**[1968: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 7.9.10](spoken/1968/680710sb.mon)**
> And when that faith is very much concentrated, then one can understand Kṛṣṇa. *Viśvāsa śabde sudṛdha-niścaya, kṛṣṇe bhakti kaile sarva-karma kṛta haya*. This is called strong faith, or firm faith. What is that firm faith? When one is convinced that "If I am Kṛṣṇa conscious, then all my duties will be perfect." And that is the fact. *Saṁsiddhir hari-toṣaṇam*.
> So *saṁskārād bhaved dvijaḥ.* By reformation, by following the regulative principle of how to elevate oneself to the knowledge of Brahman... That is called *saṁskāra.* There are ten kinds of *saṁskāras,* reformatory. This Vedic system is very scientific system to elevate the humankind to the highest perfection of life. So *saṁskārād bhaved dvijaḥ.* Then, when the *saṁskāra* is given, when his..., the spiritual master sees that "This boy is now competent to study *Vedas...*" That requires a qualification. A *śūdra* is not allowed to study *Vedas.* There is restriction.

**[1971: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 5.18.12](spoken/1971/710710sb.la)**
> Simply our ambition should be to serve Him. Never mind whether I am in America or I am in India or Vṛndāvana, or hell or heaven—doesn't matter. Kṛṣṇa can be always with us. If we chant Hare Kṛṣṇa, then Kṛṣṇa is with you. Wherever you go, Kṛṣṇa is with you. That is wanted. We shall not forget for a single moment Kṛṣṇa. This is called *akiñcanā-bhakti.* Unadulterated. Pure.
> You haven't got to endeavor separately for becoming honest, moral or faithful. As soon as we become a Kṛṣṇa conscious person, all these qualities will develop. By one stroke we kill so many birds. This is the secret of success. So we should try to become unalloyed devotee. And the process is very simple: to chant sixteen rounds Hare Kṛṣṇa *mantra* and to observe the four restrictive principles. That's all.

**[1973: Bhagavad-gītā 1.4–5](spoken/1973/730710bg.lon)**
> We have read the other day in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam,* there are three kinds of miserable condition of life, *bhūtātma-hetavaḥ*. The cause... They are caused by three principles: *ādhyātmika, ādhibhautika, ādhidaivika. Daiva-bhūtātma-hetavaḥ.* These are all described in the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam. Daiva* means controlled by the higher demigods. Just like famine or earthquake, this is not under your control. At any time the earthquake there may be. There may be famine. There may be pestilence. There may be natural disturbance, flood. This is called *daiva,* controlled by higher demigods. Just like Indra wanted to overflood Vṛndāvana, being angry upon the residents of the... Kṛṣṇa saved, Giridhārī. He became Giridhārī.
> So here is another list of fighters. But the real purpose of this battlefield is to bring all the fighters, big fighters of the world, together. And under Kṛṣṇa's guidance they would be all killed. *Nimitta-mātraṁ bhava savyasācin*. When Arjuna was declining to fight, Kṛṣṇa ultimately said, "My dear Arjuna, you fight or not fight, it doesn't matter. These people are not going back home. It is already settled up. You simply become..., take the credit that you have fought and killed. It is al... They are already killed, because that is My plan." *Nimitta-mātraṁ bhava savyasācin.* They are already killed.

**[1973: Conversation with Mr. Wadell [Boy School Teacher](spoken/1973/730710r1.lon)**
> So our Vedic injunction is that *sa vai puṁsāṁ paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhokṣaje* : "That system of religion is perfect which teaches how to love God." It doesn't matter, Christian religion, Hindu religion, Muhammadan religion. It doesn't matter. But God minus, this is the present position. Everyone wants to make minus God everything. This is going on. They have no clear idea. If I want to love you, I must have a clear idea of you. On vague idea, I cannot love. But they have no clear idea what is God. So how they can love God? And because they have failed to love God, all the so-called love—humanitarian, philanthropic works and, you know—they have become useless.
> And this is our difficulty, as I see it, in relating ourselves to God, that although we make many statements about Him which are often picturesque ones... We say that He is almighty, that He can, in our religion, move mountains, or all sorts of separate statements like that. If you take all those statements together, they wouldn't really describe Him at all, not sufficiently.

**[1974: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.16.20](spoken/1974/740710sb.la)**
> Now, sometimes in..., the Christians, they say the Lord Jesus Christ sometimes ate fish. Is not that? But... Might have done so. One thing is, Christ is powerful. Under certain circumstances, even if he had eaten some fish, that is not fault for him. *Tejīyasāṁ na doṣāya*. In the *śāstra* says those who are very powerful, if they sometimes do something which is prohibited for common man, that is special case. But even if you accept that "Christ ate fish, therefore we shall eat meat and maintain big, big slaughterhouse," although in the Bible it is clearly said, "Thou shall not kill," this is not Christianity. This is against, violating the rules and regulation of Christianity. Factually, one should not kill. But under some pressure or under certain condition, if it is needed, that is another thing. But generally, one should not kill.
> So *yajña* is required. Human life is meant for performing *yajña. Karma, yajñaḥ karma-samudbhavaḥ*. In the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is clearly said. *Karma... Karma* means activity. There must be activity. It is not that because we are interested in self-realization, in the elevation of the soul to the spiritual world, that does not mean we shall be idle and lazy. No. You cannot be idle and lazy, because if you become idle and lazy, you cannot even maintain your body. That is advised in *Bhagavad-gītā.* You have to become busy and active. That is required. Even if you want to go to heaven, then also you have to become busy and active. If you want to go back to home, back to Godhead, that also will require your busyness and activity. And if you want to remain here in this material world, that also required. Activity you cannot stop, but we have to consider the quality of activity. Quality of activity is *bhakti.* You have to work. You cannot remain inactive or lazy. You have to work.

**[1975: Lecture and Initiation](spoken/1975/750710in.chi)**
> Yajña,* sacrifice... *Yajña-dāna-tapaḥ-kriyā.* Human life is meant for performing *yajña,* give in charity and practice austerities—three things. Human life means that. Human life does not mean to live like cats and dogs. That is failure. That kind of civilization, dog civilization, is failure of human life. Human life is meant for three things: *yajña-dāna-tapaḥ-kriyā.* One should know how to perform sacrifices, how to give in charity and how to practice austerities. This is human life. So *yajña-dāna-tapasyā,* in other ages they were performing according to the means. Just like in the Satya-yuga, Vālmīki Muni, he practiced austerities, meditation, for sixty thousands of years. At that time people were living one hundred thousands of years. That is not possible now. Meditation was possible in those ages, but now it is not possible. Therefore the *śāstra* recommends that *yajñaiḥ saṅkīrtana-prāyaiḥ:* "You perform this *yajña, saṅkīrtana.*" So by performing *saṅkīrtana-yajña,* you can get the same result. As Vālmīki Muni got the result after meditation of sixty thousands of years, you can have the same result simply by performing *saṅkīrtana-yajña* maybe a few days. It is so kindness.
> Caitanya Mahāprabhu desired that in every village, every town, every county, every city, this *saṅkīrtana* movement will be there, and people will feel obliged to Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu: "My Lord, You have given us so sublime thing." This is the prediction. Simply we have to try our best. So it is not very difficult. You have installed the Deity. Take in different buses and go from city to city, town to town, village to village. And you have got now experience, so expand this movement. As I have repeatedly told you that your country, America, is fortunate, and they require only this, *saṅkīrtana.* Then they will be perfect.

> ...in the Dallas there is no problem. Educate the girls how to become faithful, chaste wife and how to cook nicely. Let them learn varieties of cooking.

**[1976: Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Madhya-līlā 20.104](spoken/1976/760710cc.ny)**
> In the *Bhagavad-gītā* you'll find this knowledge, *kṣetra-kṣetrajñaḥ.* Kṛṣṇa says that "This body is called *kṣetra.*" Arjuna inquired from Kṛṣṇa, "What is *kṣetra,* what is *kṣetrajñaḥ,* what is *jñāna,* and what is subject matter of *jñāna*?" So Kṛṣṇa answered that *kṣetra* means this body, and *kṣetrajñaḥ* means one who knows that "This is my body." He is *kṣetrajñaḥ.* You study your own body. You study your finger. You'll never say "I finger"; "My finger." Nobody says. Even a small child, you ask him, "What is this?" He'll say "My finger." He'll never say "I finger." I am not finger. I'm not this. So one who knows that this body is mine, that is *kṣetra,* ah, *kṣetrajñaḥ.* And the body is *kṣetra.Ksetra* means the field of activities. We have got this body, field of activities. We are very much proud of civilized... But subject matter is the same. The dog is thinking, "I am this body." He is jumping with four legs, and you are jumping with four wheels, that's all. Because the knowledge is the same, that "I am this body." There is no improvement. So we are thinking that "Dog is running on the street without any car, and we have got a nice car we are running, so therefore we are civilized." No. This is not civilization. This is the same civilization as the dog and cat has got. *Sa eva go-kharaḥ.
> So we have to go to a person who is as good as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu. As good... How one can become as Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu? He is God. How another man can become as good as Caitanya Mahāprabhu? Then he is also God? No. He doesn't require to be God, and neither he can ever become God. That is false. Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu's equal person means one who speaks the exactly what Caitanya Mahāprabhu speaks. That makes him equal. He doesn't manufacture. If you simply repeat what Kṛṣṇa says or Caitanya Mahāprabhu says, "Then you become equal to Me." Equal to Me? That is *guru. Guru* means who is equal. *Sākṣād dharitvena samasta-śāstrair uktas tathā bhāvyata eva sadbhiḥ.* Why *guru* is accepted as God Himself? Does it mean Māyāvāda philosophy? No. This is not Māyāvāda. Because he is most confidential servant of God—*kintu prabhor yaḥ priya eva tasya—*therefore he's as good as God. He is very, very dear to God. Why? Because he does not speak anything nonsense what his master does not say, that's all. That is the qualification. Still, "No, I see that his son addresses him 'father.' He is the father, considering him as ordinary man. And still he's as good as God?" Yes. Still he's as good. Why? Because he does not speak anything nonsense except what he has heard from God. That is the qualification.

> Rāmakṛṣṇa*...know exactly what is happening, once we commonize the kitchen, the office, accounting chain and everything. At present we are slightly under capital, small space, but... *Gurukula* is coming out very well. In fact we met the contractor yesterday. So we're hoping that by next month this time the whole thing should be shifted and so many more guestrooms will be released for people coming here for the festival. Possibilities are very good.
> RāmakṛṣṇaThings are... I think it will be matter of one month's time before we'll be able to centralize everything. Just now, at this moment, of course, we are operating slightly in different areas. But next month by this date we should be able to...
