# September 19 ## Spoken on September 19 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1966: Bhagavad-gītā 6.40–43](spoken/1966/660919bg.ny.md)** > So in the pious family or in the rich family, there is chance of degradation. But one who takes his birth in a family of *yogī,* devotee, oh, he has got better chance for cultivating the same spiritual culture from which in his past life he had fallen. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *etad dhi durlabhataram:* "This is very rare, that a man gets his birth, a parent, a *yogī.*" This is very rare. But He recommends, I mean, He eulogizes this sort of family that... What is the facility of this family? Now, Lord says, *tatra taṁ buddhi-saṁyogaṁ labhate paurva-dehikam* : > So Kṛṣṇa says that "My dear Arjuna," *na hi kalyāṇa-kṛt kaścid durgatim,* "anyone who has attempted even one percent sincerely culture of spiritual realization, he will never fall down." "He will never fall down." That sincerity. Because we are weak, and the material energy is very strong, so to adopt spiritual life is more or less declare war against the material energy. The material..., the illusory energy, she is trying to curb this conditioned soul as far as possible. Now, when the conditioned soul tries to get out of her clutches by spiritual advancement of knowledge, oh, she becomes more stringent. Yes. She wants to test, "How much this person is sincere?" So there will be so many allurement offered by the material energy. --- **[1971: Lecture on Śrī Śrī Gurv-aṣṭaka](spoken/1971/710919le.nai)** > Kṛṣṇa says that in this way, by gradual evolutionary process from the *karmī's* platform, the *jñānī* platform, from the *jñānī* platform to *yogī* platform and from *yogī* platform to *bhakta* platform, in this way, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān mām prapadyate*. Actually, when one is wise*, jñānī—jñānavān* means wise—he surrenders to the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante jñānavān mām prapadyate*. > Therefore our aim should be, as it is indicated by Prahlāda Mahārāja, *na te viduḥ svārtha-gatiṁ hi viṣṇuṁ*. We should know that our aim of life should be to understand what is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That is our aim. We should make all arrangement—social, political or philosophical, religious, whatever you like—you make all adjustment, but the aim should be how to approach the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Visnu. In the *Vedas* also it is said, *oṁ tad viṣṇoḥ paramaṁ padaṁ sadā paśyanti sūrayaḥ* [*Ṛg Veda* 1.22.20]. --- **[1972: Morning Walk](spoken/1972/720919mw.la)** > Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti*. You don't get any more material body. That is real protection. If you are protected for fifty years and next life become a dog, so what is your position? That is not protection. But this culture is giving you protection for future, eternally. Be Kṛṣṇa conscious and be protected for good. Therefore Kṛṣṇa... Hey? > There are varieties of bodies, 8,400,000 species of..., varieties of bodies, and is given chance: "All right, enjoy this." Want this car? "All right, take this car." So he does not know that this car is troublesome. He doesn't know. He is trying to solve the problem otherwise. His real trouble is birth, death, old age and disease due to this body, and he is suffering continuously three kinds of miserable condition. But he does not know that "Due to this body I am suffering. So how to stop this acceptance of material body?" That is all. What do you say, Mr. Scientist? --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.3.14](spoken/1972/720919sb.la)** > But God is not so cheap. He is cheap, very cheap. He is very kind. But we want to remain sinful. Therefore we cannot see God. Arjuna addressed Kṛṣṇa, *paraṁ dhāma paraṁ brahma pavitraṁ paramaṁ bhavān* : "You are the most pure." So how you can approach God with sinful life? That is not possible. That is simply bogus thing, that you keep your sinful life, at the same time you want to see God, you want to talk with God. That is not possible. > Then one day all the *brāhmaṇas* and the sages, they came to give him instruction: "My dear king, it is not your duty to stop all kinds of religious activities." Just like the Communist government. Yes. But who hears? He said, "No. Why you are trying to pacify God? I am God. You just act. If you are actually God conscious, then you act according to my order." So when the sages and *brāhmaṇas* became disgusted, he was killed by the *brāhmaṇas,* by their order. You see? The *brāhmaṇas* were so strong, by simply cursing, they could kill anyone. --- **[1973: Room Conversation](spoken/1973/730919r1.bom)** > So *brahma-jijñāsā* is not for everyone. *Brahma-jijñāsā...* For *brahma-jijñāsā* one should make a *guru,* not for any material welfare. If I get some money, if some *guru* gives me some money, some gold, I think he is Bhagavān, because I am attached to this gold and material things. That is not *śreya.* But people like that. If somebody by miracles give you some money, some gold, they think, "Oh, here is God. Here is God. Here is God." But that is not *śreya.* And if gold is the standard of happiness, then... There are many persons, Birlas and others, they possess huge stock of gold. Does it mean that they will not die? They will not suffer from disease? But foolish persons, they think, "If I get some gold, then I'll be happy." And that is foolishness. Nothing material will make you happy. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says real happiness means to approach Him. *Māṁ hi pārtha vyapāśritya*. No? What is that? *Duḥkhālayam aśāśvatam nāpnuvanti mahātmānaḥ*. Find out this verse. *Duḥkhālayam aśāś..., māṁ...* The second line you can find out. > So in this way if we understand Kṛṣṇa, then we become liberated. *Janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. And this *tattvataḥ* is very significant. How you can know Kṛṣṇa as He is, in truth? That is also explained: *bhaktyā mām abhijānāti yāvān yaś cāsmi tattvataḥ*. If you want to understand Kṛṣṇa in *tattva,* in fact, in truth, then you have to adopt this process of *bhakti.* Not *jñāna,* not *yoga,* not *karma. Karma, jñāna, yoga, bhakti.* So Kṛṣṇa is understandable simply by *bhakti,* not by other methods. Not by *karma,* not by *jñāna,* not by *yoga.* Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante*. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750919mw.vrn)** > Uparyadaḥ. Upari* means higher planetary system; *adaḥ,* down planetary system. "Then? Simply I shall work for that purpose? Then what about my belly?" People are always... Whole world is embarrassed how to fulfill the belly. Eh? That economic question, this question, that question, philanthropism, this "ism," that "ism," the whole thing is centered round this belly. So one may question, "Then all things should be stopped?" Yes, all things will be stopped. Kṛṣṇa said, *sarva-dharmān parityajya*. "Then the problem... How shall I eat? How shall I become happy?" So *śāstra* says, *tal labhyate duḥkhavad anyataḥ sukhaṁ kalenā sarvatra gabhīra-raṁhasā.* You are trying for getting happiness, satisfaction, but you do not try for distress. So why the distress comes? --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.2.16](spoken/1975/750919sb.vrn)** > "Every step there is *vipada*." You cannot be excused. Because you are killing one ant unconsciously while walking, your name is noted. Your ticket is immediately there: "Oh, you have killed so many ants." The law is so nice. *Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi*. Automatically it is recorded, automatically, and you have to suffer. So then what to do? If the situation is like that, how to save? Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *yajñārthe karmaṇa anyatra karma-bandhanaḥ*. > So Kṛṣṇa comes. *Yadā yadā hi dharmasya glānir bhavati bhārata, tadātmānaṁ sṛjāmy aham*. This is the process. Every living entity is part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. He belongs to the Kṛṣṇa's family. Kṛṣṇa's family. This is our original position. Vṛndāvana means whole Kṛṣṇa's family. Even the birds, beast, trees, plants, water—all belong to the Kṛṣṇa's family. *Advaya-jñāna.* [the nondual absolute truth\–Cc Ādi 2.65] Therefore anything in Vṛndāvana is as good as Kṛṣṇa. Even the dust of Vṛndāvana is as good as Kṛṣṇa. This is the philosophy, Absolute Truth. So Kṛṣṇa, out of His causeless mercy, He comes. At a certain interval during one day of Brahmā, He comes. He exhibits His *līlā,* that "Anyone who desires to go back to home, back to Godhead, they can enjoy with Me like this." This is Kṛṣṇa's mission. "Come on. Why you are playing here and suffering this *māyā's* play? Come to the real play." This is Kṛṣṇa's mission. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti kaunteya*. Kṛṣṇa comes: "Just try to understand Me, why I come." --- ## Letters on September 19 *Letters from this day: 26* --- **[1955: Letter to Gosvami Maharaja](letters/1947-1965/550919_gosvami_maharaja)** > I understand that you have written to Sripada Akincana Maharaja to print the paper 500 only for September.
