# October 6 ## Spoken on October 6 *Lectures from this day: 9 recordings* --- **[1972: Meeting at University](spoken/1972/721006me.ber)** > Those who are in complete ignorance they have practically forgotten what is God. Those who are in the modes of passion, they have got slight information of God and those who are in goodness they can understand what is God. Therefore God says Kṛṣṇa says, *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭam*, according to the quality. That there must be four classes of social order the first-class in goodness *brāhmaṇa*, most intelligent class, *brahma jānāti iti brāhmaṇaḥ*. *Brāhmaṇa* does not understand only ordinary things but he understands the Supreme the source of everything that is *brāhmaṇa*. The qualities are described there. > Of course *śūdras* were not given any education or they were incapable of receiving education. Especially the *brāhmaṇas* and *kṣatriyas* were educated to guide the social welfare. That is the Vedic system and therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ*. *Guṇa* and *karma*—not by birth, Kṛṣṇa says by quality and by work. One must be qualified *brāhmaṇa* by the symptoms, truthfulness, controlling the mind, controlling the senses very simple simplicity of life. *Ārjavam, jñānam, vijñānam*—full of knowledge, *vijñānam*—practical application is life. --- **[1972: Room Conversation](spoken/1972/721006r1.ber)** > So therefore either communism or this capitalism, or this ism or that ism it simply requires the names of... the same thing that's all. Vedic culture plan is a King, the executive head should be the representative of God. He must be so perfect that he should be. Therefore a King is offered the same respect as to God. Therefore in Sanskrit language it is called *naradeva*—God in the human form of life, he should be so perfect. And everything is described in our, these literatures. *Bhāgavata*, how perfect King is working. Just like in India they say, "Ram-raj." > So there is no bar, there is no hindrance everyone can take it up it is open to everyone. So everyone should be given the chance to become a perfect *brāhmaṇa*—that is brahminical culture—that is Vedic culture. Because the human life is a chance to understand God in the lower animal life there is no such chance. A dog cannot be educated to understand God but a man can be. So if this human life is misused in the matter of animal propensities then it is a great loss. His propensities for understanding God should be aroused that is real education, *āhāra-nidrā-bhaya-maithunaṁ ca sāmānyam etat paśubhir narāṇām* [*Hitopadeśa* 25]. --- **[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 13.13](spoken/1973/731006bg.bom)** > We are disturbed by the bodily concepts of life, every one of us. Everyone is busy how to relieve the bodily pains and pleasure. That's all. The real pains and pleasure: that the living entity who has accepted this material body, he has to continue these pains and pleasure. That is explained in the *Bhagavad, janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi .* So there is no science to give relief from *janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi.* So how you can expect relief? It is temporary relief. So Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā* we should not be disturbed by the temporary pains and pleasure. > So Kṛṣṇa said that *dharma-saṁsthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge.* Then what is that *dharma*? He did not come here to reestablish Hinduism or Muslimism or Christianism. No. He came to give you real *dharma.* What is that? *Sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. That is *dharma,* to surrender unto Kṛṣṇa: "Kṛṣṇa, I am eternally Your servant. I forgot You. Now I come to my senses. I surrender unto You." This is *dharma. Bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate*. This sense, real sense, comes when after struggling, struggling for many, many births, one becomes wise. *Bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān. Jñānavān* means wise. Not fools and rascals. *Jñānavān māṁ prapadyate:* "He surrenders unto Me." So anyone who is surrendering to Kṛṣṇa, taking to Kṛṣṇa or devotional service fully, he is the most intelligent man. He's not cats and dogs or rascals. Because Kṛṣṇa says *jñānavān.* This is real knowledge. That will be explained. --- **[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.8.26](spoken/1974/741006sb.may)** > So this is the illusion. Therefore *śāstra* says, *ato gṛha-kṣetra-sutāpta-vittair janasya moho 'yam. Janasya moho 'yam ahaṁ mameti*. How a man becomes entangled in this material world, everything is described in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Puṁsaḥ striyā mithunī-bhāvam etam.* This material world means sex attraction, *mithunī-bhāva.* The man is searching after woman; woman is searching after man. This is material life—in human life, in bird's, beast's... Just these sparrows—they are trying to make some nest on this chandelier to enjoy sex and lay eggs. Therefore they require some place. The basic principle is sex. First of all sex life, then other necessities. First of all, seeing, man and woman. Then, when they unite, *puṁsaḥ striyā mithunī-bhāvam etaṁ tayor mitho hṛdaya-granthim āhuḥ*. When they unite and they get children, then the hard knot of heart—"She is my wife. She's [He's] my husband. We cannot separated..." Hard knot. *Hṛdaya-granthi.* Already there is attraction. Now this attraction becomes more and more tight after unity. Then we require a place to live together, "Home, sweet home." Yes, very sweet. [chuckles] The whole day and night, work. And this is *moha.* He is working hard day and night. There is not a single's moment leisure, and still, he's: "Sweet home." This is illusion. > Dehāpatya-kalatrādiṣv ātma-sainyeṣv asatsv api*. Asat:* they will not stay. I have got experience. Everyone has got... My... I was children; you were children. Now, I had father to take protection or other relative, friend. But now they are gone. *Asatsu.* Everything is finished. So these soldiers, either as father or son, the father is finished, the son will be..., also will be finished. *Asatsu api. Dehāpatya-kalatrādiṣv ātma-sainyeṣv asatsv api, pramatto teṣāṁ nidhanam.* These soldiers will be killed. *Teṣāṁ nidhanaṁ, paśyann api na paśyati.* He knows; he has got experience. Still, he is blind, that "These soldiers will not be able to give me protection. When death will come, they'll not be able. But my real miserable condition is birth, death and old age and disease. So when I fall sick, they can help. They're eager to help. But real help they cannot give me." One should understand that. *Ātma-sainyeṣv asatsv api.* They will be killed. Real protection is Kṛṣṇa. That we do not know. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/751006mw.dur)** > The nature's law is different. That is acting in a different way, which you do not know. He is forcing you to become old. He is forcing you to die. Still, you do not know how much you are under the grip of the laws of nature. Such a foolish man, and you are engaged in building skyscraper. Just see. He does not take care that "I am being forced to become something against my will, and I am freely doing all these nonsense." Just like the dog. Dog is thinking, "I am free," running here and there. As soon as the master, "Come on..." [laughter] Just see. Dog has no sense that "I was jumping like free, but I am not free." That sense he hasn't got. So if a human being has not so such sense, then what is the difference between him and the dog? Hmm? This is to be considered. But they have no sense, no brain, no education, and they are still going on as civilized. Just see. *Mūḍhā.* Therefore *mūḍho nābhijānāti*. > > na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇuṁ > > durāśayā ye bahir-artha-māninaḥ > > andhā yathāndhair upanīyamānās > > te 'pīsa... > > [1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.7.47–48](spoken/1976/761006sb.vrn)** > There are three *guṇas,* qualities, in the material world. *Sattva-guṇa... Tri-guṇa-mayī. Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī*. Guṇamayī. Triguṇamayī* in this material world: *sattva-guṇa, rajo-guṇa, tamo-guṇa.* So those who are influenced by the *sattva-guṇa,* they are first class. First class means first class in this material world, not in the spiritual world. Spiritual world is different. That is *nirguṇa:* no material qualities. There is no first class, second class, third class. Everyone is first class. That is absolute. Kṛṣṇa is first class, His devotees are also first class. The trees are first class, the birds are first class, the cows are first class, the calves are first class. Therefore it is called absolute—no conception of relative, second class, third class, fourth class. No. Everything is first class. > Just like Prahlāda Mahārāja said, *śoce tato vimukha-cetasa indriyārtha-māyā-sukhāya bharam udvahato vimūḍhān*. "Because my father has done so much injustice unto me...," so Kṛṣṇa wanted to give him benediction. But he refused: "No. I do not require anything. I am quite happy. I don't want anything. And in exchange of my service... Because I have done some work as Vaiṣṇava, it is my duty..." *Jīvera svarūpa haya nitya-kṛṣṇa-dāsa*. "It is my duty as a servant. I have tolerated all tribulations offered by my father. I was never disturbed. I preached amongst my class friends. Whatever possible I have done. But that does not mean I want some benefit. No. I am not a *bāniyā, vaṇik. Sa vai vaṇik.* So do not offer me any benediction. I am quite satisfied." So the question may be that "You are satisfied in spite of undergoing so much trouble? Still, you are...?" "Yes, I am satisfied. Yes, I am satisfied." "How?" *Tvad-vīrya-gāyana-mahāmṛta-magna-cittaḥ:* "Because I have learned by the grace of Nārada Muni how to chant Your holy name." That's it. *Tvad-vīrya-gāyana-mahāmṛta:* "This chanting of Your glorification is *mahāmṛta,* a great nectarean." *Tvad-vīrya-gāyana-mahāmṛta-magna-cittaḥ.* "My *cittaḥ,* my consciousness, is always absorbed in the thought of Your glorification. Therefore I am not at all happy [unhappy]." "You are not unhappy in spite of so much tribulation given by your father?" "Yes. I'm not at all." This is Vaiṣṇava. He cannot be unhappy. We see that Prahlāda Mahārāja was put into so much trouble by his father. Even, even this Draupadī, she was put into so much trouble—immediately, her sons are killed. But she is..., actually she is not unhappy. This is Vaiṣṇava. Vaiṣṇava cannot be unhappy in any circumstances. --- **[1977: Room Conversation & Arrivals from New Vrindavan](spoken/1977/771006r1.vrn)** --- ## Letters on October 6 *Letters from this day: 17* --- **[1967: Letter to Satsvarupa](letters/1967/671006_satsvarupa)** > The letter which you have enclosed therein to facilitate my permanent Visa appears to be nice but if an invitation or provisional appointment as lecturer is possible, I think that will be still nicer. --- **[1968: Letter to Advaita](letters/1968/681006_advaita)** > I am so glad to learn that the New York devotees are all feeling my separation and you are feeling also; this is very blissful. --- **[1968: Letter to Alan Ginsberg](letters/1968/681006_alan_ginsberg)** > Alan Ginsberg Please accept my blessings. 23, 1968, and I thank you very much for your so much sympathy for this Krishna Consciousness movement. Coat, pants, necktie, and everything, Brahmacari and Grhasthas, they can put on, because you are not Sannyasi. --- **[1968: Letter to Dinesh](letters/1968/681006_dinesh)** > *My passport and two certificates which are lying with Cidananda.* These are very important documents and *bring them within your inside pocket carefully.* Some files and large brown envelopes that are lying in San Francisco. --- **[1968: Letter to Jayapataka](letters/1968/681006_jayapataka)** > I have not heard anything about publication of our Back To Godhead in French language.
