# August 7 ## Spoken on August 7 *Lectures from this day: 7 recordings* --- **[1971: Room Conversation with Mr. Arnold](spoken/1971/710807r1.lon)** > Our, our system, culture is *varṇāśrama-dharma*. That is mentioned in the *Bhagavad-gītā, cātur-varṇyaṁ mayā sṛṣṭaṁ, varṇa*. *Varṇa* means four sections: *brāhmaṇa, kṣatriya, vaiśya, śūdra*. That is real Vedic culture. That Vedic culture can be all over the world. Why in India? We are trying for that, to get the Vedic culture, which is acceptable by everyone. It is meant for everyone. > They were thrown by the Hindu society, or *brāhmaṇa* society, rejected them, that, "They have become Muhammadan." And actually, just like in our younger days, in our father's time, if one should come to England for education, he has to pass through some *prāyaścitta*: shaving the head, and have some big ceremony, and feed the *brāhmaṇas* and spend so much money—then you will be accepted in the society. Otherwise you cannot enter the society. He went to *mleccha-deśa, mleccha-deśa,* and he has eaten meat and he has mixed with so many, so he will not be accepted. --- **[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.1.1](spoken/1971/710807sb.lon)** > But actually there are six. Six... In the birth, then living for some time, then growth, then producing something out of the body, then dwindling, then finished. Every body. Everybody takes birth, then remains for some time, grows also or changes different body, and then from the body some other bodies are also come out. In this way one becomes old; that means dwindling. And one day will come he'll be finished. *Ṣaḍ-vikāra.* These are called six kinds of transformation. Any material thing we can take: six kinds of transformation. But Kṛṣṇa has not such transformation. Therefore He is not of this body. His body is mentioned in the *śāstra, sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha* [Bs. 5.1].* So anyone accepting Kṛṣṇa like ordinary man, then he's a rascal. *Avajānanti māṁ mūḍhā mānuṣīṁ tanum āśritam*. > So God's name... Actually, there is no God's name. There is name, but He has got so many names. His name is given according to His pastime. Just like according to... It has got meaning. You cannot give any name to God without bearing any meaning. That is the Vedic significance. When we say "Kṛṣṇa" name of God, that means He's all-attractive. All-attractive means, He's not only attractive to the devotees but to the nondevotees also. It's not that Kṛṣṇa is one-sided, He's attractive to the devotees. No. To the nondevotees also. --- **[1972: Room Conversation](spoken/1972/720807r1.lon)** > But the solution how to get the eternal soul out of the cycle of birth and death is to understand that the spirit soul, the *jīvātmā,* is part and parcel of Kṛṣṇa. In the Fourth Chapter of Kṛṣṇa's *Bhagavad*-*gītā* Kṛṣṇa says, "When you have seen the truth, you will see that all these living beings are My parts and parcels. They are in Me, and they are Mine."* And Kṛṣṇa says that these part and parcels are all eternal. They are eternal entities; they are actually associates of Kṛṣṇa. We have forgotten this. > Kṛṣṇa is Parabrahman, Supreme Spirit. When you link with Kṛṣṇa you are purified, and you realize, "I am spirit soul," and even before quitting this body you are seeing Kṛṣṇa everywhere in that pure state. Then automatically in that state of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, even this body is dying... Kṛṣṇa says, "One who is always fixed his mind on Me can know and remember Me even at the time of death."* And thus you are thinking of Kṛṣṇa—that is your desire, for Kṛṣṇa—you take birth in His eternal abode, which is called Vaikuṇṭha, or actually Goloka Vṛndāvana. So to... --- **[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 2.7](spoken/1973/730807bg.lon)** > So therefore in the human society there must be a system of division. That is called *varṇāśrama-dharma.* That is Vedic civilization. That is real called *ārya-samāja. Ārya-samāja* does not mean to become rascal and fool and deny the existence of God. No. That is *anārya.* Just like Kṛṣṇa rebuked Arjuna, *anārya-juṣṭam:* "You are talking like *anārya.*" One who is not Kṛṣṇa conscious, he's *anārya. Anārya. Ārya* means who is advancing in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So really *ārya-samāna* means Kṛṣṇa conscious person. Otherwise, bogus, bogus *ārya-samāna.* Because here from the *Bhagavad-gītā* says, Kṛṣṇa says Arjuna, rebuking, because he was refusing to fight, because he does not know what is his duty, again Arjuna is admitting here that *kārpaṇya-doṣopahata-svabhāvaḥ* : > So in the animal life it is not possible to change one's nature, which is given by the material energy, *prakṛti. Prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni*. Kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya... Kāraṇaṁ guṇa-sangaḥ asya sad-asad-janma-yoniṣu*.* Why? All living entities are part and parcel of God. Therefore originally the characteristic of the living entity is as good as God. Simply it is a question of quantity. Quality is the same. Quality is the same. *Mamaivāṁśo jīva-bhūtaḥ*. --- **[1973: Room Conversation with Reporter](spoken/1973/730807r1.lon)** > Haṁsadūta: You see, we are not against using anything at all [indistinct] because we are engaged in [indistinct] Kṛṣṇa, therefore flying [indistinct]. Everything we use, but we use it for Kṛṣṇa. > Haṁsadūta: Well, Kṛṣṇa consciousness is not a religion, but Prabhupāda... Kṛṣṇa consciousness is very old, you know. The *Bhagavad-gītā* was spoken over five thousand years ago. So it is the oldest literature in the world. So Prabhupāda is an *ācārya,* or spiritual teacher. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750807mw.tor)** > If one is engaged in the devotional service of Vāsudeva, then he immediately becomes *vairāgī*—no attachment for material things—and knowledge. But most of these rascals, they are nondevotees. The so-called *mahānta,* he is not *mahānta*—*mohāndha,* "great blind." So that is the difficulty. Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is to bring everyone to the stage of devotional service to Vāsudeva. Then it will be all right. Other platform will never be successful. Simply show. It is not fact. [break]...also take it very easily that "I haven't got to do anything. My Guru Mahārāja is there. He will do everything. I can do whatever I like." The Christians are doing like that, that "Jesus Christ will suffer. We indulge in sinful activities, that's all." This is their policy. It is perhaps in our movement only that each and every individual is being trained up. Others, they do not do that. "I have made a *guru;* then my business is finished. Now I can do whatever I like." [to dogs barking:] *Hut!* > First of all you surrender; then you ask question. The rascals first of all will question. And when he is satisfied, they will surrender. This is not the process. The process is first of all surrender; then question. Otherwise you have no right to question, waste time. [break]...is the sinful part of water. This is sinful part. There is sinful water and pious water also. So this water is sinful. Drinking of this water is prohibited. --- ## Letters on August 7 *Letters from this day: 12* --- **[1968: Letter to Brahmananda](letters/1968/680807_brahmananda)** > If you do not come then talk with me by phone. This book distribution and Ratha Yatra Festivals should go on all over the world. --- **[1975: Letter to Candradevi](letters/1975/750807_candradevi)** > It is a very good idea that you have to be more attached to the Deities above marriage. --- **[1975: Letter to Dr. Y.G. Naik](letters/1975/750807_dr._y.g._naik)** > Prasadam in this country means a full meal. From the very beginning even when I was alone, I was cooking myself for at least one dozen men, and I distributed full meals. According to Caitanya Mahaprabhu philosophy, prasadam should be taken up to the neck, *akantha.* In Jagannatha Puri Caitanya Mahaprabhu's only occupation was holding Sankirtana at least four hours every day and distributing prasadam to the devotees. ---
