**Indian man (2):** Another one, Guru Mahārāj-jī, they are taking our picture and selling all Christian books as religion education, moral education. And this is the tools. These people little cunning, eh? When it comes to my knowledge, I was almost...
**Indian man (2):** Hare Kṛṣṇa. And they are selling all these Christian books in the schools and all over.
**Indian man (2):** But what inside... [showing pamphlet?] They say religion and moral education books, and all this... So actually, they should take our permission also. So this will sell our books. And our organization, not theirs, those... confusing the people.

**Bali-mardana:** Yes, I have told him he is waiting for the date. 'Cause Jayatīrtha..., they have not fixed up the flight number yet.
**Bali-mardana:** **...sanctifying the whole world by your footsteps. You are criss-crossing the world.
**Prabhupāda:** That is stated in the *śāstra: tīrthī-kurvanti tīrthāni svāntaḥ-sthena gadābhṛtā.* Because a pure devotee carries Kṛṣṇa within his heart, therefore wherever he goes he makes a holy place. It is said in the *śāstra.* So not me, but every one of you, if you are pure devotee of Kṛṣṇa, then wherever you'll go, that is a holy place. *Tīrthī-kurvanti tīrthāni svāntaḥ...* To become *sannyāsī* means that, that he'll be pure devotee, and wherever he will go, he will be purify. That is *sannyāsa* means. *Mahad-vicalaṁ nṛnāṁ gṛhināṁ dīna-cetasām. Mahātmās,* they'll travel so that the householders, who are cripple-minded and full of sinful activities, they'll go there and make them purified. This is the idea of *sannyāsa.* And in the Vedic civilization a *brahmacārī* and a *sannyāsī* has open door. There is no restriction. No "Beware of dog." [laughter] But now they are prohibited. I have got practical experience. After my *sannyāsa,* when I was touring India, so in Ahmedabad..., or Baroda, I was entering one man's house. So he was standing on the balcony. [laughter]

"Mother, are you the reservoir of all... Mother, you are the reservoir of all riches. Please inform me of the root cause of your tribulations by which you have been reduced to such a weak state. I think that the powerful influence of time, which conquers the most powerful, might have forcibly taken away all your fortune, which was adored even by the demigods."
**Prabhupāda:** > idaṁ hi mamācakṣva tavādhi-mūlaṁ > vasundhare yena vikarśitāsi > kālena vā te balināṁ balīyasā > surārcitaṁ kiṁ hṛtam amba saubhagam > [[sb/1/16/24|[SB. 1.16.24] ]]

**Prabhupāda:** Both sides forest. [break] Now in America there is no sufficient men to live in all these places, to cut, clear it and make cottages and utilize the land for producing. There is no sufficient men, I think. And where there is overpopulation, why not invite them to come here? That they will not do. [break] ...has given sufficient land for all the people, but we have made artificial national area. Will not allow.
**Prabhupāda:** Yes. These places also should be allowed to the people who are overpopulated. No visa, no immigration. The whole world is simply mismanaged for want of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. *Pramattaḥ.* The word used, *pramattaḥ,* mad. *Nūnaṁ pramattaḥ kurute vikarma* [[sb/5/5/4|[SB. 5.5.4] ]]: "All people mad and engaged in misdeeds only for sense gratification." [break] ...this room?
**Ravīndra-svarūpa:** Yes, all along this creek there's a forest like this. This has been done in Philadelphia all along the river, and this huge area of land has been set aside. It's like this. No one can use it except to take walks. [break]

**Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] Sixth Canto, First Chapter, verse number 30. [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
"My dear King, the order carriers of Viṣṇu, upon hearing the chanting of the holy name of their master, Nārāyaṇa, being offenselessly chanted by Ajāmila, who was in great anxiety at the time of his death, immediately arrived on the scene."
**Prabhupāda:** > niśamya mriyamāṇasya > mukhato hari-kīrtanam > bhartur nāma mahārāja > pārṣadāḥ sahasāpatan > [[sb/6/1/30|[SB. 6.1.30] ]]

**[[spoken/760714i2.ny|Interview with Newsday Newspaper — July 14, 1976, New York]]**
**Rāmeśvara:** Śrīla Prabhupāda? These gentlemen are a reporter and a photographer from a very large newspaper in Long Island called *Newsday.* This is Mr. Kevin Layhart, he's the reporter...
Kevin Layhart*:* ...I wonder if you could tell me how you came to founding the movement here in the United States.
**Prabhupāda:** I was ordered by my spiritual master to do this work, so on his order I came in 1965. That is the beginning of this movement. I came alone with no help, no money. Somehow or other [laughs] I started.
---
**[[spoken/760714iv.ny|Interview with Newsweek — July 14, 1976, New York]]**
**Rāmeśvara:** ...from our public relations firm. She's assisting us in arranging for these interviews. We were just meeting with Wanda and telling her a little bit about how you began the Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement here in America.
**Interviewer* [Wanda]:* Well, perhaps you could continue where they left off. Could you tell me why you came to the United States in 1965? Did you feel that this was a mission that you had to fulfill?
**Prabhupāda:** Yes, not only United States, but everywhere people do not know what is spiritual life. They have no knowledge how to develop spiritual life, although it is... The only business of human form of life is to understand spiritual life.

**[[spoken/760714mw.ny|Morning Walk — July 14, 1976, New York]]**
**Rāmeśvara:** Yes, and we tried to prove to him that he was afraid of death and we are not. We are better situated.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** Prabhupāda wants to know how did he actually try to kidnap you: by telling you, or by his philosophy?
**Prabhupāda:** *Yan maithunādi-gṛhamedhi-sukhaṁ hi tuccham* [[sb/7/9/45|[SB. 7.9.45] ]]. That is already mentioned. Unless one understands that there is another life, sex life is the only pleasure. That will keep him perpetually conditioned.

**Prabhupāda:** > yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā > sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ > [[sb/5/18/12|[SB. 5.18.12] ]]
**Prabhupāda:** Hare Kṛṣṇa. Now, things are becoming graver. Very soberly consider, and do the needful. It may not be broken. Always keep in mind. We are growing; There will be so many troubles, that's a fact, that it must be very gravely think also.
**Rāmeśvara:** Yes. We took him to the restaurant, and he ate the *prasādam*; he liked it. And he asked some very good questions also of myself and Bali-mardana.

**Prabhupāda:** ...actually what benefit to the human society? But technology, or high technology. Just like Indian technology. [break]
**Prabhupāda:** In India the caste system was very good. From the very beginning the children would learn the technology of their paternal. Just like potter. You'll see the children of the potter, they are also making something—a small bird, a small fruit—and they would be sold. A small playing utensils—small glass, small plate—they're also sold. Other children would purchase. The whole family used to earn something. Nowadays they're sent to school, wasting time, and then unemployment and idle brain. What is the use of sending a potter's son to school?
**Prabhupāda:** That's what I... Similarly weaver, that cloth weaving, *"kut-kut."* The wife is spinning, her husband is weaving, the children is weaving, and combinedly at the end of the day there is a cloth. And people were satisfied with simple necessities. They would not charge very much for the labor. And one nice cloth requires half a pound cotton. Half a pound cotton means maybe one rupee. Another one rupee for the labor. So now they are paying twenty to thirty rupees. Unnecessarily he has to earn this money and pay to the millionaires, and he will keep three dozen motorcars, so another man will be engaged in motorcar industry. In this way time is being wasted without any search after spiritual realization. Time is wasted in such so-called technology advancement. And the real purpose of life, *jīvasya tattva-jijñāsā *[[sb/1/2/10|[SB. 1.2.10] ]], that is missing. And when you present that "This is the most important business of life," they say, "It is brainwashing." And they fight to check us, Communists and others, that "It is useless, God consciousness."

**Bhāgavatāśraya:** ...ground floor restaurant. So it would take eighteen months to build the building. And then the idea is that we can have the ground floor for our restaurant.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** New Delhi will like it. New Delhi people will appreciate a vegetarian restaurant. So I think there's some pleasing news, Śrīla Prabhupāda. This is from..., sent by Baradrāj Prabhu. It's a letter.
**Bhāgavatāśraya:** Oh, yes. We are redecorating everything inside. We've painted to about four feet off the ground with some gloss paint and then nice distemper. And I've spent, oh, a lot of money, around two thousand rupees on the whole temple. Temple room, Deity room, kitchens, everything. We're painting it all. And now Bhakti-caitanya Swami, he will have his office there. BBT office will be in Delhi. It is very good arrangement.
