**Pradyumna:** Page 47. " 'Teachings to Sanātana Gosvāmī.' In the instructions of Lord Caitanya to Sanātana Gosvāmī, we can understand the science of God in the matter of His transcendental form, His opulences and His devotional service, for everything is being described to Sanātana Gosvāmī by the Lord Himself. At that time, Sanātana fell at the feet of the Lord and with great humility asked about his own real identity.
"He spoke as follows, 'I am born of a lower family. My associations are all abominable and I am fallen, the most wretched of mankind. I was suffering in the dark well of material enjoyment, and I never knew the actual goal of my life. I do not know what is beneficial to me. Although in the mundane sphere I am what is known as a great, learned man, I am in fact so much of a fool that I even accept that I am learned. You have accepted me as Your servant, and You've delivered me from the entanglement of material life. Now You can tell me what my duty is in this liberated state of life."

**Pradyumna:Translation:** "Duties, or dharma, executed by men are only so much useless labor if they do not provoke attraction for the message of the Supreme Lord." [[sb/1/2/8|[SB. 1.2.8] ]]
**Prabhupāda:** So, *dharmaḥ svanuṣṭhitaḥ puṁsām. Dharma* generally meant occupational duty. We have several times explained, the English dictionary, *dharma* is explained as faith. So faith may be changed. But actually, what is meant by *dharma,* that is constitutional position, activities in one's constitutional position. This has been explained by Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu: *jīvera svarūpa haya nitya-kṛṣṇa-dāsa* [[cc/madhya/20/108-109|[Cc. Madhya 20.108-109] ]].
Real *dharma,* constitutional position of the living entity, is to serve Kṛṣṇa. That is real *dharma.* Kṛṣṇa also confirms in the *Bhagavad-gītā, sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja* [[bg/18/66|[Bg. 18.66] ]]. So *mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja,* simply unto Kṛṣṇa, surrender, that is real *dharma.* Otherwise it is pseudo-religious principle, pretentious, *dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavaḥ.*

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
"O Gadādhara, Kṛṣṇa, our kingdom is now being marked by the impressions of Your feet, and therefore it appears beautiful. But when You leave, it will no longer be so."

**Prabhupāda:** > cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭam > guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ > tasya kartāram api māṁ > viddhy akartāram avyayam > [[bg/4/13|[Bg. 4.13] ]]
This is a verse from *Bhagavad-gītā*, Fourth Chapter, text number thirteen. Kṛṣṇa... The whole *Bhagavad-gītā* is *bhagavata,* means the Supreme Personality of Godhead; *gītā,* "spoken" or "sung." *Gītā* means "spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead," *Bhagavad-gītā*. Just like we speak, similarly God also speaks. We hear; God also hear. We eat; God also eats. Everything, as we do, Lord Kṛṣṇa, or the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He also does. The difference... Difference is that He does unlimitedly; we do limitedly. That's all. The functions are the same, but His functions, His activities, are unlimited, and our functions are limited.
Why so? Now, because we are part and parcel of God. *Mamaivāṁśo jīva-bhūtaḥ jīva-loke sanātanaḥ* [[bg/15/7|[Bg. 15.7] ]]. We are part and parcel of God. The example is: just like this finger is the part and parcel of my body, so the strength of the finger is not as big as the whole body strength. It is very easily understood. The bodily strength is different from the finger's strength. The finger is also part and parcel of this body. If I say... If you ask, "What is this?" if I say, "It is my body," so there is no mistake; it is part of the body. But it is not the whole body. The whole body is different. Therefore God and the living entity, they are the same quality, but quantity different.

**Prabhupāda:** Because they are also living being, so you cannot take their life unnecessarily. You are responsible. You can cut trees when they are dried like this; otherwise not. [break] ...cutting trees indiscriminately for manufacturing paper, some bundles of papers nobody reads. Every day...
**Prabhupāda:** ...they are publishing hundreds of thousands of copies for wasting, and for that paper it requires so many lives.
**Prahupada:** No, where is the man? All animals. Man will think. One who has knowledge, he will think. And what the animal will think? Anyone who is not a devotee, he is animal. *Śva-viḍ-varāhoṣṭra-kharaiḥ saṁstutaḥ puruṣaḥ paśuḥ* [[sb/2/3/19|[SB. 2.3.19] ]]. The big animal is being worshiped by a small animal. That's all. A lion in the forest is worshiped by the small animals. So does it mean the lion is not animal?
