**Prabhupāda:** ...For your participating in this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement. Do not take this movement as any sectarian. [break] It is a scientific, philosophical, cultural movement. People at the present moment they have forgotten themselves, the modern civilisation is based on. On the bodily concept of life. But actually we are not this body, we are spirit soul part and parcel of the Supreme Lord.
As Lord is spirit the complete whole spirit, we are part and parcel of God but we are covered by subtle and gross body or matter. As such we have forgotten our identification and on the bodily concept of life we are thinking, "I am an American, I am Indian, I am Hindu, I am Muslim, I am Christian." But actually we are all part and parcel of God, we have to come to that consciousness.
This consciousness is called Kṛṣṇa consciousness or God consciousness. Unless we come to that platform there is no question of peace and prosperity. Just like a madman unless he is cured of his madness he cannot be happy there is no question of peace and prosperity. The disease must be cured. Similarly this bodily concept of life is a material disease. So our movement, this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is not a new hobby or something introduced new.

So we are worshiping the original person, Govinda. People are embarrassed to find out the cause of all causes. The scientists, the philosophers, they are embarrassed, the religionists. But we have got information of the original cause:
There must be some cause. We do not accept anything as chance. No. There is no chance. There is cause. Everything has got cause. So the original cause is Kṛṣṇa. So our knowledge is perfect therefore. We know the cause. So you chant this *mantra, govindam ādi-puruṣaṁ tam ahaṁ bhajāmi,* and you will be in full knowledge. *Yasmin vijñāte sarvam idaṁ vijñātaṁ bhavanti* [*Muṇḍaka Upaniṣad* 1.3].

**Prabhupāda:** [*Govindam* prayers playing; sings along] [leads singing of *Jaya Rādhā-Mādhava*]* [*prema-dhvani*]* Thank you very much.
**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.*
*Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* Canto number one, Chapter 3, text 31. [begins chanting] *Yathā nabhasi*... [pauses] Hmm.

**Prabhupāda:** So we have been discussing for the last few days about the process of knowledge. So we have discussed already *amānitvam,* humbleness. *Amānitvam adambhitvam ahiṁsā* *[[bg/13/8|[Bg. 13.8] ]],* *ahiṁsā,* nonviolence. So *ahiṁsā, kṣāntiḥ,* tolerance, *ārjavam,* simplicity. These things we have already discussed. Now another important thing is *ācāryopāsanam.* If you want to make progress, then you have to approach *ācārya.* Just like if you want to be educated, you go to school, you go to college, you go to university, similarly, if you want to be advanced in knowledge...
Knowledge means not this material knowledge. Actual knowledge is to advance in spiritual knowledge. Just in this *Bhagavad-gītā* the beginning of knowledge was instructed by Kṛṣṇa, that "I am not this body." *Dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā* [[bg/2/13|[Bg. 2.13] ]].
"I am encaged in this body. I am not this body." Unfortunately, at the present moment, this is accepted knowledge, bodily concept, "I am..." "I am Indian," "I am American," "I am *brāhmaṇa,*" "I am *kṣatriya.*" This is going on. Actually the knowledge begins when one understands, "I am not American," "I am not Indian," "I am not *brāhmaṇa,*" "I am not *kṣatriya.*" Then what you are? Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, *gopī-bhartuḥ pada-kamalayor dāsa-dāsānu-dāsa* [[cc/madhya/13/80|[Cc. Madhya 13.80] ]]: "I am the servant of the servant of the servant of Kṛṣṇa, the provider of the *gopīs,*" *gopī-bhartuḥ.* That is my real identification. Not this body.

**Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
**Translation:** "I wish that all those calamities would happen again and again so that we could see You again and again, for seeing You means that we will no longer see repeated births and deaths."

**Prabhupāda:** ...only here I have seen. All the islands on the Pacific and Indian Ocean are all potential. Philippines, very... The Philippine boys, I saw, very nice. They are not guided.
**Prabhupāda:** Fiji. Fiji also. Fiji, mostly Indian, but the original Fiji Fijians, they are also very nice.
**Prabhupāda:** Bali, there are practically Hindus. Yes. Everywhere. The soul is pure. They have been made impure by misleading.

**Prabhupāda:** Which you...? No, just I want to end this verse. Shall I speak in Hindi or English? That I am...
**Prabhupāda:** Hindi. [Transl. The point I am making is...You can explain to them.] You read it thoroughly and you explain it either in English or Hindi, as you think befitting to your friends. [Transl. Write about that.] So we have got so many literatures in French language. We are also asking some men from Europe. That will create some impression. Yes. White elephant. [laughter] Dancing. Everyone will purchase ticket. Yes. *Thik hai.* Bring some white elephant. So literature is there. But one thing is that you must be placed in *sadācāra,* well behaved. So you have to sacrifice, especially your long hair. And if you sacrifice your hair, we can export it and get some money. [laughter] [laughing] Because in Western countries they want these hairs to make wigs. Yes. So just... [Transl. So just as these people have been taught...]
As they have been trained up to rise early in the morning, this will give you spiritual strength. If you simply becomes a gramophone speaker, then it will not be effective. Gramophone or tape record speaker, that will not be. You must be live speaker. Your living condition should be spiritually, what is called, surcharged. So that means you must be trained up how to rise early in the morning, take your bath, cleanse yourself, chant Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra.* Then you will be spiritually strong. When you are spiritually strong, if you speak something on spiritual subject matter, then it will be effective. Otherwise it will be just like tape record playing. So this is required. And you should... You are asking something?

**Prabhupāda:** > sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo > yato bhaktir adhokṣaje > ahaituky apratihatā > yayātmā suprasīdati > [[sb/1/2/6|[SB. 1.2.6] ]]
This is a verse from *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* First Canto, Chapter Two, text number six. There was a big meeting of great sages, saintly persons, about 2,500 years ago at Naimiṣāraṇya. Naimiṣāraṇya still... Those who have gone to India, they know, near Lucknow there is a place, it is called now, railway station, Nimsar. So there is Naimiṣāraṇya. So there in the meeting the questions were put by the sages that to summarize the whole range of revealed scriptures, because in India the Vedic literatures are many-folded. First of all there are the four *Vedas—Sāma, Yajur, Ṛk, Atharva.* Then they are explained or supplemented by the *Purāṇas,* eighteen *Purāṇas.* Then they are further explained by 108 *Upaniṣads.* Then they are summarized in *Vedānta-sūtra, Brahma-sūtra.* And then again, the *Brahma-sūtra* is explained by *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Bhāṣyāyāṁ brahma-sūtrāṇām.* [From *Garuḍa Purāṇa* quoted in Śrī *Caitanya-caritāmṛta Madhya* 25.143] The *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is the direct commentary by the author himself. Therefore you will find at the end of each chapter of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, śrīmad-bhāgavate mahā-purāṇe brahma-sūtra bhāṣye. Bhāṣya* means commentary. Commentary means to explain. Just like in the *Brahma-sūtra* the first aphorism is **athāto brahma-jijñāsā: "This human form of life is meant for inquiring about the Absolute Truth." Brahman means Absolute Truth, the Supreme Truth.
So it is said that the human life should not be spoiled or spended [spent] like animals. *Nāyaṁ deho deha-bhājāṁ nṛloke kaṣṭān kāmān arhate viḍ-bhujāṁ ye* [[sb/5/5/1|[SB. 5.5.1] ]]. What is the distinction between the human form of life and the life of the hogs and dogs? What is the difference? The difference is that the hogs and dogs...
