# September 7 *Lectures from this day: 12 recordings* --- **[[spoken/660907bg.ny|Bg 6.11-21 — September 7, 1966, New York]]** **Prabhupāda:** In India there are some selected places, very sacred place, and the *yogīs,* generally they go there and sit there alone in a sacred place and, as prescribed in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* and perform there. *Yoga..., yoga-āsana* cannot be executed in a public place, so that in assembly. Now, so far this *kīrtana* is concerned... Just like we have performed just now *kīrtana,* this is called *saṅkīrtana. Saṅkīrtana* means *bahubhir militvā kīrtayati iti saṅkīrtanam.* When we sit down, many people together. When Lord Caitanya was performing this *kīrtana* ceremony five hundred years before, He had in each group sixteen persons taking part in *kīrtana,* and thousands and thousands of people were singing with them. Now, this participation in the *kīrtana* is very easily possible. But so far the *yoga* system is concerned, that is required any very secluded and sacred place, silent. That is required. It is clearly said here that *śucau deśe..., śucau deśe pratiṣṭhāpya sthiram āsanam ātmanaḥ* [[bg/6/11|[Bg. 6.11] ]]. One has to place himself in a sacred place, in a silent place; then *yoga* system is possible. Now, comparatively, at the present moment, if you have to practice *yoga,* then strictly, according to the rules and regulation, you have to leave your home, you have to go out in a secluded place, in a sacred place, and there you have to execute the performance of meditation and *yoga*. At home it is not possible. So far *Bhagavad-gītā* is concerned, it is a book of authority. It is recommended here that you should find out a place, suitable place for executing *yoga.* But here, this is also *yoga.* This is called *bhakti-yoga.* --- **[[spoken/690907sb.ham|SB 7.9.19 — September 7, 1969, Hamburg]]** **Prabhupāda:** > ...majjato nauḥ > taptasya tat-pratividhir ya ihāñjaseṣṭas > tāvad tanu-bhrtāṁ tvad-upekṣitānām > [[sb/7/9/19|[SB. 7.9.19] ]] Prahlāda Mahārāja says... He's praying to Lord Nṛsiṁha. He says, *bālasya neha śaraṇaṁ pitarau nṛsiṁha:* "My dear Lord, it is not that the parents can give all protection to the children." *Nārtasya cāgadam:* "Neither the physician and the medicine can give protection to a patient." *Nārtasya cāgadam udanvati majjato nauḥ:* "Neither a nice ship or boat can give protection to the drowning man." *Taptasya yat pratividhir:* "There are many devices for giving protection to different kinds of dangerous position. But they will be useless if, my dear Lord, You neglect him." For example, there are many children who have got their parents, but they are suffering. There are many patients who are being treated by first-class medical assistants and physician, but he is dying. Similarly, there are various means invented by modern science to give protection to the people, but they become useless without the attention of the Supreme Lord. For example, in our country, in India, we thought that by independence we shall be very, very happy. But actually, when we have got independence, our position has become more precarious. --- **[[spoken/710907in.lon|Initiation Lecture [partially recorded] — September 7, 1971, London]]** **Prabhupāda:** So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement... They are trying to go to the nature. Just like there is a propaganda, nature means to become animal. They live like animals, naked. They have sex life on the street. They say it is freedom. But the rascals do not know there is no freedom at all. Where is freedom? So long you are under the grip of material nature, *janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi* [[bg/13/9|[Bg. 13.9] ]], where is freedom? By nature does not mean that you have got freedom. There is no freedom. We are all conditioned. Simply falsely we are thinking of freedom. It requires little brain. Where is freedom? Nobody wants to die, and where is the freedom not to die? Who has got the freedom? Nobody wants to become old, and where is the freedom? Everyone becomes old. But I have got the desire. Even old man, old woman tries to remain young by cosmetic help, to be good looking, and where is the freedom? By nature he is becoming bad looking. Nobody wants to become old; he's becoming old. Nobody wants to take birth... Of course, that is very higher stage. *Jñānī,* they want *mukti;* that is also not possible. Otherwise why Kṛṣṇa says, *bahūnāṁ janmanām ante* [[bg/7/19|[Bg. 7.19] ]]? To stop death, to stop birth is not possible unless one comes to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Unless one [sic] does not come to the position of loving Kṛṣṇa, there's no question of freedom. That is the nature's law. --- **[[spoken/720907sb.nv|SB 1.2.9 — September 7, 1972, New Vrindavan]]** --- **[[spoken/730907bg.sto|Bg 18.41 — September 7, 1973, Stockholm]]** **Prabhupāda:** > brāhmaṇa-kṣatriya-viśāṁ > śūdrāṇāṁ ca paran-tapa > karmāṇi pravibhaktāni > svabhāva-prabhavair guṇaiḥ > [[bg/18/41|[Bg. 18.41] ]] I shall try to explain the social structure of the human society as they are described in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* In previous chapters Śrī Kṛṣṇa has explained: *cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ guṇa-karma-vibhāgaśaḥ* [[bg/4/13|[Bg. 4.13] ]]. By quality and by work, there is, or there must be, four divisions of the social structure. *Cātur-varṇyam:* first class, second class, third class and fourth class. That is very natural. Just like in your body, my body, is divided into four divisions. The head, head department. In every, I mean to say, unit, there is head department, the first-class department, the second-class department. So we can understand from our own body, there is head department, there is arms department, there is belly department and there is the leg department. So head is first class. Because if the arms, belly and legs are there and head is cut off, then everything is useless. If the head is there, arm is cut off, you can go on with your business. --- **[[spoken/730907le.sto|Lecture at Uppsala University Faculty, Bhagavad-gītā 13.1 — September 7, 1973, Stockholm]]** **Prabhupāda:** So I shall try to discuss *Bhagavad-gītā,* Thirteenth Chapter, in which nature, the enjoyer, and consciousness is described.* [[bg/13/1|[Bg. 13.1] ]] *Śrī arjuna uvāca.* Arjuna belonged to the royal family of the Pāṇḍavas, and he was friend of Kṛṣṇa. So there was a fight between two groups of cousin-brothers, the Kauravas and the Pāṇḍavas. So Arjuna... Kṛṣṇa was requested by both the parties to join either of them, but Kṛṣṇa decided not to take part in the fighting because both of them were equally related to Him. So after all, Kṛṣṇa divided His soldiers one side and Himself another side with the condition that if He joins, then He would not fight. So Arjuna preferred to take Kṛṣṇa on his side, and the other party, Duryodhana, he decided to take Kṛṣṇa's soldiers. So while just the fighting was to begin, Arjuna declined to fight because the other party were all his relatives, friends, brothers, brothers' son, nephew, teacher and grandfather. So Arjuna took compassion, that "I don't want victory. Better not to fight." So that is the cause of describing the science of *Bhagavad-gītā* before Arjuna, just to induce him to act as a dutiful soldier. This is the background of *Bhagavad-gītā.* --- **[[spoken/730907sb.sto|SB 5.5.1-2 — September 7, 1973, Stockholm]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [leads chanting of verse, etc.][**Prabhupāda and **devotees repeat] --- **[[spoken/750907sb.vrn|SB 6.2.3 — September 7, 1975, Vṛndāvana]]** **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] **Sixth Canto of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,*Second Chapter, verse number three.* [leads chanting of verse, etc.]* *prajānāṁ pitaro ye ca **[break] [02:11]Prabhupāda:** > prajānāṁ pitaro ye ca > śāstāraḥ sādhavaḥ samāḥ > yadi syāt teṣu vaiṣamyaṁ > kaṁ yānti śaraṇaṁ prajāḥ > [[sb/6/2/3|[SB. 6.2.3] ]] --- **[[spoken/760907g1.vrn|Garden Conversation — September 7, 1976, Vṛndāvana]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...of United Nation.* [Transl. There are so many vairāgīs. Markaṭa. Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura has said, eo 'ta eka *kalira-celā*: here is a disciple of Kali. *Nāke tilaka galāi mālā*: but has got a *tilaka* on the forehead and neckbeads on the neck, but is *kalira-celā*, number one disciple of Kali. [*Bāula-saṅgīta* Song 6. Text 1] You know this song? This is going on. *Kalira-celā*. These persons who are committing sinful life—don't say anyone [laughs] or publish—there will be trouble. But that's a fact. Those who are living in Vṛndāvana and acting like monkey, they'll get next life a monkey, to remain in Vṛndāvana, and then next life they will be liberated. In one life all their sinful activities will be punished. Because as soon as animal life is obtained, there is no more further record of the sinful life. The animals cannot make sinful activities more than what is destined by him. But their sinful activity is not taken into account. For this man who is offered this monkey's body, he suffers the inconvenience of monkey life. So his sinful activities are counteracted, and because he came to Vṛndāvana and lived in Vṛndāvana by the mercy of Rādhārāṇī, next life he will be... That is the glory of Vṛndāvana-dhāma. Otherwise, what is the explanation of these dogs and hogs and monkeys in Vṛndāvana? If it is *dhāma-aparādha,* committing offense in *dhāma... Dhāma-aparādha.* As *dhāma-bhajana,* if one undergoes devotional service out of Vṛndāvana and one executes devotional service in Vṛndāvana, that is hundred times better. Similarly, *dhāma-aparādha* also. This *aparādha,* when offense is committed outside Vṛndāvana, that is not so grievous as committing offense in Vṛndāvana. *Dhāma-aparādha.* So the punishment is there, but the reward is also there. One life makes pardoned. *Tat te 'nukampāṁ su-samīkṣamāṇo bhuñjāna evātma-kṛtaṁ vipākam* [[sb/10/14/8|[SB. 10.14.8] ]]. Therefore a devotee in a reverse condition of life, he understands that "I am punished, little punished for my previous mischievous activities. So now I am becoming liberated." So he becomes more enthused to worship the Lord, that "You are finishing my sinful reaction of life with slight punishment. Thank you very much." This is devotee. *Tat te 'nukampāṁ su-samīkṣamāṇaḥ.* --- **[[spoken/760907sb.vrn|SB 1.7.8 — September 7, 1976, Vṛndāvana]]** **Pradyumna:*Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.
