So we have been discussing the talks between Śukadeva Gosvāmī and Mahārāja Parīkṣit. The question is that how one can be delivered from the miserable condition of hellish life. The nature's illusory methods are two kinds: one is covering energy, and another is throwing energy. Nature is acting upon us in two ways. Just like somebody may think that "Here is a nice movement, Kṛṣṇa conscious movement. Let me take part in this." And nature dictates, "Why shall you go there? Don't go there. Better enjoy like this." This is throwing energy. Throws him from the path.

This is a verse instructed by Mahārāja Ṛṣabhadeva to His sons. Mahārāja Ṛṣabhadeva was incarnation of Kṛṣṇa, Vāsudeva, long, long years ago. And He was the emperor of the whole world. Formerly there was only one king on this planet. In every planet there is a predominating personality. In every... Not only this planet; all other planets also. And the predominating deity, or you may call the king or emperor, in the moon planet he is called Candra.

So Prahlāda Mahārāja is recommending how to begin *bhakti-yoga*. *Bhakti-yoga*, the first beginning, *ādau gurvāśrayam*, as Rūpa Gosvāmī recommends. *Ādau gurvāśrayam*, the beginning, first beginning is to accept a bona fide spiritual master. *Ādau gurvāśrayam. Sad-dharma-pṛcchat*.
*Sad-dharma-pṛcchat*. So it is not that official accepting a spiritual master, but one should be very much inquisitive to understand about eternal duty, or eternal activity. *Sad-dharma. Sat* means eternal, and *dharma* means characteristics. Eternal characteristics.
What is that eternal characteristics? With this body, we change our characteristics. That is not eternal characteristics. Just like a human body. The standard of living of a human being and the standard of living of an animal, different. As the body changes, the standard of living also changes. Therefore they are not eternal. They are not eternal. Everyone is trying to live, struggle for existence, but these living conditions are different according to the body.

**Prabhupāda:** You're [indistinct]. Just write here. 'ta'. By moving his hand, when it is perfect the next. So you should practice for two or three hours daily and similarly each and every student should be [indistinct]. And the class will go on for three hours. Unless he's perfect in writing the next letter should not be taught.
This is the process. So you will have to fill up this and see it to the teacher, show it to the teacher whether it is perfect or not. This is the way, similarly ABCD, 1 2 3, everything should be written and you must know this is 1, this is 2, and at the end of the class they should chant. Just like two multiplied by two equal to four, chant it.
**Prabhupāda:** Like that, up to 10. Two into two, two into three, two into four, they should learn, immediately they will say. So that when they multiply by practice immediately two and two is four. At the end of the class this should be, chant for half an hour. Chanting, multiplications. Practice it, similarly daily two, three pages every each student should write and the teacher should see whether it is right and sign, yes it is all right.

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. [leads chanting of verse, etc.] [Prabhupāda and devotees repeat]
**Pradyumna:** *loka-hitam*—beneficial for all men; *nṛpa*—the king; *ātmavit*—transcendentalist; *sammataḥ*—approved; *puṁsām*—of all men; *śrotavyādiṣu*—in the matter of all kinds of hearing; *yaḥ*—what is; *paraḥ*—the supreme.

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.*
**Translation:** "Thus far I have declared to you the analytical knowledge of sāṅkhya philosophy. Now listen to the knowledge of yoga whereby one works without fruitive result. O son of Pṛthā, when you act by such intelligence, you can free yourself from the bondage of works."

**Reporter (1):** I wonder if I could ask you first of all to tell me what is the central point of the teaching of *Bhagavad-gītā?*
**Prabhupāda:** Central point is to understand God. People have become so foolish. They have forgotten to know about God, know about himself, what he is. Everyone is under the impression that "I am this body," which he's not. He's spirit soul. They're so much in ignorance, and there is no education. Even big, big professors. Professor Kotovsky, in Russia, he told me, "Swāmījī, after this body's finished, everything is finished." That is not the fact.
**Prabhupāda:** The profit means you'll be saved from the material existence. Material existence means repetition of birth, death, old age and disease.

**Pradyumna:** [**Chants sloka.] > tad-vāg-visargo janatāgha-viplavo > yasmin prati-ślokam abaddhavaty api nāmāny anantasya yaśo 'ṅkitāni yat śṛṇvanti gāyanti gṛṇanti sādhavaḥ* [[sb/1/5/11|[SB. 1.5.11] ]]
**Translation:** "On the other hand, that literature which is full of descriptions of the transcendental glories of the name, fame, forms, pastimes, etc., of the unlimited Supreme Lord is a different creation,
...full of transcendental words directed toward bringing about a revolution in the impious lives of this world's misdirected civilization. Such transcendental literatures, even though imperfectly composed, are heard, sung and accepted by purified men who are thoroughly honest." [[sb/1/5/11|[SB. 1.5.11] ]]

[break] ...in the field, that this program for constructing toilet in the village, they have spent so much. You know that?
**Prabhupāda:** The first business was toilet. To restrict them to pass stool here and there, they must have. Now in constructing that toilet paraphernalia, [aside:] [Transl. On the desk. Take it away.], they... Therefore it failed, village organization. Not for that purpose. There were many purpose. Because they had no engagement, so why they should remain in the village? There are so many attraction in the city, and they get money. The factory-*wallas,* they're inviting, "Come here. You shall get twenty rupees per day." Why shall he remain in the village? So if you can organize in the villages, they are interested in chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra* and getting nice *prasādam,* then... One must have some attachment. In the city there are so many artificial attachments. So on what ground they'll remain in the village? Mind..., always remember this. Unless you have got some attachment, there is no possibility. Gandhi's program was very nice, village organize so that they may not come to the city and help the capitalists. Remain satisfied in the village. But where is that satisfaction? That is the failure.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. If they could understand that "That will be helpful if you chant." Therefore Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's statement will never be false. *Ceto-darpaṇa-mārjanam* [[cc/antya/20/12|[Cc. Antya 20.12] ]]. If they chant Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra,* then gradually the dirty things accumulated within the heart will be cleansed. And if he comes to the understanding, clear idea, that "I want to eat something, and my necessities... So if I get my necessities, primary necessities of life, and satisfaction of mind, then why shall I go to the city?" That they can have very easily. If they follow the instruction of *Bhagavad-gītā,* that "Your first necessity is food..." So produce food here. *Kṛṣi-go-rakṣya-vāṇijyam* [[bg/18/44|[Bg. 18.44] ]]. And you'll find here so much land is lying vacant, because they have gone to the city for twenty rupees daily to manufacture Goodyear tire. And who will work here? Now I have seen in Delhi, the government is advertising, "Go back to the village."

**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. *[devotees repeat] *[leads chanting of verse and synonyms responsively]*
**Translation:** "When the respective warriors of both camps, namely the Kauravas and the Pāṇḍavas, were killed on the Battlefield of Kurukṣetra, and the dead warriors obtained their deserved destinations, and when the son of Dhṛtarāṣṭra fell down lamenting, his spine broken, being beaten by the club of Bhīmasena, the son of Droṇācārya [Aśvatthāmā] beheaded the five sleeping sons of Draupadī and delivered them as a prize to his master, foolishly thinking that he would be pleased. Duryodhana, however, disapproved of the heinous act, and he was not pleased in the least."
