# August 31 *Lectures from this day: 8 recordings* --- **[[spoken/660831bg.ny|Bg 5.22-29 — August 31, 1966, New York]]** **Prabhupāda:** > ye hi saṁsparśajā bhogā > duḥkha-yonaya eva te > ādy-antavantaḥ kaunteya > na teṣu ramate budhaḥ > [[bg/5/22|[Bg. 5.22] ]] Happiness which is derived by touch senses, *saṁsparśajā... Saṁsparśajāḥ* means happiness, so-called happiness derived by touch senses. *Ye hi saṁsparśajā bhogāḥ,* enjoyment. *Duḥkha-yonaya eva te.* Lord Kṛṣṇa says that that is not real happiness. Anything, any happiness derived out of touch sensation, that is not real happiness. Rather, that is the gate of various miseries. The whole Vedic scripture describes that happiness derived of sense perception out of the body, that is not real happiness. If we are to enjoy real happiness, then we have to transcend these bodily pleasures. Happiness is there because I am spirit soul. Actually, I am full of pleasure, but because my sense of happiness is being manifested through this matter, therefore we are being frustrated in deriving real pleasure. So those who are in the..., advanced in the spiritual life, they are called *yogī*. So *yoginaḥ. Ramante yoginaḥ anante* [[cc/madhya/9/29|[Cc. Madhya 9.29] ]]. --- **[[spoken/720831sp.nv|Speech [Bhāgavata-dharma Discourse] — August 31, 1972, New Vrindavan]]** --- **[[spoken/730831bg.lon|Bg 2.30 — August 31, 1973, London]]** **Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.] **Translation:** "O descendant of Bharata, he who dwells in the body is eternal and can never be slain. [Transl.Today all my disciples are celebrating the *Vyāsa-pūjā-tithi*. *Vyāsa-pūjā-tithi*, is the birthday of the spiritual master. The real guru is Vyāsadeva, Vedavyāsa, and through the disciplic succession of Vedavyāsa. Just like it is said in the *Bhagavad-gītā*, *evaṁ paramparā-prāptam imaṁ rājarṣayo viduḥ* [[bg/4/2|[Bg. 4.2] ]] This Vedic knowledge is disseminated through the disciplic succession, not by any academic education and learning, through disciplic succession. *Sa kāleneha yogo naṣṭaḥ parantapa* [[bg/4/2|[Bg. 4.2] ]] If the disciplic succession is destroyed then this Vedic knowledge is destroyed. That is why Sanātana Gosvāmī has said, [One should not hear anything about Kṛṣṇa from a non-Vaiṣṇava. Milk touched by the lips of a serpent has a poisonous effect; similarly, talks about Kṛṣṇa given by a non-Vaiṣṇava are also poisonous.] Those who are not followers of the Vaiṣṇava etiquette, we should not hear the topics of the Lord from their mouth. What is the fault in the topics of the Lord? *Pūta hari-kathāmṛtam.* He says, that *Hari-kathā*, is like nectar but despite being like nectar if one is not a Vaiṣṇava, then we should not hear from him. Sanātana Gosvāmī has forbidden this. Why? *Sarpocchiṣṭaṁ payo yathā.* Milk is nectar but if it is touched by the lips of a serpent then it is poison. And Śrīman Mahāprabhu has also said this, *māyāvādi-bhāṣya śunile haya sarva-nāśa* [[cc/madhya/6/169|[Cc.
