virtuous when properly heard and chanted."

**Pradyumna:** "The Blessed Lord said: There is a banyan tree which has its roots upward and its branches down and whose leaves are the Vedic hymns. One who knows this tree is the knower of the Vedas."* [[bg/15/1|[Bg. 15.1] ]]
**Prabhupāda:** So this is the description of Vedic literature. *Vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ* [[bg/15/15|[Bg. 15.15] ]]. That will be described. *Veda* means knowledge. *Vetti veda vida jñāne. Vid-dhātu.* From *vid-dhātu,* the word *Veda* has come. *Vid* means knowledge. There are different kinds of knowledge, and all kinds of knowledge you can get perfectly from the *Vedas.* There is *Dhanur-veda, Āyur-veda, Ṛg-veda, Sāma-veda,* different branches of *Veda,* but the objective of studying *Vedas* means to understand Kṛṣṇa. *Vedaiś ca sarvaiḥ.* All kinds of *Vedas.* Any book of knowledge. There are different types of book of knowledge. So if by studying the books of different types of knowledge one comes to the understanding of knowing the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa, then his knowledge is perfect.
Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante* [[bg/7/19|[Bg. 7.19] ]]. After studying *Vedas,* speculative knowledge, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān,* when one is actually a wise man, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate,* he surrenders to Kṛṣṇa. Why? *Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti* [[bg/7/19|[Bg. 7.19] ]]. Because Kṛṣṇa is everything. *Parasya brahmaṇaḥ śaktiḥ.* Whatever we see, whatever we experience, that is, everything, Kṛṣṇa's energy. This material world is also expansion of Kṛṣṇa's energy. Similarly, the spiritual world is also expansion of Kṛṣṇa's energy. The *brahma-jyoti* is also expansion of Kṛṣṇa's energy. Paramātmā is also expansion of Kṛṣṇa's plenary portion. In this way, when one understands perfectly well that whatever we are experiencing, that is Kṛṣṇa's energies...

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
[Prabhup**ā**da interrupts chanting of verse to correct pronunciation: "There is no *ya.* It is *rūḍhaṁ.* You explain[?], it is also *rūḍhaṁ.* No '*ya.*' "]

**[[spoken/751028bg.nai|Bg 7.2 — October 28, 1975, Nairobi]]**
**Prabhupāda:** > jñānaṁ te 'haṁ sa-vijñānam > idaṁ vakṣyāmy aśeṣataḥ > yaj jñātvā neha bhūyo 'nyaj > jñātavyam avaśiṣyate > [[bg/7/2|[Bg. 7.2] ]]
*Jñānam,* knowledge. Kṛṣṇa says to Arjuna that "I am giving you perfect knowledge." This is our process. We receive knowledge from the perfect person. There is no use getting knowledge from imperfect person. That is useless waste of time. And who is perfect person? Who does not commit any mistake, who is never illusioned, whose senses are not imperfect and who is not a cheater. These are the qualification.
These are the symptoms of perfect person. First thing is he does not commit mistake. Throughout the whole world you study big, big men, they committed mistake. Hitler committed mistake. Gandhi committed mistake. Churchill committed mistake. Because "To err is human." However big you may be, you cannot avoid mistake, because you are not liberated.

**Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa:** ...slaughterhouse or no slaughterhouse. They take anything as being good, the governments.
**Brahmānanda:** Usually their philosophy is that anyone has the liberty to do whatever he likes, as long as it doesn't hurt another, as long as it doesn't infringe on another's liberty.
**Prabhupāda:** Then how you are killing the animals? [break] ...eat meat, therefore you are killing poor animals. Why you are interfering others' life? [break] ...the best park here. [break] Here there is no such park.

**Translation:** "When the living entity is covered by the mode of ignorance, he does not understand the individual living being and the supreme living being, and his mind is subjugated to fruitive activity. Therefore, until one has love for Lord Vāsudeva, who is none other than Myself, he is certainly not delivered from having to accept a material body again and again." [break]
**Prabhupāda:** > evaṁ manaḥ karma-vaśaṁ prayuṅkte > avidyayātmany upadhīyamāne > prītir na yāvan mayi vāsudeve > na mucyate deha-yogena tāvat > [[sb/5/5/6|[SB. 5.5.6] ]]

**[[spoken/771028r1.vrn|Room Conversation — October 28, 1977, Vṛndāvana]]**
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** Well, I mean, er, we already said some juices, vegetable juice. You said you have no objection to broth, vegetable broth. So he's proposing some vegetable broth. That's nice. We can try. And... You see, you have to understand, one thing is that Prabhupāda willingly takes fruit juices. You've never experienced a patient like Prabhupāda, who will not take what you prescribe. Everybody that you've worked with, they take whatever you tell them to take. But Śrīla Prabhupāda is not that kind of patient. You tell him to take... You'll make a broth for six hours, and he'll take one spoon and then reject it. And then that's finished. So the point is that if he willingly takes some type of a fruit juice, for example—and we've seen, for example, how he willingly will take grape juice in big quantities. He may not take the thing which you prescribe in big quantities. Better that he takes some liquid than nothing at all.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** So the proposal that he continues to take some fruit juice has certain merit, because at least we've seen that that's one thing that he will take in large quantities. If nothing else... Every single *kavirāja* and doctor we've consulted, they all insist that one of the most important things is that there be sufficient liquid taken so that the body can be cleansed properly. So although you may be right that by taking one thing in particular and not taking fruit juice may be preferable, if he can't take it, then there's no use in that point.
**Mādhava:** That's true. If Śrīla Prabhupāda would take nothing but fruit juice, it is much better that he have the fruit juice.

**Svarūpa Dāmodara:** ...with the press from the *Indian Express* and other newspapers. And also I went to the television and the All-India Radio for the engagement. And also I wanted to discuss with some of my members the immediate plan that we have. So I sent one to Bombay to organize a conference. So I'll try to cover this area very quickly—Agra, Delhi and Punjab. I'm meeting a lot of scientists. And also I collected several copies of the newspaper, *The Statesman.* I went to the *Statesman* building, collected the newspaper, that coverage. How are you feeling, Śrīla Prabhupāda?
**Svarūpa Dāmodara:** I could have gone to the airport. Maybe they are coming tomorrow on the train, Taj Express?
**Svarūpa Dāmodara:** No, no. From Delhi. I thought that maybe he didn't know that, Adri...? If it starts from Calcutta at twelve o'clock, it should be arriving at Delhi about two o'clock.
