## Spoken on August 6
*Lectures from this day: 7 recordings*

**[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.2.6 Hampstead Hall](spoken/1971/710806s2.lon)**
> Then what is more important than the sun globe? If you have power to penetrate still further within the sun globe, you will find there is a god, or demigod, whose name is Vivasvān, and he is the supreme personality in the sun globe. This is one of the suns. But there are millions and trillions of suns. The science also accepts it: not only one sun. But just imagine who manufacturesd all these suns. You go further, and Kṛṣṇa says *ahaṁ. Mattaḥ sarvaṁ pravartate, ahaṁ sarvasya prabhavo*. So in this way, if you are actually philosophically inclined, you can find out Kṛṣṇa by studying *Bhagavad-gītā*.
> If you cannot think of God immediately, the *Bhāgavata...*, *Bhagavad-gītā* gives you direction how you can realize God step by step. Just like Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā*, *raso 'ham apsu kaunteya* : "My dear Arjuna, I am the taste of the water." Now, you are drinking water every day, many times, and quench your thirst. If you think, meditate, on the water only, that Kṛṣṇa says that "I am the taste of the water," you become a great philosopher and lover of God—simply by tasting water. You do not require to see Kṛṣṇa. You just think over the matter which you are using daily, you will come to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Why Kṛṣṇa says that "I am the taste of the water"?

**[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.1.1](spoken/1971/710806sb.lon)**
> Vyāsadeva says that "I offer my obeisances to the Supreme Absolute Truth." *Satyaṁ paraṁ dhīmahi.* There is no more truth beyond that. And as Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, mattaḥ parataraṁ nānyat kiñcid asti dhanañjaya*. Mattaḥ,* "Beyond Me there is no more superior power." *Mattaḥ parataraṁ na anyat.* So Vyāsadeva is offering his obeisances to the person above whom there is nobody. God means controller, I have several times explained. But here in our experience we see that one controller is controlled by another controller. Nobody is absolute controller. Therefore nobody is Absolute Truth. But there is..., there must be the Absolute Truth. *Janmādy asya yataḥ,* as it has begun, "the source of all emanations."
> So when there was no material creation, Kṛṣṇa was there. Therefore His body is not... Therefore Kṛṣṇa says in the *Bhagavad-gītā, janma karma ajo 'pi san avyayātmā:* "I am unborn," *avyayātmā,* "eternal body; still, I take birth." *Bhūtānām īśvaro 'pi san:* "I am the Lord of everyone; still, I appear." These things are to be understood. And if we can understand Kṛṣṇa, *janma karma me divyam...*. These are all transcendental knowledge. They are not ordinary knowledge. *Divyam,* transcendental. His appearance, His disappearance, His work, His activity, His pastimes, they are all transcendental. So anyone who can try to understand Kṛṣṇa in His transcendental position beyond creation, beyond creation...

**[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 2.6](spoken/1973/730806bg.lon)**
> So here the position is that Arjuna is to fight not for himself, but he is only thinking in terms of himself. He says, *te avasthitaḥ pramukhe dhārtarāṣṭrāḥ, yān eva hatvā na jijīviṣāmas* : "They are my brothers, relatives. If they die... We do not wish to die. Now they are in my front. I have to kill them?" So still he is thinking in terms of his own satisfaction. He is preparing the background—how materialistic person, they think in the terms of personal satisfaction. So that has to be given up. Not personal satisfaction; Kṛṣṇa's satisfaction. That is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Whatever you do, it doesn't matter, you have to test it whether you are doing it for Kṛṣṇa. That is your perfection. Not only perfection, that is the perfection of your mission of human life.
> So here again, the same thing. Arjuna is thinking in terms, *na caitad vidmaḥ kataran no garīyo*. So he is perplexed, "Which one, which side will be glorious? I shall stop fighting or not fighting?" In the next verses it will be seen... When you are in such perplexity, what to do and what not to do, so in order to get right direction, you must approach the spiritual master. That will be done in the next verse. Arjuna will say that "I do not know. I am now perplexed. Although I know it is my duty as *kṣatriya* to fight, still I am hesitating. I am hesitating in my duty. So therefore I am perplexed. So Kṛṣṇa, therefore I submit to You." Formerly he was talking just like friend. Now he will be prepared to take lesson from Kṛṣṇa.

**[1973: Interview with Reporters](spoken/1973/730806iv.lon)**
>very important man of the society to understand this, science of this philosophy. Our main business is we are also thinking deeply how the human being, human society, will be happy. That's all. As all the politicians or philosophers, scientists, they are thinking for the major benefit of the human society, we are also thinking, but we are thinking in terms of God consciousness. That is the difference.
> This is more sensible. Milk is also blood, another transformation, so why you should slaughter and take blood directly? Why not take indirectly, by nature's way? You'll take the same benefit, and the poor animal is not killed. And I am surprised. I have not any satisfactory answer, whenever I ask any gentleman that if the Christian principle is first, "Thou shall not kill..."

**[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 4.14](spoken/1974/740806bg.vrn)**
> So in another place Kṛṣṇa says, *janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. Karma,* every living entity is bound up by the resultant action of his own *karma.* But Kṛṣṇa is not like that. The..., in the English constitutional law it is said that "The king can no..., king can do no wrong." King can order punishment for the criminal, but the king is never criminal. King cannot be punished. Your President Nixon is fighting on this point. Although people wants to impeach him, he's fighting on this point, that "I am not wrong." Actually, that much facilities must be given to the head executive. If he becomes under the laws, then his position is not exalted. The... That is the principle of accepting in the highest order of life.
> That is all transcendental. Kṛṣṇa's body... Just like *sac-cid-ānanda-vigraha* [Bs. 5.1].* Kṛṣṇa's body is eternal. My body is not eternal, so how can I imitate Kṛṣṇa? Kṛṣṇa's body is eternal, *sat.* Kṛṣṇa's body is full of knowledge. And I am full of ignorance, my body. I do not know, if there is some disease in the finger. But... Just like the other day, there was some trouble. Now automatically, the skin is being purified. So I do not know how it is being done. Therefore full of ignorance. But Kṛṣṇa is not like that. *Sat cit. Cit* means knowledge. He knows everything. Not only Himself; He knows everything. *Vedāhaṁ samatītāni*. Kṛṣṇa says, "I know everything." In the *Bhāgavata* it is said, *janmādy asya anvayād itarataś ca artheṣu abhijñaḥ.* Kṛṣṇa knows everything. But I do not know. I do not know how many hairs are here. And still I am claiming I am Kṛṣṇa.
---
**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.5.25](spoken/1974/740806sb.vrn)**
> So here it is said that *dvijaiḥ..., ucchiṣṭa-lepān anumodito dvijaiḥ. Dvijaiḥ,* the *brāhmaṇa.* And the supreme *brāhmaṇa* is the devotee, *kṛṣṇaika-śaraṇa.* So Nārada Muni, in his previous birth, he was engaged in washing the dishes, eating the foodstuffs left by the *dvijaiḥ,* by the *brāhmaṇas.* In this way he infected their disease. As in ordinary material sense if you eat the remnants of foodstuff of a diseased fellow, then you infect that disease. Therefore sometimes when there is a patient suffering from tuberculosis, it is strictly separated from the family to another room or another house so that... It is very infectious. Cholera is very infectious. Smallpox is very much infectious. There are many infectious disease. So as you infect this material disease by eating the foodstuff left by a diseased fellow, similarly, if you eat the remnants of foodstuff left by a Vaiṣṇava you become Vaiṣṇava. This is infection. So we should voluntarily accept this infection. The other infection we should avoid, but this infection we shall welcome. But the process is the same. *Paraṁ dṛṣṭvā nivartate*.* You can refrain from the lower class of infection simply by infecting yourself with the higher class, or transcendental class, of infection.
> So Nārada Muni, he was a small boy. It was not possible for him to study *Vedānta* or philosophy. He was not even educated. But still, simply by eating the remnants of foodstuff left by the devotees, *dvijaiḥ,* he became so exalted. The explanation is given there that *evaṁ pravṛttasya viśuddha-cetasaḥ.* "Because I was engaged in this service, gradually my heart became cleansed." *Viśuddha-cetasaḥ. Cetasaḥ* means heart. So actually, Kṛṣṇa consciousness is there. As it is stated in the *Caitanya-caritāmṛta, nitya-siddha kṛṣṇa-bhakti*.

> [in car]...house for the last four years. And I went for half an hour; I purchased—without any money. Still, they are so blind, they cannot see the mercy of God. One should imagine that "Yes, there is mercy of God. Otherwise how it is possible?" If they have no eyes to see, they should imagine at least.
