> Yukta-vairāgyam ucyate. Anāsaktasya viṣayān yathārham upayuñjate*. Just like we are using this microphone. This is material, scientific advancement. Sometimes they criticize that "You are not materialistic. Why you are using the modern appliances? Why you are flying on the aeroplane?" So practically, our vision is that everything is Kṛṣṇa's and everything must be utilized for Kṛṣṇa's service. That is, that is our philosophy. Actually, it is so. This microphone is manufactured by Kṛṣṇa's energy. *Bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ mano buddhir eva ca, prakṛti bhinnā me aṣṭadhā*. So this metal portion, or the rubber portion, or any portion of this microphone is made of the five elements earth, water, fire, air. So Kṛṣṇa says, "They are My separated energy."
> So this increase of our loving propensity will not be satisfied unless it reaches the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. We love. The loving propensity is there. Even we have no family, sometimes we keep pets, cats and dogs, to love. So we are, by nature we used to love somebody else. So that somebody else is Kṛṣṇa. Actually, we want to love Kṛṣṇa, but without information of Kṛṣṇa, without Kṛṣṇa consciousness, our loving propensity is limited, within certain circle. Therefore we are not satisfied. *Nitya-siddha kṛṣṇa-bhakti*. That love affair, loving propensity, is eternally existing, to love Kṛṣṇa. Just like Dhruva Mahārāja, when he met the Supreme Personality of Godhead, he became fully satisfied. *Svāmin kṛtārtho 'smi varaṁ na yāce*.

**[1972: Room Conversation](spoken/1972/721024r1.vrn)**
> That, the [indistinct], that I am staying here for the last ten or twelve years and paying, but the property belongs to the Deity. And there are several sevaites. Sometimes somebody starts noting that you neglect; sometimes somebody takes money in other. So what is my position? [indistinct] the renter may decide what is my position. Actually, in terms of the renter, I am tenant for these two rooms, and that also. [indistinct]
> Now, supposing you have got three, then how you to manage? Simply taking over is no good. Because they are giving, means they cannot manage. That property is very valuable property, Bharatpur place. So they are thinking of giving it over to us because it is not being managed. Their position is here. So up to now we are strong. But if our, what is called, cooperation becomes slack, then our temple also the same thing will be.

**[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.13](spoken/1972/721024sb.vrn)**
> So Kṛṣṇa comes. Kṛṣṇa, when He says, *dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge,* this is real *dharma. Dharma* means *dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītam*. Dharma* means the..., what is enjoined by the Lord, God. What God says, that is *dharma.* God says, "Do this." That is *dharma.* Not that you manufacture your *dharma.* God says, Kṛṣṇa says, *man-manā bhava mad-bhakto mad-yājī māṁ namaskuru*. Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇam...*.
> So the process is this, actually. If you can satisfy Kṛṣṇa, if Kṛṣṇa says, "All right," then every..., everything is all right. *Bās.* This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. Somehow or other, you satisfy Kṛṣṇa. *Saṁsiddhir hari-toṣaṇam*. Then you have all perfection. Very simple method. You try to satisfy Kṛṣṇa, and your everything satisfied. Every, everything is perfect. Kṛṣṇa also says that. It is not very difficult to satisfy Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is so kind, He says, *patraṁ puṣpaṁ phalaṁ toyaṁ yo me bhaktyā prayacchati*.*

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.44](spoken/1974/741024sb.may)**
> So therefore the struggle begins from the womb. And when the child comes out, again struggle. He is lying on the bed; some bug is biting. He cannot express. He is crying, and the mother thinks that he's hungry. In this way, wrongly understands, cannot give relief him. And he is going on crying, crying, crying. We have seen it. We have... Everyone has got experience. Then as soon as he is grown up, he is given responsibility for learning A-B-C-D, or going to school. He doesn't like. No child likes. At least, I did not like to go to school. So this is also another struggle. Then, when he is grown up, he is given more and more responsibility, examination, and then married life, then family maintenance. In this way struggling, struggling, struggling—again death; again enter into the womb of mother. Again the same struggle. So where is happiness? Therefore when Kṛṣṇa says, *duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam , "This whole material world is a place for suffering only," that is a fact.
> So Kuntī has all along... Very selected words she used. That we should learn. That is the injunction of the *śāstras, uttama-śloka.* Therefore Kṛṣṇa's another name is *bhagavaty uttama-śloke bhaktir bhavati naiṣṭhikī*. The best words. Actually, if you love somebody, out of love you cannot use anything, means any word, which is not very much appreciated. So... And they are all applicable. It is not like the logic, *kāṇa-chelera nāma padma-locana[?]:* one man has got a child who is blind, but he has given the name Padma-locana, "lotus-eyed." Not like that. The selected words which Kuntī has used, it is not improper. They are properly used. Just like here is one word used, Vaikuṇṭha. Kṛṣṇa's another name is Vaikuṇṭha, or God's another name is Vaikuṇṭha. Vaikuṇṭha means *vigata-kuṇṭha hy asmāt.* Therefore spiritual world is called Vaikuṇṭha. And the material world is *duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam*.

**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.5.2](spoken/1976/761024sb.vrn)**
> The whole yogic process means how to become free from sexual desire. *Indriya saṁyama. Yogam indriya-saṁyamaḥ.* The *yoga* practice... Formerly, everyone was practicing this *yoga, aṣṭāṅga-yoga, dhyāna, dhāraṇā, asana, praṇāyāma,* just to become very stout and strong in the matter of sense gratification. Sense gratification is not at all good without any restriction. That is *tapasya—tapasā brahmacaryeṇa.* And the first-class *tapasya* is to cease from sex life, either man or woman. Then *tapasya* begins. So the real purpose is *tapo divyaṁ yena śuddhyed sattva*, to purify our existence. Therefore *tapasya* we have explained already. Now how this *tapasya* can be practiced? *Tapasyā* can be practiced in the association of *mahat, mahat-sevā. Mahat-sevāṁ dvāram āhur vimuktes.* People do not know what is *vimukti.* They do not know it. The first instruction of *Bhagavad-gītā* is suggesting that "You are not this body. You are within this body." And *vimukti* means not to accept any more this material body. That is *vimukti.* And *Bhāgavata* says, *mukti* definition: *mukti hitvānyathā rūpaṁ sva-rūpeṇa avasthitiḥ*.
> So we have to approach. So *mahat-sevā.* This is *sevā.* Do not approach the *mahātmā* for challenging. That is not... Then you will be cheated. If you want to be... Just like one great, learned scholar, so-called scholar, he came to Vṛndāvana and he saw Rūpa Gosvāmī. So Rūpa Gosvāmī, he said, "Sir, I have come to you." "Now, what is the purpose?" "Now, I have traveled all over India, and I had a *śāstra carcā*, and I have become victorious. They have accepted me. So I have come to you to discuss on Vedic knowledge." So then Rūpa Gosvāmī inquired from him, "Actually what do you want?" Now, "I want also that you acknowledge me that I'm a great scholar. That I want." "All right. I acknowledge you, you are a great scholar." "No, then you give me in writing." So Rūpa Gosvāmī gave him in writing, "I met this man; he's a great scholar, and I am defeated." He gave in writing. Of course, Jīva Gosvāmī took that paper very tactfully and defeated him. So this is not the method of meeting Rūpa Gosvāmī. One should go very humbly, *mahat-sevām.* Rūpa Gosvāmī is *mahat.* You should not go there to challenge. Then you'll be cheated. You must go to Rūpa Gosvāmī and his representative with a humble... *Tad viddhi praṇipātena*.

**[1977: Room Conversation](spoken/1977/771024r1.vrn)**
> Just like this morning, it's getting cold in the morning, and we felt that, for example, during this..., in this summer, during the rainy season it rained very much—more than usual. So the climate is not completely predictable in this Kali-yuga. So it's getting very cold in the mornings. Now, if suddenly it gets much colder, to travel on the train would be very difficult, because these trains are hard. You can't keep them warm. They don't have heat in them. So we don't feel it's very safe to wait unduly. Our opinion was that so far as your health or strength goes, it's not going to increase significantly in one or two weeks. Even when you take this *makara-dhvaja,* it will take time to gradually get back your strength. So waiting is not so much for the purpose of gaining back strength. And the weather is..., the climate is working against us, because it's getting colder if we wait. One of the main reasons to go that Your Divine Grace had was to get into a nice climate, fresh air, open-air atmosphere. So our feeling is that as far as a *kavirāja* goes, now we must find a Rāmānuja *kavirāja*. Now, if we cannot find one in Calcutta, then our feeling is let us find one somewhere else and bring him to Māyāpur. In other words, it doesn't have to be that he's living in Calcutta. *Kavirājas* are all over India. There is one... Who is that person, Bhavānanda?
