So Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement means to approach the original Supreme Personality of Godhead, Kṛṣṇa. This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Directly. This is a special gift of Lord Caitanya, that... In this age there are so many anomalies, defects in the life of human being that gradually they are giving up the idea of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, or God consciousness. Not only gradually they are giving up, they have already given up.
So *Vedānta-sūtra* therefore says, **athāto brahma-jijñāsā. It is not that a different type of religious system we are introducing. It is a great necessity of the present day. Because we say that either you follow scripture, Bible, or you follow Koran or you follow *Vedas,* the aim is God. But at the present moment, due to the influence of this Kali-yuga... Kali-yuga means the age of quarrel and disagreement. So in this age people are embarrassed in so many ways.
First disqualification is that they do not live for long time. The average duration of life in India is thirty-five years, and I do not know exactly what is the average age here, but in India the people are overcrowded. They have no such intelligence, or they did not care to go outside India, colonize. Everyone went there to exploit, but they never thought of exploiting other places. That is their cultural...

**Pradyumna:** [reading] "...particular type of body as a result of his action in the present body. These activities are taken into account by superior authority known as *daiva,* or the authority of God. This *daiva* is explained in the *Bhagavad-gītā* as the prime cause of everything, and in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* it is stated that a man takes his next body by *daiva-netreṇa,* which means by the supervision of the authority of the Supreme. In an ordinary sense, *daiva* is explained as destiny. *Daiva* supervision gives us a body selected from 8,400,000 forms. The choice does not depend on our selection, but is awarded to us according to our destiny."
**Prabhupāda:** Hmm. So material *rasas.* That is being experienced in different types of body. Just like somebody wants to taste fresh blood, flesh and blood. So he's given the next life a body like a tiger, like a other carnivorous animal, and he tastes very nicely blood and flesh. Nature gives all the facilities.

**Prabhupāda: Next. Pradyumna:** [leads chanting of synonyms] [break] **...not; *arthaḥ*—end; *arthāya*—for material gain; *upakalpate*—is meant for; *na*—neither; *arthasya*—of material gain; *dharma-eka-antasya*—for one who is engaged in the ultimate occupational service; *kāmaḥ*—sense gratification; *lābhāya*—attainment of; *hi*—exactly; *smṛtaḥ*—is described by the great sages.
**Translation:** "All occupational engagements, or dharmas, are certainly meant for ultimate liberation. They should never be performed for material gain. Furthermore, one who is engaged in the ultimate occupational service, or dharma, should never use material gain to cultivate sense gratification."

**Prabhupāda:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *[devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]** > puruṣaḥ prakṛti-stho hi > bhuṅkte prakṛti-jān guṇān > kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya > sad-asad-yoni-janmasu > [[bg/13/22|[Bg. 13.22] ]]
*puruṣaḥ—*the living entities; *prakṛti-sthaḥ—*being situated in the material world; *hi—*certainly; *bhuṅkte—*enjoys; *prakṛti-jān*—produced by the material nature; *guṇān*—modes of material nature; *kāraṇam*—cause; *guṇa-saṅgaḥ*—association with the modes of nature; *asya*—of the living entity; *sat-asat*—good and bad; *yoni*—species of life; *janmasu—*birth.
"The living entity in material nature thus follows the ways of life, enjoying the three modes of nature. This is due to his association with that material nature. Thus he meets with good and evil amongst various species of life."

**Pradyumna:Translation:** "All these cities and villages are flourishing in all respects because the herbs and grains are in abundance, the trees are full of fruits, the rivers are flowing, the hills are full of minerals and the oceans full of wealth. And this is all due to Your glancing over them."
**Prabhupāda:** > ime jana-padāḥ svṛddhāḥ > supakvauṣadhi-vīrudhaḥ... > supakvauṣadhi-vīrudhaḥ > vanādri-nady-udanvanto > hy edhante tava vīkṣitaiḥ > [[sb/1/8/40|[SB. 1.8.40] ]]
So here is very nice description how we can materially become happy. These are all description of material happiness: *svṛddhāḥ,* very flourished cities and towns. So how it is flourished? Now, *supakvauṣadhi-vīrudhaḥ.* The herbs and plants and trees and creepers, they are all luxuriously grown and sufficiently supply the needs of the human being. Every plant and creeper is useful for human being. We do not know how to use them. Experienced men, they collect so many *auṣadhi. Vanauṣadhi, latā loke jāyate paramaṁ hitam.* We are neglecting these herbs and vegetables, but because we do not know how to use them, we have to meet so much bill of the doctors. But there are everything complete.

**Puṣṭa Kṛṣṇa:** ...behind the frozen body was that if someone had an incurable disease, they thought that they could suspend the life by freezing it, and then, when they found the cure for the disease, they would unfreeze him, or thaw him out, and cure him of his disease so that he could live again.
**Prabhupāda:** Experimental science is condemned. What you will make, ex... You are imperfect. What is the value of your experiment? Therefore it is rejected. Whatever you'll do, that is imperfect. First of all you become perfect; then you make experiment. But you are... You remain imperfect, and you making experiment, what is the value of it?
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. The sun rises on the eastern side; that is established truth. You cannot change it. And that is *vijñāna.* Man dies. This is established truth. You cannot make any change by experimental knowledge. This is *vijñāna. Nṛpa nirnita:* "It is already settled."* [[sb/2/1/11|[SB. 2.1.11] ]] In the Vedic knowledge there is no such thing as laboratory or experiment, discovery—nothing.

**Prabhupāda:** > śrī-ṛṣabha uvāca > nāyaṁ deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke > kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye > tapo divyaṁ putrakā yena sattvaṁ > śuddhyed yasmād brahma-saukhyaṁ tv anantam > [[sb/5/5/1|[SB. 5.5.1] ]]
This is a verse, verse number one, Fifth Canto, Fifth Chapter, of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.* We are publishing *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* twelve cantos in sixty volumes, and this is the latest volume, just received today. Therefore I am taking advantage of this volume and reciting one verse. This is in connection with Ṛṣabhadeva's instruction to His sons. Ṛṣabhadeva was a king, and He had one hundred sons. Of all of them, the eldest was Mahārāja Bharata, under whose name India is called Bhārata-varṣa since the time of Mahārāja Bharata. So the instruction was being discussed amongst the royal family members. Formerly, all Vedic instructions were discussed amongst the very topmost class of men. *Yad yad ācarati śreṣṭhas lokas tad anuvartate* [[bg/3/21|[Bg. 3.21] ]]. That is the instruction in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* If the higher level class of men accepts something as truth, then the ordinary, common man follows that.
So the problem of life is discussed here by Ṛṣabhadeva. He says, "My dear boys," *nāyaṁ deha deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye* [[sb/5/5/1|[SB. 5.5.1] ]]. Ayaṁ. Ayaṁ* means "this," this body. This human form of body, it is also a body, and the dog's body is also a body, material body. It is also made of blood and bone and urine and stool and so many other things. The dog's body is also made the same ingredients. But what is the difference between dog's body and this human body? He advises, *ayaṁ* *deha:* "This human form of body...," *deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke.* And where this body is obtained? It is obtained in the human society. This intelligent brain and good form of body, it is to be found in the human society. In the human society you will find from this body, big, big professors, big, big philosophers, scientists, mathematicians and..., they are coming. Not from the dog society. That is not possible. Therefore it should be properly utilized. *Nāyam deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke. Nṛloke* means in human society. So how it should be utilized? He says, *kaṣṭān kāmān arhate, na arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye. Kaṣṭān. Kaṣṭān* means very, very hard labor, *kaṣṭān.* And *kāmān* means necessities of life we require.

**Dr. Gopal:** It was 495 day before yesterday, and it is 290 only yesterday. It was less. Today's total urine is only... [indistinct calculating] or something like that.
**Dr. Gopal:** Yes. Yes, I understand. For your body, I can say. Can you take little bit of ice cream or cold custard?
**Dr. Gopal:** But I think I am not making any hindrance in your normal routine. And whatever medicine I am giving you, I will cut it down by fifty percent now.
