# September 4 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[[../../spoken/1966/660904bg.ny.md|Bg 6.4-12 — September 4, 1966, New York]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[spoken/720904sb.nv|SB 1.2.6 — September 4, 1972, New Vrindavan]]** --- **[[spoken/730904bg.lon|Bg 2.36-37 — September 4, 1973, London]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* --- **[[spoken/750904mw.vrn|Morning Walk — September 4, 1975, Vṛndāvana]]** **Nayanābhirāma:** So I was just wondering if it wouldn't be better if we gave them food and clothing instead of paying them. [break] Who does not deviate from the instruction of the Lord, he is Āryan. All others, non-Āryan. The Āryans will take the words of God as it is, without any deviation. That is Āryan. An Āryan means advanced, advanced in knowledge, and one who is advanced in knowledge, he is advanced civilized. Rascal fools, how they can be civilized? Everyone is claiming "Āryan," but he does not know what is the business of Āryans. Simply by some bodily feature... The same ignorance—"I am this body." So by the bodily features they settle up: "This is from Āryan family; this is from non-Āryan family." That is good. That is external. Real Āryan means one who is advanced in knowledge and goes by the order of Kṛṣṇa, or God. [aside:] *Jaya.* **Brahmānanda:** Adolf Hitler adopted the idea of Āryan, but his criteria for Āryan was one who had blond hair and blue eyes. --- **[[spoken/750904sb.vrn|SB 6.1.68 — September 4, 1975, Vṛndāvana]]** **Brahmānanda:** The *ācamana* has already been done. So if you give lecture, then after lecture, after lecture you can give out the beads. **Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] Sixth Canto, First Chapter, verse number sixty-eight. [leads chanting of verse, etc.] --- **[[spoken/760904r1.vrn|Room Conversation — September 4, 1976, Vṛndāvana]]** **Harikeśa:** > titikṣavaḥ kāruṇikāḥ > suhṛdaḥ sarva-dehinām > ajāta-śatravaḥ śāntāḥ > sādhavaḥ sādhu-bhūṣaṇāḥ > [[sb/3/25/21|[SB. 3.25.21] ]] **Harikeśa:** "The symptoms of a *sādhu* are that he is tolerant, merciful, and friendly to all living entities. He has no enemies, he is peaceful, he abides by the scriptures and all his characteristics are sublime." **Prabhupāda:** This is *sādhu.* The first qualification is *titikṣava,* very tolerant. And Cāṇakya Paṇḍita has said, *kṣamā-rūpaṁ tapasvinām.* Those who are *tap**asvīs,* their first duty is how much he is forgiving, how much he has learned to forgive. *Kṣamā-rūpaṁ tapasvinām. Tapasā brahmacaryeṇa śamena damena* [[sb/6/1/13|[SB. 6.1.13] ]]. So what is the explanation? --- **[[spoken/760904sb.vrn|SB 1.7.5 — September 4, 1976, Vṛndāvana]]** **Prabhupāda:** > yayā sammohito jīva > ātmānaṁ tri-guṇātmakam > paro 'pi manute 'narthaṁ > tat-kṛtaṁ cābhipadyate > [[sb/1/7/5|[SB. 1.7.5] ]] Vyāsadeva saw three things: the *jīvātmā,* and the Supreme Personality of Godhead and *māyā. Māyā* means what is not. *Mā-yā.* So that *māyā* begins from what is not. I am not this body, but I am thinking I am this body. This is *māyā.* I am not this body, that's a fact. But I am thinking, "I am this body." This is *māyā.* This is the beginning of *māyā.* This is the conception of the animals, less than human beings. Nowadays even a human being, he's also thinking like that. This is *anartha.* That is the beginning of *Bhagavad-gītā* lesson, to impress, "Arjuna, you are not this body." *Tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ* [[bg/2/13|[Bg. 2.13] ]]. So many ways. So this is *anartha.* To accept this body and in bodily relationship everything, *ahaṁ mameti [[sb/5/5/8|[SB. 5.5.8] ]], this is *māyā.* So this is *anartha. Anartha* means meaningless, no *artha. Artha* means meaning. So if we want to stop this *anartha,* misconception of life, then we have to take to *bhakti-yoga.* It is explained in the next verse. But for the time being we are misled. The *māyā,* or the material nature, is misleading us. We are trying to adjust things according to the dictation of *māyā,* that we shall be able to stop our struggle for existence in this way and that way. That is not possible. *Daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā* [[bg/7/14|[Bg. 7.14] ]]. --- ## Letters - [[../../letters/1968/680904_anapurna_ananda.md|Letter to Anapurna Ananda, 1968]] - [[../../letters/1969/690904_bhakti_sastri_examination.md|Letter to Bhakti Sastri Examination, 1969]] - [[../../letters/1969/690904_satsvarupa_brahmananda.md|Letter to Satsvarupa Brahmananda, 1969]] - [[../../letters/1972/720904_jadurani.md|Letter to Jadurani, 1972]] - [[../../letters/1972/720904_patty_dorgan.md|Letter to Patty Dorgan, 1972]] - [[../../letters/1973/730904_sudama.md|Letter to Sudama, 1973]] - [[../../letters/1973/730904_trai.md|Letter to Trai, 1973]] - [[../../letters/1974/740904_rupanuga.md|Letter to Rupanuga, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1974/740904_temple_president.md|Letter to Temple President, 1974]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_bhurijana.md|Letter to Bhurijana, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_cyavana.md|Letter to Cyavana, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_deoji_punja.md|Letter to Deoji Punja, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_gatravan.md|Letter to Gatravan, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_ksirodakasayi.md|Letter to Ksirodakasayi, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_madhudvisa.md|Letter to Madhudvisa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_paramahamsa.md|Letter to Paramahamsa, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_sharon_suzuki.md|Letter to Sharon Suzuki, 1975]] - [[../../letters/1975/750904_sudhindra_kisora_roy.md|Letter to Sudhindra Kisora Roy, 1975]]
