# August 20 ## Spoken on August 20 *Lectures from this day: 5 recordings* --- **[1968: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.12–13](spoken/1968/680820sb.mon)** > So as soon as you become servant of Kṛṣṇa you get full satisfaction. *Sa-nātha-jīvitaḥ. Sa-nātha-jīvitaḥ* means you will understand that "I have a master who is so full, who is so complete, who is so competent, who is so faithful and who is so nice, there is no injustice." Therefore, those who are mendicants, they are so much confident that "Kṛṣṇa will provide for my subsistence. Kṛṣṇa will..." *Abhayam.* Therefore they are not fearful. *Abhayaṁ sattva-samśuddhiḥ*. In the *Bhagavad-gītā* you will find that one has to attain to that stage—no fearfulness. Fearfulness is due to our absorption in the material consciousness. *Bhayaṁ dvitīyābhiniveśitaḥ syād īśad apetasya viparyayāsmṛtiḥ*. > There are three modes of material nature. Somebody is in the modes of goodness; somebody is in the modes of passion; somebody is in the modes of ignorance. But in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said, *māṁ cāvyabhicāriṇi bhakti-yogena yaḥ sevate* :* "Anyone who is engaged in transcendental loving service," *sa guṇān samatītyaitān,* "he transcends the influence of these modes of material nature and," *brahma-bhūyāya kalpate,* "he becomes Brahman realized." We are already Brahman, but we have to realize. And as soon as you realize... *Brahma-bhūtaḥ prasannātmā*. As soon as we realize Brahman, immediately we become anxiety-less, *prasannātmā.* --- **[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.1.3](spoken/1971/710820sb.lon)** > That is the special prerogative of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. *Yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ*. If one becomes Kṛṣṇa conscious, then all the good qualities of the demigods will automatically manifest in Him. *Harāv abhaktasya kuto mahad-guṇā manorathenāsati dhāvato bahiḥ*. On the contrary, those who are not Kṛṣṇa conscious, they have no good qualification. *Harāv abhaktasya.* They are simply hovering on the mental platform, and therefore they fall down. > But so far we are concerned, we are above this discipline. A Vaiṣṇava is transcendental. He hasn't got to train under this discipline. Because he takes shelter of Kṛṣṇa directly, he's given immediately all protection. Kṛṣṇa says, *ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi* : "I shall give you all protection from sinful life." --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.17](spoken/1972/720820sb.la)** > That is Māyāvādī theory. "After all," they say, "the foodstuff has to be given to the body, inside the body. So I can push the foodstuff through any hole. There are so many holes." Sometimes in medical science, when it is impossible to push food through the mouth, they push through the rectum. That is artificial. But emergency, they do sometimes. But that is not the way. The real way is that food is required to be given to the body, but it must be given through the mouth, not through any other hole. > The dirty thing is that "I shall be happy by material enjoyment." This is the basis of dirty things. The rascal does not know that he cannot be happy in any condition, any material condition. Brahmā is unhappy, Indra is unhappy, what to speak of you, you are a teeny creature. Nobody can be happy in this material world. They must be always in anxiety, because they have accepted something which will never make him happy. Therefore we have to counteract it, these dirty things, that we are trying to be happy in this material world. --- **[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 2.14](spoken/1973/730820bg.lon)** > Therefore the *śāstra* says, *tasyaiva hetoḥ prayateta kovidaḥ.* You are transmigrating from so many bodies, this body to that body. Now you have got the chance, human body. Now you can read *Bhagavad-gītā.* Now you can learn from Kṛṣṇa what is the problem of life. Utilize for that purpose. Don't be perplexed with this problem of this body. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *mātrā-sparśās tu kaunteya śītoṣṇa-sukha-duḥkha-dāḥ*. You should know... Just like the summer season comes. You should know, "It has come; it will go away. The winter season has come. It has come; it will go away." So just to try to protect yourself as far as possible, but you are not affected by such summer season or winter season. > So *dehino 'smin yathā dehe*. All of us, the living entity, soul, is within this body, not this body I am. So one who has realized this thing, that "I am not this body, I am spirit soul, and living by nature's arrangement, I have been allowed to live in such-and-such body," then he is learned. That is the beginning. So Kṛṣṇa, from the previous verse... That is actual spiritual education. In the world, these rascals are going on, spiritualists. They do not know the very first thing of spiritual knowledge, that "I am not this body." They are doing so many sinful acts on account of this body; still, they are going as religious or spiritualist. Nobody is spiritualist unless one understands his spiritual identification, neither one is religious. --- **[1976: Room Conversation](spoken/1976/760820r1.hyd)** > Oh, very good. No, they are very happy. All the boys and girls are very happy. --- ## Letters on August 20 *Letters from this day: 35* --- **[1970: Letter to Bhagavan](letters/1970/700820_bhagavan)** > The reports of your meeting are very encouraging, so try to purge out the contamination, which has entered our Society, uprootedly. --- **[1970: Letter to Hayagriva](letters/1970/700820_hayagriva)** > Regarding Janmastami arrangement, it is going on nicely-that is very encouraging.
