**Prabhupāda:** [indistinct] ...don't know how they are becoming entangled, by this continues change of material body. That is defect of the modern civilization. *Kleśada āsa dehaḥ* [[sb/5/5/4|[SB. 5.5.4] ]]. *Kleśada.* Any material body, that is... *kleśada*.
*Kleśa* means "pains." *Da, da* means "killing." Any material body, it doesn't matter [indistinct], it is troublesome. They do not know. They try to get out of trouble, but the real trouble is covering him. He does not know. Just like the deer, they grow musk on their navel.
**Prabhupāda:** By the smell, they become mad: "Where is that smell? Where is that smell? Where is that smell?" Mad. But he does not know that the smell is within his navel. Similarly these rascals, they are trying to make solution of the problem. But the rascal does not know that the problem is this material body.

**Prabhupāda:[*Govindam* prayers playing; sings along] [leads singing of *Jaya Rādhā-Mādhava*]* [*prema-dhvani*]* Thank you very much.
**Devotees:** All glories to Śrīla Prabhupāda. **[obeisances] [05:30] [break]Pradyumna: ...lation: "O brāhmaṇas, the ninth incarnation of the Lord, prayed for by sages, was King Pṛthu, who cultivated the land to yield various produces, and for that reason the earth was beautiful and attractive."[[sb/1/3/14|[SB. 1.3.14] ]]
**Prabhupāda:** So this refers to King Pṛthu, Mahārāja Pṛthu. So his father's name was King Veṇa. And his father's name was... I don't remember. Perhaps Aṅga, like that. So the Veṇa's father married one woman, she was the daughter of Death; means the family was not very good. So as a result of this marriage, a son was born whose name was Veṇa, who came out to be first-class rogue.

**Prabhupāda:** *...kaṇḍūtivan manasijaṁ viṣaheta dhīraḥ* [[sb/7/9/45|[SB. 7.9.45] ]]. Dhīras tatra na muhyati* [[bg/2/13|[Bg. 2.13] ]]. If you can quote *ślokas,* that will be first class. In India especially. In your country they do not care. Our Bhavānanda Swami, because he could not quote *śloka,* so he was saying, "Oh, because you have quoted some *śloka,* it is authorized?" [chuckles] He was saying like that. Western people, they cannot imagine that by quoting a Vedic version it becomes immediately authorized. They cannot imagine.
**Prabhupāda:** They don't accept any authority. Therefore they are changing Bible also, according to their whims. They don't accept authority. Therefore father..., son goes out of home. This is the basic principle of Western civilization. They don't accept any authority. Everyone is his own authority. Now that contamination has come here. And nobody can be authority also, because if I accept somebody authority, he has not followed authority, so how he can be authority? Do you follow? Suppose if somebody respects his father, but father never followed any authority. So actually father is not authority. What do they say, authority? Organized religion? They protest organized religion? What is that?
**Prabhupāda:** So nobody's now actually... This Christian world, they do not care for any Pope. Hmm. What do you think? And what is this Pope? He's simply a post. He has no knowledge. Otherwise, how he can tolerate? People are going against Bible. But the Pope does not understand that the in the Bible clearly it is said, "Thou shall not kill"? If he does not understand the simple truth, then how he can become the head of his... So what is interpretation of the Pope?

**Prabhupāda:** ...*prayateta kovida. Kovida* means very intelligent person, not rascals, fools. *Kovida,* very expert. *Kovida. Tasyaiva hetoḥ* *prayateta:* "He should endeavor for that thing." What is that "that thing"? *Na labhyate yad bhramatām upary adaḥ:* "Which is never happened to be achieved, although in different forms of life I have traveled in different planets, transmigration, but I could not get that." So in this human form of life, *tasyaiva hetoḥ,* which I did not get in so many lives... That means Kṛṣṇa. *Tasyaiva hetoḥ prayateta kovido na labhyate yad bhramatām upary adaḥ* [[sb/1/5/18|[SB. 1.5.18] ]].
*Uparyadaḥ. Upari* means higher planetary system; *adaḥ,* down planetary system. "Then? Simply I shall work for that purpose? Then what about my belly?" People are always... Whole world is embarrassed how to fulfill the belly. Eh? That economic question, this question, that question, philanthropism, this "ism," that "ism," the whole thing is centered round this belly. So one may question, "Then all things should be stopped?" Yes, all things will be stopped. Kṛṣṇa said, *sarva-dharmān parityajya* [[bg/18/66|[Bg. 18.66] ]]. "Then the problem... How shall I eat? How shall I become happy?" So *śāstra* says, *tal labhyate duḥkhavad anyataḥ sukhaṁ kalenā sarvatra gabhīra-raṁhasā.* You are trying for getting happiness, satisfaction, but you do not try for distress. So why the distress comes?
**Prabhupāda:** So if distress come automatically, then happiness also will come automatically. Why should you try for this so-called distress and happiness? You try for Kṛṣṇa. This is life. Just like the other day your liver fractured?

**Harikeśa:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* *Second Chapter, sixteenth verse.* [leads chanting of verse, etc.]* *gurūṇāṁ ca laghūnāṁ ca
**[break] [02:01]Prabhupāda:** > gurūṇāṁ ca laghūnāṁ ca > gurūṇi ca laghūni ca > prāyaścittāni pāpānāṁ > jñātvā uktāni maharṣibhiḥ > [[sb/6/2/16|[SB. 6.2.16] ]]
So sinful activities, it is punishable. You cannot violate the laws of nature. *Prakṛti* is very strong. *Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā* [[bg/7/14|[Bg. 7.14] ]]. Just like the government has police department, military department, law courts. Why? Because not all the citizens they are good citizens. There are many outlaws. So more or less, whoever is in this material world, they are outlaws. Outlaw means they do not abide by the laws of nature, and therefore they are punishable.
