# September 21 ## Spoken on September 21 *Lectures from this day: 6 recordings* --- **[1972: Morning Walk](spoken/1972/720921mw.la)** > Therefore a man's education, culture, his acts of piety, charity—so many good things are there—with all these things one should try to glorify the Lord. That is perfect. If there is a great scientist, great mathematician, he should try to prove the glories of the Lord whenever [indistinct]. That is his success. Chemist, he should try to glorify the Supreme by his chemical knowledge. That is perfection. > That is our philosophy, that everyone should utilize his talents for serving Kṛṣṇa. That is perfect. Never mind you are chemist, you are mathematician, you are engineer, or whatever you may, you have got a particular position within this universe. So if in your particular position you try to satisfy the Supreme, then it is perfect. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.3.16 and Initiations](spoken/1972/720921sb.la)** > Therefore it is said, *ataḥ śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmādi na bhaved grāhyam indriyaiḥ*. In our present senses we always think of seeing. But we forget that what seeing power we have got. It is nothing. It is simply under certain condition we can see a little portion. We cannot see perfectly, so we should not believe in our seeing power. So therefore *śāstra* says, *ataḥ śrī-kṛṣṇa-nāmādi na bhaved grāhyam indriyaiḥ* : "You cannot understand Kṛṣṇa and God by your present imperfect senses. That is not possible." *Na bhaved grāhyam,* "You cannot accept or you cannot receive by your blunt senses." That is not possible. > So unlimited. Unlimited. *Yasyāntaṁ na viduḥ surāsura-gaṇa devāya tasmai namaḥ. Devāya,* that Supreme Lord, we simply offer our respectful obeisance. It is not possible to know perfectly what is the potency and energy of God. The atheists, they do not know at all. But theists, devotees, they know, but that is not complete. Even Kṛṣṇa does not know how much powerful He is. That is called unlimited. --- **[1973: Lecture](spoken/1973/730921le.bom)** > Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *na māṁ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ*. Only these classes of men: *duṣkṛtina,* always engaged in sinful activities; *mūḍha,* rascal... *Na māṁ duṣkṛtino mūḍhāḥ prapadyante narādhamāḥ,* and lowest of the mankind. Because human life is meant for worshiping Kṛṣṇa. Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura sings, *hari hari! bifale janama goṅāinu* [*Iṣṭa-deve Vijñapti* 1]: "My life is spoiled." Why? *Manuṣya-janama pāiyā, rādhā-kṛṣṇa nā bhajiyā, jāniyā śuniyā viṣa khāinu.* So we are trying to stop drinking poison knowingly. > These M.A., Ph.D.'s will not help me. Śaṅkarācārya said, *na hi na hi rakṣati ḍukṛñ-karaṇe:* "By your grammatical jugglery of words nonsense, you cannot be saved." *Bhaja govindaṁ bhaja govindaṁ bhaja govindaṁ mūḍha-mate:* "You rascal, just engage yourself in the loving service of Govinda." This is Śaṅkarācārya's advice, although he was impersonalist. Kṛṣṇa says that "Who does not worship Me," *naradhāma, māyayāpahṛta-jñānā,* "they have no knowledge." Because if he remains in the real point a rascal, then what is the value of his knowledge? There is no knowledge. Therefore *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān māṁ prapadyate*. --- **[1973: Room Conversation with American Banker](spoken/1973/730921r2.bom)** >technology, although it is a problem. But we can supply this technology to solve this problem. *Jarā-maraṇa-mokṣāya mām... Jarā-maraṇa-mokṣāya*. [break]...modern technologist, scientist, they do not know what is the perfection of life. Now they are thinking that having a big building, possessing big building and possessing a few cars and nice bank balance, that is perfection of life. But suppose you get a very nice home, very nice big bank balance, and other amenities, but there is every possibility that as soon as you prepare all these things, you have to go away immediately—death. There is no guarantee that "After finishing this job, I shall be able to enjoy these things." > There is a lame man and there is a blind man. The lame man cannot walk, and the blind man cannot see. They should join. The blind man took the lame man on his shoulder, and the lame man giving direction, and the blind man is going nicely. So by the cooperation of the blind and the lame, the work is done perfectly. *Andha-kañjatā-nyāya.* Similarly, it is not required that everyone has to become *brāhmaṇa.* Neither it is possible. So if the *brāhmaṇa* and the *śūdra* combine together, work, then both their lives will be perfect. Here you cannot expect everyone as *brāhmaṇa,* in this material world. That is not possible. Because in the material world three qualities are working. So one may be *brāhmaṇa,* another may be *kṣatriya,* another may be *vaiśya,* another... So they should cooperate. Then everyone's life will be perfect. That is the program. That is *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ*. --- **[1976: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.7.24](spoken/1976/760921sb.vrn)** > Anādir ādiḥ.* He's *ādi, ādyaṁ puruṣam.* But if you question, "Who is the cause of Kṛṣṇa?" *Anādi—*He has no cause. That is God. You go on searching after, one after another. I am. My origin is my father; my father's origin is his father; his father's origin; his father, his father... In this way you go on researching. Then come to Brahmā. Brahmā is *ādi-kavi.* In this material world, in this universe, *ādi-kavi. Tene brahma hṛdā ādi-kavaye*. So he's the *ādi,* original, first created being. Then who is his *ādi*? Wherefrom Brahmā is coming? That is Kṛṣṇa. *Tene brahma hṛdā ādi-kavaye.* So in this way, when you come to Kṛṣṇa, making a... Brahmā is coming from Viṣṇu, Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. Svayambhū: he's born of the lotus flower. That Garbhodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is coming from Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu. And Kāraṇodakaśāyī Viṣṇu is coming from Saṅkarṣaṇa. Saṅkarṣaṇa is coming from Aniruddha; Aniruddha from Pradyumna, like that. Ultimately*—*Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Kṛṣṇa is *ādyam.* And Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat*. There is no more. So that is God. You go on researching, researching, *ādyam, ādyam, ādyam—*when you come to a point there is no more *ādyam,* that is God. > Therefore *śāstra* says that you are conditioned. You cannot change the condition. So there is no need of endeavoring for changing the condition. That is not possible. *Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā*, Kṛṣṇa says. *Māyā, mama māyā duratyayā.* It is not that... Suppose if you are in the prisonhouse, you are shackled. You cannot improve your condition. You must be shackled. You are put in a cell, you must live there. Similarly, this is useless effort. The so-called *māyā-mohita-cetasaḥ,* the whole material world is like that. They're trying to improve the condition. But that is not possible. Therefore they're called *māyā-mohita-cetasaḥ.* Simply he's thinking that "If I do like this, if I go a step forward, I shall improve my condition." No. That is not possible. Again and again. --- ## Letters on September 21 *Letters from this day: 12* --- **[1970: Letter to Harivilas](letters/1970/700921_harivilas)** > Sriman Hanuman has already arrived here in Calcutta and from the pictures he has shown me of your temple and devotees I can understand that everything is going on very nicely there. --- **[1970: Letter to Isana Vibhavati](letters/1970/700921_isana_vibhavati)** > Lately there has been some misunderstanding amongst our devotees about our Krishna Consciousness philosophy. --- **[1970: Letter to Ksirodakasayi](letters/1970/700921_ksirodakasayi)** > Regarding arranging your tour, you should make your plans as you think best.
