# October 12 ## Spoken on October 12 *Lectures from this day: 5 recordings* --- **[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 13.18](spoken/1973/731012bg.bom)** > Yasya prabhā prabhavato jagad-aṇḍa-koṭi-koṭiṣv aśeṣa-vasudhādi* [Bs. 5.40]. Vasudhā* means this planet. *Vibhūti-bhinnam.* Each planet has got different atmosphere. Therefore these people, they cannot understand what is the atmosphere. They understand... Some scientists, they say the atmosphere in the moon planet is two hundred degrees below zero. So there are difference of scientists' opinion, but according to Vedic literature we understand that there are innumerable planets, and one of the planet is the moon planet. *Nakṣatrāṇām ahaṁ śaśī*. *Nakṣatrāṇām:* "Among the stars and planets," Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the moon." > Therefore Kṛṣṇa says that *satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvido bhavanti hṛt-karṇa-rasāyanāḥ kathāḥ*. Satāṁ prasaṅgāt.* In the association of devotees, if you discuss about the message of Kṛṣṇa, then it becomes very relishable, pleasing to the ear and to the heart. And if we bring them into practical use of life, *taj-joṣaṇād āśu,* very soon, *apavarga-vartmani,* on the path of liberation, *śraddhā,* faith, *bhakti,* devotion, *rati,* attachment, *anukramiṣyati,* comes one after another, one after another. So this is the process. --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.32](spoken/1974/741012sb.may)** > So the father conception of God, mother conception of God, is not bad. Just like in Bengal especially, they have got mother conception. Mother conception means the same thing: to exploit, take from mother, or father. But the Vaiṣṇava conception is not to accept God as father or mother but as son. Son means to give. Father means to take from him, and son means to take from the father. So if you become father of God, then your business will be to give, not to take. That is Vaiṣṇava conception. From the very beginning of the son's life, the mother is giving service to the son, the father is giving service. Therefore the service is there. Even Kṛṣṇa is afraid of Mother Yaśodā. Why? Why Mother Yaśodā was trying to bind Kṛṣṇa? Because He disrupted the process of service of Mother Yaśodā to Kṛṣṇa. That is... Mother Yaśodā tried that "You have broken the butter, and You have distributed to the monkeys, You rascal. Then how You will live? I kept the butter for You so that You will eat and You'll become fatty. And You have broken that, and You have distributed the butter to the monkeys, so You must be punished." So the aim is to serve Kṛṣṇa. Not that Yaśodā is thinking, "My butter is spoiled by this child. Therefore He should be punished." He [she] is anxious to see that "Kṛṣṇa may not starve for want of butter. He's child. He does not know. He has distributed the butter to the monkeys." But Kṛṣṇa knows that "These monkeys are not ordinary monkeys." Those monkeys, they have taken birth in Vṛndāvana and come to Kṛṣṇa, do you think they're ordinary monkeys? They're devotees. They're devotees. They're playing as monkey for Kṛṣṇa's satisfaction. These are the intricate meanings of understanding Kṛṣṇa's *līlā.* Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. > So to understand *kṛṣṇa-līlā...* So therefore we have to understand *kṛṣṇa-līlā,* Kṛṣṇa, from these books, *Bhāgavata, Bhagavad-gītā,* but not directly. Therefore Caitanya Mahāprabhu recommends, *bhāgavata giyā paro bhāgavata sthāne.* Just try to understand *Bhāgavata* or Bhagavān from the realized soul, not from the professional man. So here: *kecid āhur ajaṁ jātam. Āhuḥ ajaṁ jātam.* Contradiction. Now Kṛṣṇa says, *ajo 'pi:* "Although I am birthless, I do not take birth." *Ajo 'pi sann avyayātmā bhūtānām īśvaro 'pi san...*. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751012mw.dur)** > They do not know what is the necessity of the soul and what is the disease of the soul. They do not know. [break]...*nābhijānāti mām ebhyaḥ param avyayam*. What is the goal of life, these people, they do not know. *M*ūḍhās*. Mūḍhā* means rascals, *gādhā.* They do not know what is the goal of life. They take calculation of the duration of life, that fifty, sixty or hundred years, that's all. Beyond this, after this, they do not know. Yes. That is the defect. [break] Now, in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said that this temporary attempt to become happy—*antavanta phalaṁ teṣām* —it will end with the end of the body. But they do not know beyond this. Therefore *alpam-medhasām,* they are less intelligent. Just like a child playing. He likes to play and does not go to school. So do you think that is all right? >*sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ*. Veda* means knowledge. So the ultimate knowledge is to know God.
