# July 19 ## Spoken on July 19 *Lectures from this day: 13 recordings* --- **[1971: Śrī Brahma-saṁhitā 5.33 At Deity Installation](spoken/1971/710719bs.ny)** > Vedeṣu durlabham. Vede* means in the Vedic literature, if you make research work how Kṛṣṇa is, then it will be very difficult. Then you come to the impersonal only. *Vedeṣu durlabham.* You have to go beyond the *Vedas.* What is that? *Vedeṣu durlabham adurlabham ātma-bhaktau* [Bs. 5.33]. Kṛṣṇa is available through His confidential devotee. Not that if anyone has studied very nicely all Vedic literatures he'll understand Kṛṣṇa. No. Maybe, but it is very difficult. Kṛṣṇa can be delivered by His devotee, *ātma-bhaktau.* Therefore you have to take shelter of Kṛṣṇa's devotee. That is *paramparā* system. > Advaitam acyutam anādim ananta-rūpam* [Bs. 5.33]. Each and every form, Kṛṣṇa's, they are without any duality. Just like I and my photograph, that is my expansion, but it is not one; it is dual. What service you can take from me, you cannot take the service from the photograph. Therefore it is not *advaita;* it is *dvaita,* duality. You may have millions of photographs, but each one of them, they're different. But Kṛṣṇa, He has got millions of forms, They're one. That is the difference. --- **[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 1.23](spoken/1973/730719bg.lon)** > So... Actually, that is the fact. We cannot understand Kṛṣṇa. But still, whatever Kṛṣṇa says about Himself in the *Bhagavad-gītā,* if we accept so much, then we immediately become fit for going back to Godhead, back to home. Simply. *Janma karma me divyaṁ yo jānāti tattvataḥ*. Tattvataḥ. Tattvataḥ* means in truth. The *tattvataḥ* cannot understand. Even *siddhas,* those who are perfect... > This is Narottama dāsa Ṭhākura's song. Anyone who is not trying to understand Kṛṣṇa... Not even trying, what to speak of worshiping Him, giving Him service. And Kṛṣṇa says simply by trying to know Him, one becomes liberated. Simply by trying; not perfectly. Even imperfectly. Because he is endeavoring to understand Kṛṣṇa, that very activity will make him liberated. That very activity. It is not possible to understand Kṛṣṇa. He is so great, unlimited. How we can understand Kṛṣṇa? Kṛṣṇa cannot understand Himself. Or Ananta cannot understand. --- **[1973: Room Conversation](spoken/1973/730719r1.lon)** > *Vipralambha-sakhya. Aiśvarya, aiśvarya,* opulence. There the Supreme Lord is taken in *aiśvarya,* opulences. Not *aiśvarya-sthiti.* In Vṛndāvana the devotees, they practically do not know that Kṛṣṇa is God. "He is our very beloved friend." That's all. They doesn't care to know whether He is God or not. Here the conception of God. Vaikuṇṭha, "Oh, here is God," with awe and veneration, respect. --- **[1973: Room Conversation with Father Simon and Brother Roger](spoken/1973/730719r3.lon)** > Because what Kṛṣṇa says—that is perfect. Perfect means in any statement where there is no mistake, there is no illusion, there is no cheating. And there is no imperfectness of the senses, that is perfect statement. Our so-called knowledge is gathered by the imperfect senses, our senses are not perfect. Unless we hear about the sun planet, if we see the sun planet by our eyes—direct perception. We see just like a disc; but when you take authoritative statement from geologist and others then you understand that it is so many times bigger than this earth. Therefore, direct perception of the sun globe is not perfect. > The standard of living may be very high but that is not permanent residence. Therefore, Kṛṣṇa says; *mad-dhāma gatvā, punar janma na vidyate*. So, as we are eternal, we must return to eternal world and that is perfection of life. Why should we remain in this temporary life and accept repetition of birth and death? --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750719mw.sf)** > This is the definition, that "As *kāṁsya,* the bell metal, by manipulating with mercury it becomes gold, similarly, a person by the process of *dīkṣā,* initiation, he becomes a *brāhmaṇa.* This is the example he has given. *Yathā kāñcanatāṁ yāti. Kāñcanatāṁ means gold. Rasa vidhānataḥ* by process of mercury manipulation. Why he has not taken other metal? This is in the *śāstra.* And the scientists—I do not know—they say that some, what is called, molecules? Some molecules added with mercury, it can be turned into gold. > "Illicit sex, and slaughterhouse, and liquor shop and gambling." Then he requested that "Instead of going so many places, you give me some place where one place will be sufficient." Then he said, "You go where there is gold. Then you get everything." *Striya-sūnā-pāna-dyūta yatra pāpaś catur-vidhāḥ.* Formerly, especially in Bengal, the gold merchants are taken as—that is artificial, of course—the low class because they are rich, and they indulge in these four kinds of prohibition. --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.37](spoken/1975/750719sb.sf)** > So here in our Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement there are... In all other religious system, they say that "Our this leader is son of God." Somebody says, "He is... Our leader is a servant of God." So now, because you did not know who is the master, who is the father, therefore gradually it has dwindled. Now we must know. The Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is awarding, "Here is the father of the son of God—Kṛṣṇa. Here is the master of the servant." This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So there is no quarrel with other religious system. They know simply the son of God, but they do not know who is the father of the son. That is Kṛṣṇa. *Ahaṁ bīja-pradaḥ pitā.* Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the seed-giving father." Whose father? *Sarva-yoniṣu:* "In all forms of living entity." *Sarva-yoniṣu kaunteya sambhavanti*. > So the Yamadūtas, they very politely submitted. They could understand immediately that these persons so nicely decorated, four hands, looking very youthful, all the good qualities... So with due submission, they said that "You look so nice, gentle. Why you are interfering with our duties?" *Kim arthaṁ dharma-pālasya kiṅkarān no niṣedhatha*. So they accepted the submission. Very humbly they submitted, with great respect. Therefore they were smiling. And the word is used here, *tān pratyūcuḥ prahasya idam.* When there is argument, dealing, if the words are exchanged very politely, so things go on nicely. So *prahasya. Prahasya,* now they are challenging, the Viṣṇudūta, that "You are claiming to become the servants of Yamarāja, and he is Dharmarāja, he is authority, and how is that you do not know whom to arrest and whom not to arrest? This man is now free from all sinful reaction. How is that you are claiming to be servant of Yamarāja, Dharmarāja, and do not know?" Therefore they were smiling. --- **[1976: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.111](spoken/1976/760719cc.ny)** > So actually God is there, and His system is going on in three potencies. In the *Vedas* we learn, *parāsya śaktir vividhaiva śrūyate svābhāvikī jñāna-bala-kriyā ca [Cc Madhya*13.65*, purport]. Parā,* the Supreme Absolute Truth, has many potencies, and all the potencies have been summarized into three. That is stated here: *cit-śakti, jīva-śakti* and *māyā-śakti.Cit-śakti* means spiritual potency, and *jīva-śakti,* living entities. We are also *śakti, prakṛti;* we are not *puruṣa. Puruṣa* means enjoyer, and *prakṛti* means enjoyed. We cannot be the enjoyer; that is not possible. So *śakti...* In the *Bhagavad-gītā* also it is confirmed, *apareyam itas tv viddhi me prakṛtiṁ parām*. > So whatever intelligence we have got, that is not our intelligence; that is God's intelligence. *Mattaḥ smṛtir jñānam apohanaṁ ca*, in the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said. That intelligence is coming, but the intelligence, why you'll find different? So just like the bulb. There are fifteen candlepower, there is fifty candlepower, hundred candlepower—according to the bulb, the energy is exhibited. Similarly, according to our power of reception, we can exhibit our intelligence, merit. But actually it is coming from God. Anything, the same principle. *Janmādy asya yataḥ*, the *Vedānta* philosophy, "Absolute Truth means the original source of everything." Everything may be of different varieties, but the original source is Kṛṣṇa. --- **[1976: Room Conversation](spoken/1976/760719r1.ny)** --- **[1977: Room Conversation with Pranavdas Gupta about Astrology Report](spoken/1977/770719r1.vrn)** > Because we are accepting Kṛṣṇa is the Supreme Person, enjoyer, He is the proprietor, we immediately accept this philosophy. Therefore we are getting little peace. Today I am thinking of massaging with oil. What do you think? > Bhagatjī:* [Transl. Yes. You are right Prabhupāda. From the beginning you make mango chutney, you make amee or pieces of mango, and you make unripe mango *panna* [drink]. These are all for counteracting heat wave. And when they are ripe you start to eat or make pickle.] --- ## Letters on July 19 *Letters from this day: 18* --- **[1970: Letter to Damodara](letters/1970/700719_damodara)** > You were for some time feeling agitation and now Krsna has blessed you with a very nice, qualified wife who is an enthusiastic devotee as well.
