## Spoken on August 30
*Lectures from this day: 7 recordings*

**[1968: Rādhāṣṭamī Lecture](spoken/1968/680830ad.mon)**
> And *śāśvatam. Śāṣvatam* means original. It's not that Rāma and Kṛṣṇa, as the Māyāvādī philosophers says, that the impersonal Brahman appears in form. This is rascaldom. Actually, He appears in His own form, as it is stated in the *Bhagavad-gītā, sambhavāmy ātma-māyayā*. We are... We are accepting this form not by our own potency. I have accepted this body, you have accepted this body, not by your own will. You have been forced to accept a particular type of body according to your work. You cannot make choice. Otherwise, everyone would have made his choice to take birth in America or some place like that, or heavenly planets. Oh, that is not choice. Just like if the foreigners, they apply for immigration, there is..., the choice depends on the highest authority.
> Immeasurable does not mean simply great. Immeasurable means you cannot measure even how small He is. *Aṇor aṇīyān mahato mahīyān* [*Kaṭha Upaniṣad* 1.2.20]. He is the greater than the greatest and the smaller than the smallest. Therefore *aprameyam. Anagham. Anagham* means this material contamination cannot touch Him. *Etad īśasya īśānām. Īśa,* the Supreme Lord, means that He may come in any form. Just like He appears as the boar, hog. That does not mean He is hog. Or even He acts like hog, still He is *anagham.* How it is possible? Because He's *tejiyasaṁ na doṣayā*.
---
**[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 2.28](spoken/1973/730830bg.lon)**
> Therefore Vyāsadeva saw *apaśyat puruṣaṁ pūrṇam.* He saw... Just like in aeroplane, you go above the cloud. The sun is not affected at all by the cloud. Although below the aeroplane you'll see vast mass of cloud. Similarly, *māyā* cannot affect Kṛṣṇa. Therefore *Bhagavad-gītā* says, *daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā. Mama māyā*. Kṛṣṇa says, "My illusory energy." Kṛṣṇa is never affected by the illusory energy, exactly like the cloud. But the Māyāvādī philosopher, they say that when impersonal Absolute Truth comes, appears...
> So spiritual body is existing, and spiritual advancement means first of all to know spiritual identification of myself. Just like Sanātana Gosvāmī went to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu after retiring from his ministership. So he first of all said that *ke āmi, kene āmāya jāre tāpa-traya* : "Actually, I do not know what I am, and why I am subjected to the miserable condition of life." Therefore the miserable condition of life is this body. Because I get... In dream also. When I get another body, sometimes we find that on top of the very tall bamboo or tall mountain, I am just now, I'm falling down. And I'm afraid; I sometimes cry, "Now I am now falling down." So this body, this material body, which body I belong to, which I am... Actually, I do not belong to any of these bodies. I have got a separate spiritual body.

**[1973: Morning Walk](spoken/1973/730830mw.lon)**
> Like the cats and dogs, they cannot inquire what is spirit soul. So Vedic life means to become free as much as possible from the bodily disturbances. Therefore, the first education is to become *brahmacārī,* celibacy. You see? Now, at the present moment, they are trying to make the abortion as law. But these rascal cannot check their sex life. You see? Their philosophy is that you shall go on with sex life unrestrictedly, and when there is pregnancy, kill the child.
> It's extraordinary attitude to life isn't it, really? One of the other problems that I was going to raise, and in fact it appears in the question sheet, there seems to be some, in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam...* Is that the right pronunciation? I always get these things wrong.

**[1975: Bhagavad-gītā 7.3 and Conversation with Kashiramji Saraf](spoken/1975/750830bg.vrn)**
> We are in this material world that has four kinds of suffering. *janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi-duḥkha-doṣānudarśanam* We are all big big scientists, philosophers, philanthropists and we want to solve all the problems of life. The Lord says, all these problems are immediate in nature, these will go on. The real problems of life are *janma-mṛtyu-jarā-vyādhi*. So if we want to solve the problem so that we are not reborn again. So for not to be born again, the *Jñāni's* say that they will merge into the Brahman, be one with Brahman. It is not difficult for the Lord to merge them with Him but the Vaiṣṇavas or the devotees of the Lord do not want to merge with the Lord. He wants to be engaged forever in the service of the Lord. So the Lord also says, *mām eti. mām eti* means that if someone wants to merge then he can merge with the Brahmajyoti. Otherwise he can go to His eternal pastimes in Vaikuṇṭha, in Goloka Vṛndāvana and be engaged in the service of the Lord. But there is a problem in merging into the bodily effulgence of the Lord. And that is *sat-cit-ānanda*, you don't get *ānanda*. Only eternity is accomplished. But by only achieving eternity one is not blissful. That is why the scriptures says,
> dharmasya glānir means when we forget the Lord. This is *dharmasya glānir*. Our religion, the Lord Himself says, *dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītaṁ* We cannot manufacture *dharma*. Just like nowadays it is a fashion that I manufacture one *dharma* and you manufacture one *dharma*. These are not the real *dharma*. These are all *kaitava*, cheating religion. That is why it is said in the *Bhagavatam, Dharmaḥ projjhita-kaitavo' atra*, this cheating religion is to be thrown out.* What is the real *dharma*? *Dharmaṁ tu sākṣād bhagavat-praṇītaṁ*, whatever the Lord says, that is real *dharma*. What does the Lord say?

**[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.63](spoken/1975/750830sb.vrn)**
> So the nature's law is so nice or so perfect that by seeing only, you will be infected. By seeing only. *Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ*. We are put into such a position that every moment we are being affected by the three modes of material nature. *Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni.* The *prakṛti,* the nature, is working so expertly. *Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni.* And *kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu*.* In this way our transmigration from one body to another, *tathā dehāntara-prāptiḥ*, it is due to this infection of contacting different material modes of nature. The whole world is going on. So therefore our business of human life is how to protect ourself from this infection of material nature. That should be the aim of human life, not that allow us to be infected more and more and become implicated in the cycle of birth and death, sometimes lower, sometimes higher. This is not intelligence. The intelligence is how to get out of it. In the lower animal forms of life the nature takes care. *Jalajā nava-lakṣāni sthāvarā lakṣa-viṁśati, kṛmayo rudra-sāṅkhyakāḥ* [*Padma Purāṇa*]. From the aquatics to the plant life, then insect life, then bird life, then beast life, then we come to the human life. And that is also... When we come to the civilized life we should not waste our time like animals or lower creatures.
> Just like the flood is going on in many parts of the world. So this is due to our sinful life. Nature is punishing. *Ādhidaivika.* You cannot control. Nature will punish. Why nature is punishing? Because we are godless. That is nature's business. The more we become godless, the more we'll be punished by the laws of nature. Therefore in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said, *daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayī mama māyā duratyayā*. You cannot surpass. You make many scientific plans to overcome—it is not possible. Then how it is possible? *Mām eva ye prapadyante māyām etāṁ taranti.* Unless you surrender to Kṛṣṇa... That is your business.
