**[1969: Lecture](spoken/1969/690926le.lon)**
> Therefore those who are sensible, they do not aspire for all these temporary things. Temporary bodily acquisitions: good birth, good opulence, good beauty and good knowledge—these are bodily acquisitions. Everyone is very much proud if he's born in a nice family or nice nation. Oh, he's very proud, "I am Englishman," or "American," "I am this," "I am *brāhmaṇa,*" "I am this, [indistinct] proud." Why? Good birth. Then, if one is very rich, oh, he's very proud. Then, if one is very much learned, he is very proud. And if one is very beautiful, he's also very proud. *Janmaiśvarya-śruta-śrībhiḥ*.* These are our objects of being proud. But this can be finished within a second, because it is due to this body.
> Therefore *Bhagavad-gītā* says, *brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā*. If actually one has realized Brahman, then he should be free from all anxieties. *Prasannātmā. Prasanna* means joyful. Because all our anxieties are due to this identification of this body—"I am Englishman," "I am Indian," "I am this," "I am that." Therefore I am..., we are always anxious, anxiety. Even the cats and dogs, they are also anxious for their body, protection. As in nationwise, everyone is anxious, "Oh, let them... Russians, they may not come." The Russians thinking, "Here... Yes. They may not come." Oh, could their words and deeds. All anxiety! Advancement, so-called nonsense advancement is increasing anxiety. That's all.

**[1972: Anādi karama-phale and Purport](spoken/1972/720926mu.la)**
> As, if anyone takes some pungent food, it burns the heart, similarly, as we are trying to be happy by sense enjoyment, actually, it is just becoming the opposite, a cause of burning our heart. *E viṣaya-halāhale, divā-niśi hiyā jvale*, that burning sensation is going on twenty-four hours, day and night. *Mana kabhu sukha nāhi pāya*, and on account of this my mind is not at all in satisfaction.
> Āśā-pāśa-śata-śata kleśa dey abirata*, I am always making plan, hundreds and thousands, how I shall become happy, but actually all of them giving me trouble, pains, twenty-four hours. *Pravṛtti-ūrmira tāhe khelā*, it is exactly like the waves of the ocean, always dashing one another that is my position.
---
**[1972: Morning Walk](spoken/1972/720926mw.la)**
> Svarūpa Dāmodara: Yes, in order to germinate it's... Normally the.embryo the living forces inside sleeping inside the seed so when under favorable conditions.
> Svarūpa Dāmodara: So if the scientists understands that the living force inside the seed is Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa's energy. Then he will immediately forget his speculative... eh concept.
---
**[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.3.21](spoken/1972/720926sb.la)**
> So now, here it is said that *tataḥ saptadaśe jātaḥ satyavatyāṁ parāśarāt*. Parāśarāt,* semina given by Parāśara Muni in the womb of Satyavatī, *satyavatyām.* And *cakre veda-taroḥ śākhāḥ. Veda,* the knowledge, he divided. Vyāsadeva divided into many branches. Therefore Vyāsadeva is known as Veda-vyāsa. He expanded the Vedic knowledge. Formerly there was only one *Veda, Atharva-veda.* And this *Atharva-veda* was learned by tradition, by hearing from the spiritual master.
> So anyway, the system is unless one is married, a girl, she must remain under the control of the parents. Therefore it is the parents' duty to see that the girl is married to a suitable boy. That is the duty. When the girl is married, then parents' duty is finished. Not by the age. Up to this point. So during young time, say, up to, say, forty years, she should remain under the husband. And when there are grown-up children, she should remain... Just like that Mrs. Sharma. She is under the care of her elderly sons.
---
**[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 13.3](spoken/1973/730926bg.bom)**
> Therefore people are not very much interested in worshiping Kṛṣṇa. They are generally interested in worshiping Goddess Durgā, Lord Śiva. Because by worshiping Lord Śiva, Goddess Durgā, they get material opulence. So to worship the demigods means cent per cent materialism. There is no question of spiritual life. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says... What is that verse? *Naṣṭa-buddhayaḥ. Kāmais tais tair hṛta-jñānāḥ yajante 'nya-devatāḥ*.* Those who are interested in worshiping other demigods, their intelligence is taken away, *hṛta-jñāna. Kāmais tais tair..., māyayāpahṛta-jñāna.* These terms are there.
> We are seeking friendship with so many people to get our motive realized. But if we make Kṛṣṇa..., if we know Kṛṣṇa is already ready... In the *Upaniṣad* it is said that two birds in friendly way are sitting in the same tree, the body. So if we understand, "Kṛṣṇa is my best friend..." Kṛṣṇa says, *suhṛdaṁ sarva-bhūtānām.* He's not only my friend, your friend, but He's a friend of everyone. So that friendship is equally distributed. But if one becomes special devotee, *ye tu bhajanti māṁ prītyā,* with love and affection, one who is engaged in the service of the Lord, He's especially inclined to him. That is Kṛṣṇa's mercy to the devotee. Kṛṣṇa is equal to everyone, but He is specially inclined to the devotees who is engaged in His service with love and faith.

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.18](spoken/1974/740926sb.cal)**
> If you want to learn the transcendental subject matter, then you must adopt three things. *Tad viddhi...* First of all surrender. Find out that kind of person where you can surrender. If there is no surrender, it is not possible. So the..., the Vaiṣṇava philosophy begins from surrender. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekaṁ śaraṇaṁ vraja*. That is the order of Kṛṣṇa. And what is the difference between Kṛṣṇa and His representative? The representative says that "You surrender to Kṛṣṇa." He never says that "You surrender to me. I have become Kṛṣṇa." That is a nonsense, rascal. He will say the same thing. Therefore he's Kṛṣṇa's representative. Kṛṣṇa is personally asking that "You surrender to Me," and it is the duty of this bona fide spiritual master, *guru,* to say to his disciple that "You surrender to Kṛṣṇa." He'll never say that "You surrender to Me. I have become Kṛṣṇa. Now I am realized soul, I have become Bhagavān." He's a rascal.
> So these are the process. *Tad viddhi praṇipātena paripraśnena sevayā*. Here it is also, the same thing. The same thing is said in a different way. That is *śāstra.* Actually, as Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā...* What is *Veda*? There are four *Vedas* and 108 *Upaniṣads,* then *Vedānta-sūtra,* then so, so many books. All of them are *Vedas.* And what is the purpose? *Vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ*. You read all the *Vedas,* all the *Purāṇas, Brahma-sūtra, Rāmāyaṇa, Mahābhārata.* What is the purpose? To understand Kṛṣṇa. If you don't understand Kṛṣṇa, then it is useless. Your so-called study of *Vedas* are useless. *Śrama eva hi kevalam.* That is the confirmation of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.*
---
**[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750926mw.ahm)**
> The Absolute Truth is manifested in three ways: impersonal Brahman and all-pervading *Paramātmā* and Personality of Godhead—*brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti śabdyate*—but they are one and the same. This is the verdict of the *śāstra.* So we can understand from this example that the sun is localized. Everyone can see. At the same time, sunshine is all-pervading, and within the sun globe there is a predominating deity. He is a person. Similarly, originally God is person, and then, when He expands, all-pervasive, that is *Paramātmā.* And when He expands by His energy, that is Brahman. This is understanding. *Brahmeti paramātmeti bhagavān iti.* Now somebody, they finish their business by realizing the impersonal Brahman, and somebody finishes his business by realizing the localized *Paramātmā, yogīs. Jñānīs, yogīs.* And the *bhaktas,* they come to the real, original source of everything: Kṛṣṇa. That is the difference.
> Indian man (3): There are three things: jīvātmā, Paramātmā or prakṛti. [Transl. They are beginingless. Three things are beginingless. Paramatma is there, but He has no form] Who is not connected with anything, He is, simply is a guider. He guides.

**[1976: Room Conversation](spoken/1976/760926r1.vrn)**
>took from my friends, I collected some money and... So other important members said, "Why Abhaya Bābu is living separately? He should be the president of the Bombay." I never said, but they said. I was living separately. Then Prabhupāda requested, I mean to say, pleaded in my behalf so many things. He said three words, "It is better that he is living outside your company. He will do. When time will come, he'll do himself everything. You haven't got to recommend him." These very words.
>Kṛṣṇa require any president or any GBC. He's giving chance to everyone, that's all. Otherwise thousands of presidents and thousands of GBC may come and go, His work will go on. Kṛṣṇa is complete Himself. He doesn't require anyone's help. That is Kṛṣṇa.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.7.30–31](spoken/1976/760926sb.vrn)**
> So this is going on. This is material world. And if you go to the spiritual world, *yad gatvā na nivartante tad dhāma paramaṁ mama .* The difference... What is the difference between the spiritual world and the material world? The difference is that if you go to the spiritual world, then you will not return again in this material world. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti*. Spiritual life means *punar janma naiti. Punar janma* means this material world. *Bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate*.* One *janma,* then death, again *janma,* again death. And between the death and birth or birth and death there is disease and old age. *Janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha... .* This is our real problem.
> You have to approach such *guru.* And who is that *guru*? Vaiṣṇava. Not anyone else. Therefore anyone who is not Vaiṣṇava, you should not approach. It is false knowledge. Its knowledge has no value. Sanātana Gosvāmī has strictly forbidden: *avaiṣṇava-mukhodgīrṇaṁ pūtaṁ hari-kathāmṛtam, śravaṇaṁ naiva kartavyam.* Don't hear. You'll be spoiled. Caitanya Mahāprabhu has said, *māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile haya sarva-nāśa*. If you hear from a Māyāvādī, impersonalist, then your spiritual progress is doomed, finished. No more spiritual progress. *Māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile. Māyāvādī haya kṛṣṇe aparādhī.* The Māyāvādī, they are offenders to Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Person, and the Māyāvādī wants to make Him imperson; therefore they are offenders.
