**[1971: Room Conversation with African Intelligentsia](spoken/1971/710922r1.nai)**
> Kṣīraṁ* means milk. As it is combined with some sour chemical it becomes curd—*dadhi*. *Dadhi*, yogurt. It has no other source. Similarly, when Lord, the Supreme Lord, generates this material world, He is called Lord Śiva. Therefore just like yogurt is milk, but milk is not yogurt, similarly Lord Śiva is Kṛṣṇa, but Kṛṣṇa is not Śiva. Or Kṛṣṇa is Lord Śiva, but Śiva is not Kṛṣṇa. You can understand easily also, just like your body is your father's body, but you are not your father's body. So you will understand all these things. If you try to understand Kṛṣṇa only, then you will become fully aware of everything. That is Kṛṣṇa consciousness.
> Similarly, because we have now come to this material world for enjoying this material world, under different consciousness we are given different bodies. God is so kind: "All right; please enjoy." Just like a tiger, he wants to enjoy fresh blood immediately. So God has given, "All right; you take this body. You can enjoy." So God is very kind. As we want to enjoy differently, He gives us different bodies. Therefore we have to withdraw all these desires. We have to simply desire God, or Kṛṣṇa. Then you get godly body. That's all.

**[1972: Mānasa Deha Geha and Purport](spoken/1972/720922mu.la)**
> First of all, he is surrendering the mind, because mind is the origin of all kinds of speculations; and surrendering, rendering devotional service means first controlling the mind. Therefore he says *mānasa*, means "mind," then *deha*: "senses." *Śarīra. Deha* means this body; body means senses. So, if we surrender the mind unto the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, then automatically the senses also become surrendered.
> Janmāobi moe icchā jadi tor*: "If you so desire"—because a devotee goes back to Home, goes back to Godhead—therefore Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura proposes, "If You like that I shall again take birth, it doesn't matter."
---
**[1972: Morning Walk](spoken/1972/720922mw.la)**
> Svarūpa Dāmodara: Everything in this material world is all relative. Nothing is absolute. For example, time and space, these are all relative terms; there is nothing absolute. That means something is bigger than something. If you compare two things, like small ball and the big ball, the big ball is big enough compared with the small one. Same thing, if you compare the length of certain pole, that length will be relative to a certain standard. So everything is related.
---
**[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.3.17](spoken/1972/720922sb.la)**
> So the whole Vedic system is to convince one that "You are not this body, and anything you possess in relationship with your body, they are all illusion. You are spirit soul, part and parcel of God, Kṛṣṇa. Therefore your duty is some way or other, come out of this entanglement of the bodily concept of life and bodily possession. Come out. Be free. *Brahmā-bhūta .* Now your position is *jīva-bhūta.*" *Jīva-bhūta* means you are thinking that "I am a product of this material world." All scientists, all philosophers, they are the same concept, that "I am this body. Beyond this body there is nothing." All big, big professors, scientists, that "After this body is finished, everything is finished."
> But actually, that is not a fact. From *Bhagavad-gītā* you understand that *na jāyate na mriyate.* The spirit soul is never born, never dies. It is the body, material body, that takes birth and dies. But spirit soul remains. *Dehāntara-prāptiḥ. Tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ*. He transmigrates to another body, just like we are transmigrating from one body to another.

**[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 13.26](spoken/1974/740922bg.del)**
> There is no security in any place. But Kṛṣṇa says, *yad gatvā na nivartante tad dhāma paramaṁ mama :* "But you can go at a place wherefrom you haven't got to return. That is My *paraṁ dhāma.*" So why not that? *Mad-yājino 'pi yānti mām*. So if you worship Kṛṣṇa... The simple thing... Kṛṣṇa has agreed to take your service. Because you cannot see Kṛṣṇa physically. You *can* see. This Kṛṣṇa, when He's present in this *mūrti,* Deity, He's physically present, because you cannot work without Kṛṣṇa's being physically present. Kṛṣṇa is everything. So because you cannot see Kṛṣṇa otherwise, therefore Kṛṣṇa has appeared before you just like a stone statue. Because you cannot see Kṛṣṇa without His becoming a stone statue or wooden statue. That is Kṛṣṇa's mercy. But that does not mean Kṛṣṇa is stone. Kṛṣṇa is everything. So *mad-yājinaḥ.* To accept your worship, Kṛṣṇa is here. Don't consider that "Here is a stone Deity." No, He's Kṛṣṇa. He has agreed. Because *mad-yājinaḥ.* Kṛṣṇa says, "One who worships Me..." Now, ordinarily, where is Kṛṣṇa, we don't find. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is available in this form. Kṛṣṇa is so kind, that "You take Me. You offer Me service." *Mad-yājinaḥ.* "I will accept." We should worship Kṛṣṇa in that spirit, not that "We are worshiping a stone. He cannot see. Let me do all nonsense in the Deity room." No. He is seeing. Don't be so much cunning. He's more cunning than you. You see. He can see.
> Generally, people, they cook for themselves nice, palatable foodstuffs for eating and enjoying. But they do not know that they are eating all sinful reaction. *Bhuñjate te aghaṁ pāpā ye pacanty ātma-kāraṇāt.* What is the difference between this house and the next house? Here we cook for Kṛṣṇa, not for ourselves. Therefore we are being saved. Otherwise, if you don't cook for Kṛṣṇa, if you cook for yourself, then it is, in the *Bhagavad-gītā* said, *bhuñjate te tv aghaṁ pāpā ye pacanty ātma-kāraṇāt*.
---
**[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.7.25](spoken/1976/760922sb.vrn)**
> It is required, *sādhu-saṅga.* Then if he meets *sādhu...* By one or two words from him, he can convince you about supremacy of the Supreme Lord. Otherwise, he'll take birth after birth, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante*. Therefore we have to make *sādhu-saṅga*. Satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvido bhavanti hṛt-karṇa-rasāyanāḥ kathāḥ*. Sādhu-saṅga* is very essential. *Sat-saṅga.* Otherwise... There is another verse in the *Brahma-saṁhitā,* that *vedeṣu durlabhaḥ *[Bs. 5.33].
> Here, *bhuvo bhāra-jihīrṣayā.* An *avatāra* comes to do some particular work. Just like Lord Rāmacandra came to punish Rāvaṇa. That is *avatāra.* And there are many *avatāras,* they are mentioned in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam:* Matsya-avatāra, Kūrma-avatāra, and Varāha-avatāra, Vāmana-avatāra, Nṛsiṁha-avatāra and Paraśurāma-avatāra, Balarāma-avatāra, Buddha-avatāra. Buddha is also *avatāra. Keśava dhṛta-buddha-śarīra jaya jagadīśa hare* [*Daśāvatāra Stotra* 9]. We do not agree with Buddha philosophy. Caitanya Mahāprabhu said, *veda nā māniyā bauddha haya ta' nāstika*. Buddha philosophy is atheism: "There is no God." He says, "There is no God." So that is atheism. And especially... That there is no God, there is God—that is not the point. His point was to stop the animal-killing. *Sadaya-hṛdaya darśita-paśu-ghātam.* Kṛṣṇa became very, very, sympathetic with the poor animals: "Oh, in the name of *yajña* these rascals, rogues, are killing so many animals." Therefore He came as Buddha-avatāra. *Sadaya-hṛdaya darśita-paśu-ghātam. Keśava dhṛta-buddha-śarīra jaya jagadīśa hare.* So Vaiṣṇava knows that "Here is Lord Buddha. He's Kṛṣṇa's *avatāra,*" although we don't take his philosophy, because Buddha refused to accept Vedic authority. *Nindasi yajña-vidher ahaha śruti-jātam. Śruti* means *Veda. Śruti-jātam.* In the *śruti,* in the *Vedas,* there is mention of *paśu* sacrifice, animal sacrifice, there is. So they began to argue with Lord Buddha that "You are stopping *yajña-vidhi,* stopping animal-killing in the *yajña.* This is mentioned in the *Vedas.*" But Lord Buddha knew, "These rascals simply talking of *Vedas,* he does not know what is *Vedas.* But what is the use of arguing?" Therefore he has to say, "I don't care for your *Vedas.* Stop animal-killing." So *nindasi yajña-vidheḥ. Yajña-vidhi,* he wanted to stop: no more animal sacrifice in the *yajña.* Therefore he is denying the authority of *Vedas. Nindasi yajña-vidher ahaha śruti-jātam.* We cannot violate which is mentioned in the... Therefore he was taken... But he's *avatāra.* It was needed at that time.
