# July 20 *Lectures from this day: 15 recordings* --- **[[spoken/660720bg.ny|Bg 4.6-8 — July 20, 1966, New York]]** **Prabhupāda:** > janma karma [ca] me divyam > [evaṁ] yo vetti tattvataḥ > tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma > naiti mām eti kaunteya > [[bg/4/9|[Bg. 4.9] ]] Lord Kṛṣṇa says that "The process of My birth and the process of My activities, they are all transcendental." And anyone who can understand the transcendental activities, appearance, disappearance of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, then the result is that *tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti mām eti kaunteya.* The result is that anyone who understands these transcendental activities of the Supreme Lord, *tattvataḥ* in truth, the result is that he becomes a liberated person. *Tyaktvā deham. Tyaktvā* means by quitting, by giving up this present material body, he at once is transferred to the spiritual world. *Tyaktvā dehaṁ punar janma naiti* [[bg/4/9|[Bg. 4.9] ]]. He does not require to come back here in this material world to have this material body. He at once develops his own spiritual body just like Kṛṣṇa. This is the process. Simply by understanding the transcendental activities and the appearance and disappearance, he becomes fully spiritualized, and the result is that he at once... He does not get; the spiritual body is already existing. I am spirit; I have got my spiritual body, but that body is now covered by this matter. --- **[[../../spoken/1968/680720le.mon.md|Lecture [partially recorded] — July 20, 1968, Montreal]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[../../spoken/1971/710720le.la.md|Lecture — July 20, 1971, Los Angeles]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[spoken/710720pu.ny|Purport to Jaya Rādhā-Mādhava — July 20, 1971, New York]]** ...original nature of Kṛṣṇa. Original nature of Kṛṣṇa. He is Rādhā-Mādhava. He is the lover of Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī. And *kuñja-vihārī,* always enjoying the company of the *gopīs* within the bushes of Vṛndāvana forest. *Rādhā-mādhava kuñja-vihārī.* So He's not only lover of Rādhārāṇī, but *braja-jana-vallabha.* The whole residents of Vṛndāvana, they love Kṛṣṇa. They do not know anything else. They do not know whether Kṛṣṇa is God or not; neither they are very much harassed that "I shall love Kṛṣṇa if He is God." "He may be God or He may be whatever He is—it doesn't matter—but we love God..., Kṛṣṇa." That's all. That is called unalloyed love. "If Kṛṣṇa is God, then I shall love Him"—this is conditional love; this is not pure love. Kṛṣṇa may be God or whatever He may be, but by His wonderful acts, the *vrajavāsī,* they are thinking, "Oh, Kṛṣṇa, He is very wonderful child; maybe some demigod. Maybe some demigod." Because people are generally under impression that the demigods are all-powerful. They're powerful within this material world. But they do not know that Kṛṣṇa is above all of them. *Īśvaraḥ paramaḥ kṛṣṇaḥ sac-cid-ānanda-vigrahaḥ* [Bs. 5.1].* The highest demigod, Brahmā, is giving his opinion: "The supreme controller is Kṛṣṇa." --- **[[../../spoken/1971/710720rc.ny.md|Room Conversation — July 20, 1971, New York]]** *[Lecture file not found]* --- **[[spoken/720720ar.par|Arrival Lecture — July 20, 1972, Paris]]** **Prabhupāda:** ...*saṅkīrtana* movement. This *saṅkīrtana* movement was started by Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu five hundred years ago for mitigating the sufferings of the people of the world. He predicted that in every village, in every town on the surface of the globe, let this *saṅkīrtana* movement be spread out and people will be happy and they'll find Lord Caitanya Mahāprabhu. That was His prediction. Actually, this is happening now. So our simple method—we go everywhere, all over the world, chant this Hare Kṛṣṇa *mahā-mantra,* and we attract people, especially younger generation, boys and girls. Sometimes the newspaper reporters they ask me, "Why these young men and young women, they are very much attracted with this movement?" And I reply, "That is the success of the movement. Because younger generation, they are the flowers, the future hope of the country, of the world. If they take this movement seriously, then the whole world will be happy." Vedic civilization desires that everyone be happy. *Sarve sukhino bhavantu.* Vedic civilization is not animal civilization, exploiting others. Giving something to others. Sometimes the people, they think that India comes to the foreign country to take qualification for earning livelihood. Actually, they come here... When one of my Godbrothers, long ago, he came to England, Lady Willingdon challenged the preacher that "In your country the people come here, they take some degree and go to the back their country and become big man. So what you have got to teach us?" Actually, from materialistic point of view we haven't got to teach to the Western country anything. That's a fact. Because your science, your machine, far advanced. But still there is a great treasure house in India, which is spiritual knowledge. You have to take from India. --- **[[spoken/720720i2.par|Interview — July 20, 1972, Paris]]** **Prabhupāda:** [indistinct] ...this wrong conception should be now. We should know our real identity. Then everything will be all right. We are going on on a wrong concept of life. Therefore people are not happy. So I want to give them the message, spiritual life. If people accept it, they will be happy. **Bhūgarbha**: [translating] He says in history there were many masters and many great teachers such as Jesus Christ, and many others who have come to bring a certain message. He says, "Are we seeing something today of the same level?" **Prabhupāda:** Yes, certainly. Because from God's side there is always an attempt to make the people right. As soon as they're wrongly directed, some messenger comes, like Jesus Christ or Buddha or, before Him, Lord Kṛṣṇa. So what we are preaching, that is not new. It is God consciousness. And all the great messiahs, they came. But the thing is that people are changing in their different education mentality. So we have to present things in such a way so that intelligent person can accept the old teachings in the Western countries, like Lord Jesus Christ. --- **[[spoken/720720iv.par|Interview — July 20, 1972, Paris]]** Haṁsadūta: Yes. Who is actually a candidate to be punished? Are all karmīs engaged in fruitive activities fit to be punished, or only some of them?" **Prabhupāda:** > kathaṁ svid dhriyate daṇḍaḥ > kiṁ vāsya sthānam īpsitam > daṇḍyāḥ kiṁ kāriṇaḥ sarve > āho svit katicin nṛṇām > [[sb/6/1/39|[SB. 6.1.39] ]] So first question was, *brūta dharmasya nas tattvaṁ yac ca adharmasya lakṣaṇam* [[sb/6/1/38|[SB. 6.1.38] ]]. When there is some *vicāra,* judgment, it must be done very nicely. A criminal is judged before the magistrate. He is taken just to make proper judgment, "Whether this man is punishable? He committed some criminal activities." The circumstances, the condition of the mind—everything should be judged. This is called judgment. So who is punishable? *Deśa-kāla-pātra.* There is consideration, *deśa-kāla-pātra. Deśa* means situation, and *kāla,* time, and *pātra,* and the subject. Just like a child, he takes one fruit here. So he is not punishable. According to Vedic system, a child, a woman, a *brāhmaṇa,* a cow and a saintly person, they are not punishable. Cow, woman, saintly person, *brāhmaṇa* and child—they are beyond all laws. Even they commit some... They do not do. They have no criminal purpose. Formerly the women were trained up in such a way, very chaste and obedient. So they had no chance to commit any offense. And *brāhmaṇas,* they are also trained up. *Śamo damaḥ satyaṁ śaucam...* [[bg/18/42|[Bg. 18.42] ]] [children making noise] --- **[[spoken/760720cc.ny|Cc. But here there are so many foreigners, so it fits right in. **Rāmeśvara:** Next year at the Ratha-yātrā they are planning to have a press box, so that the newspapermen and the television cameras can come and film the activities on stage also. Therefore we have to fix up our mind on the lotus feet of Kṛṣṇa. Otherwise there is no way. It is very restless. That is the nature. The *yogīs,* they try to control the mind by mechanical process—*dhyāna, dhāraṇā, āsana, prāṇāyāma.* [break] Cigarette is, I think, advertised, "Nobody is lower than me."
