**Prabhupāda:** > kaumāra ācaret prājño > dharmān bhāgavatān iha > durlabhaṁ mānuṣaṁ janma > tad apy adhruvam arthadam > [[sb/7/6/1|[SB. 7.6.1] ]]
I am reciting some verses from *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* is the essence of Vedic literature. It is said, *nigama-kalpa-taror galitaṁ phalam idam* [[sb/1/1/3|[SB. 1.1.3] ]]. Just like a big tree. What is the essential thing in the big tree? That is the fruit. Suppose a mango tree, big mango tree. But what we want from the mango tree? The mango. And if the mango is ripened, still, it is very nice. So it is compared, *nigama-kalpa-taror galitaṁ phalam* [[sb/1/1/3|[SB. 1.1.3] ]]. Nigama* means Vedic literature.

**Pradyumna:** > mahat-sevāṁ dvāram āhur vimuktes > tamo-dvāraṁ yoṣitāṁ saṅgi-saṅgam > mahāntas te sama-cittāḥ praśāntā > vimanyavaḥ...

**Prabhupāda:** ...and *tapasya* begins, *brahmacarya*. *Brahmacarya*. *Brahmacarya* means completely cessation from sex life. This is *brahmacarya*. *Tapasyā* begins, austerity. This is the greatest austerity, to cease sex. *Tapasā brahmacaryena.* [[sb/6/1/13|[SB. 6.1.13] ]] *Our Vedic civilization, the boys are trained how to become *brahmacārī* from the very beginning of life.**Indian:** [Transl. **These things can only be practiced in the *gurukula*.]Prabhupāda: Hah.
[break] ...*putrakā yena śuddhyet sattva.* Our existentional position should be purified. How? *Tapo.* By *tapasya. Tapo divyaṁ putrakā yena śuddhyet sattva* [[sb/5/5/1|[SB. 5.5.1] ]]. "And we are enjoying life. Why we should undergo *tapasya?*" And you are enjoying, but you are not enjoying; you are suffering. Even if you think that you are enjoying, there are so many sufferings. That, the foolish people, they do not know. Just like a healthy man, he thinks, "I am enjoying," but he does not see that even he is now healthy, he will be an old man, he will be attacked with disease, he will die, and still he thinks, "I am happy."
*Janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣānudarśanam* [[bg/13/9|[Bg. 13.9] ]]. Therefore the intelligent man will see that "Where is my enjoyment if I am going to die? I don't want to die, but I am going to die." That is sure, as sure as anything. And still the rascal will think that "I am happy." He will become old man, he will be attacked with disease, and still he is thinking that he is happy. Apart from this, there are so many other sufferings, but he thinks that he is happy. And that happiness is centered around sex. That's all. *Yan maithunadi-gṛhamedhi-sukhaṁ hi tuccham* [[sb/7/9/45|[SB. 7.9.45] ]]. Their only happiness is sex. Therefore in the Western countries they are simply trying to increase the sex enjoyment. That's all. Is it not?

**Prabhupāda:** Begin.Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] Sixth Canto, Second Chapter, verse number 2. *[leads chanting of verse, etc.]*
**[break] [02:16]Prabhupāda:** > śrī-viṣṇudūtā ūcuḥ > aho kaṣṭaṁ dharma-dṛśām > adharmaḥ spṛśate sabhām > yatrādaṇḍyeṣv apāpeṣu > daṇḍo yair dhriyate vṛthā > [[sb/6/2/2|[SB. 6.2.2] ]]
So the conversation between the Yamadūta and Viṣṇudūta... So this material world is for Yamaduta, and the spiritual world is for Viṣṇudūta. We have discussed all these points. So in the material world, more or less, we are susceptible for being punished by the Yamadūtas or Yamarāja. Not all. Who are punishable? They are nondevotees, those who are sinful. So anyone who is not following the principles of religion, they are to be punished, because the human form of life is meant for executing religion—not the animals.

Svayambhūr*:* Prabhupāda, you wrote in the *Caitanya-caritāmṛta* that the *Caitanya mahā-mantra, śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu nityānanda,* there is no offense to that. And so therefore in the *Kali-yuga* it is actually more beneficial...
**Prabhupāda:** Offense is that what is spoken by the *ācāryas,* if you do not follow, that is offense. *Guror avajñā.* That is offense. To chant *gaura-nitāi* is no offense. But if our previous *gurus* have chanted *śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya prabhu nityānanda śrī-advaita*—why should we go beyond that? That is *guror avajñā.* Even there is no *aparādha,* because *guru...,* Kavirāja Gosvāmī, has sung like that, and my *guru* has sung, we should follow that. We should not make any deviation. That is *guror avajñā śruti-śāstra-nindanam. Nāmno balād yasya hi pāpa-buddhiḥ.* So it comes to be one of the items of the *daśa-vidha-aparādha. Guror avajñā.*
Svayambhūr*:* Should we consider that it's more beneficial for people to hear *bhaja śrī-kṛṣṇa-caitanya...*

**Prabhupāda:** Kṛṣṇa's *bhakti-nitya-siddha* is already there. Otherwise it was not possible to become so successful in the foreign countries. They are not fools, accepting something bogus.
**Prabhupāda:** Kṛṣṇa says, *mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat* [[bg/7/7|[Bg. 7.7] ]]: "There is nothing greater than Me." How anything can exceed Kṛṣṇa? That's all. You present Kṛṣṇa right, then Kṛṣṇa will exceed everything—any department of knowledge, any department of activity. Anything. Supreme, *parataram. Para-taram. Tara* is used—superlative. If our men become serious to distribute... Of course, it is not possible that the whole world will be Kṛṣṇa conscious, but at least they will know that there is such a thing. I may know at least there is diamond. I may not be able to purchase. That everyone can know: there is a very valuable jewel. Even though he has not seen it, still he'll appreciate that there is a very valuable jewel known as diamond. That much will also help. When he has got money, he can purchase it.
**Prabhupāda:** He has no position; he is third-class man. He has given some idea: "Here, you break it." That is the nature. And how long this work will continue? Throughout the whole life?

*Yasyāṁ vai śrūyamāṇāyām.* The *sātvata-saṁhitā,* we have already discussed yesterday morning. *Vidvāṁś cakre sātvata-saṁhitām* [[sb/1/7/6|[SB. 1.7.6] ]].* This is Vaiṣṇava. *Vidvān.* Vaiṣṇava is always *vidvān. Vid* means knowledge, and *vān* means one who has knowledge. That is called *vidvān. Vidvān.* So Vyāsadeva, he's known as Veda-vyāsa. He's the giver of Vedic knowledge. Vedic knowledge is not given by him. The Vedic knowledge is given by Kṛṣṇa Himself. *Tene brahma hṛdā ādi-kavaye* [[sb/1/1/1|[SB. 1.1.1] ]]. Kṛṣṇa, Vāsudeva, *oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya,* He gave the knowledge to Lord Brahmā. *Tene brahma hṛdā ādi-kavaye, ādi-kavi,* the original learned person. Just like this modern nonsense theory that there was in the beginning no life. But that is nonsense. In the beginning there was Brahmā, the most learned person.
So this theory, modern scientists, that there was no human being or there was no man, they are all rascal speculation. It has no value. Here we get the knowledge that originally the Vedic knowledge was given to Lord Brahmā, and from Lord Brahmā, Nārada received the knowledge, and from Nārada Vyāsadeva received the knowledge. And from Vyāsadeva, by *paramparā* disciplic succession, we have received this knowledge. The knowledge is the same. There is no alteration. Because it is coming through the *paramparā* system there is no breakage. Just like from a very top height, if you give something, but if it is given hand to hand it does not break. But if you drop anything from very high place, it will be spoiled. Therefore it comes through the *paramparā.* Take for example one fruit, ripened fruit. This *Bhāgavatam* is accepted as the ripened fruit of the Vedic desire tree. *Nigama-kalpa-taror galitaṁ phalam idam* [[sb/1/1/3|[SB. 1.1.3] ]]. It is the ripened fruit of all Vedic knowledge. Because Vedic knowledge means to understand God. That is Vedic knowledge. *Vedaiś ca sarvair aham eva vedyaḥ* [[bg/15/15|[Bg. 15.15] ]].
That is Vedic knowledge. To understand the Supreme Lord, the original person, that is the end of Vedic knowledge. So that Vedic knowledge is presented in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* and therefore in the beginning of *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam* Vyāsadeva offers his respectful obeisances, *oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* Vāsudeva is the origin. *Vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ* [[bg/7/19|[Bg. 7.19] ]]. One who has known that *vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti,* "Vāsudeva is everything," *sa mahātmā sudurlabhaḥ.* He's not only ordinary *mahātmā,* he is *su-durlabhaḥ. Durlabhaḥ* means "very rare," and when you add this word *su,* it is "very, very difficult." *Su-durlabhaḥ.* That kind of *mahātmā...* [aside:] You sit down properly. Who is that man? You sit down properly. So *vāsudevaḥ sarvam iti sa mahātmā su-durlabhaḥ* [[bg/7/19|[Bg. 7.19] ]].
