So Prahlāda Mahārāja has decided that any material qualification is not, I mean to say, the prerogative or any preferential admission or fee for entering into the kingdom of God. So he is explaining furthermore how it is so. He says,

**Prabhupāda:** ...recently I heard that the people in the airport protested against Indira Gandhi, that "Give us rain." Yes. That is Vedic civilization, ideal. Why there is rain then no rain? The king should be responsible. One *brāhmaṇa* lost his son. He immediately went to the king and asked him that "The son has died before the death of the father. Why this irregularity? You are responsible." You see?
The ideal is that king is representative of God. Because we are all sons of God. We have come here in this material world for our proper guidance. The king is responsible, the spiritual master is responsible, the father is responsible, the elderly persons are responsible. Because you told me that we have to work for other. That other is Kṛṣṇa. If we utilize our intelligence for serving Kṛṣṇa under the guidance of the king or the spiritual master or the father, then the society is perfect. That is ideal civilization. What is your opinion about this? How do you think this ideal...
**David Wynne:** I think it's... I... I... I wonder when it will come. Will it come on this level or what...?

**Prabhupāda:** Give him chance, alright. [indistinct] Just like there are many men they're taking care of the body in order to become like elephant. You either become elephant or tiger or anything, you'll have to die. And if you so desire, alright next life, you becomne elephant or tiger. That's all. Nature will give you the chance. You haven't got to try for all these things. You have to try only for Krsna. *tasyaiva hetoḥ prayateta kovido* [[sb/1/5/18|[SB. 1.5.18] ]]
That is intelligence. Simply for Kṛṣṇa. There is simply to understand Kṛṣṇa. Anything else—waste of time. But in Kṛṣṇa's connection there are varieties. Now just like this. What is called this?
**Prabhupāda:** Movie camera.** So, utilizing for Kṛṣṇa's purpose. So automatically you learn what is movie camera. Everything we are using. It is not that, we are using everything for sense gratification—for Kṛṣṇa. [indistinct] only used for Kṛṣṇa, the movie camera [indistinct] living in very comfortable room. Everything is being utilized. Why you should give it up. If by living in a comfortable room taking advantage of this modern invention I can serve better Kṛṣṇa. Why should I not take it. Does it mean although the Dictaphone is there, still I shall write in my hand? Kṛṣṇa consciousness cannot touch this. We don't follow this nonsense philosophy, unnecessary *vairāgya. Śuṣka-vairāgya,* dry knowledge.

**Prabhupāda:** Now if they say that the killing means murdering, that means the people amongst whom Christ was preaching, they were accustomed to kill men. So what class of men they are? What was the society? A society of murderers. So what they will understand about religion, a murderer?
**Jayatīrtha:** We should probably turn around now, Śrīla Prabhupāda. [pause] If you're preaching honesty to a thief, you have to be careful that he's not stealing your watch in the meantime.
**Jayatīrtha:** If you're preaching honesty to a thief, he may steal your watch. So Jesus was trying to teach religion to murderers, so they murdered him.

"*Dharma* [in the form of bull] asked: Madam, are you not hail and hearty? Why are you covered with the shadow of grief? It appears by your face that you have become black. Are you suffering from some internal disease, or are you thinking of some relative who is away in a distant place?"
Actually, the cows... When I was in New Vrindavan, our Kīrtanānanda Mahārāja purchased one cow without calf. [children talking]

**[[spoken/750709iv.chi|Television Interview — July 9, 1975, Chicago]]**
**Woman reporter:** When you came to Chicago last week you said you were going to tell us some of the solutions to our problems in this country. Can you tell me what some of those solutions are?
**Prabhupāda:** Solution not only of your country or our country; it is the solution for the whole human society. I told that as there are different divisions in the same body—the head, the arms, the belly, and the leg... Although the body is one, but there are different parts for different function. Then the body is going nicely. The head is the most important part of the body. So if the head is not in order, then, in spite of presentation of other parts of the body—hands, leg—the body is useless. Just like a madman: madman, this brain is not in order. Therefore despite the presentation of the hands, legs and other things, it is useless. Similarly, the human society should be divided into four classes according to quality. Not everyone is on the same level. So for..., even for material purposes there must be four divisions: first class, second class, third class, fourth class, means... [aside:] The definition of the first class, find out. This is the definition of the first-class man.
**Nitāi:** > śamo damas tapaḥ śaucaṁ > kṣāntir ārjavam eva ca > jñānaṁ vijñānam āstikyaṁ > brahma-karma svabhāva-jam > [[bg/18/42|[Bg. 18.42] ]]

**Brahmānanda:** You were also saying that the psychology of the abortion is that the parents do not want to take the trouble...
**Prabhupāda:** Otherwise, what is the reason? They know there are so many troubles. To avoid the troubles, "Kill this." That's all. So to save trouble, people are prepared to kill child even.
**Brahmānanda:** And that's considered advancement in modern life, to remove trouble. The whole life is conveniences, remove trouble. That shows they will go to any extent.

**Prabhupāda:** > oṁ ajñāna-timirāndhasya > jñānāñjana-śalākayā > cakṣur unmīlitaṁ yena > tasmai śrī-gurave namaḥ > [Gautamīya-tantra 7.11]
["I was born in the darkest ignorance, and my spiritual master opened my eyes with the torch of knowledge. I offer my respectful obeisances unto him."]
Ladies and gentlemen, regarding Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement... [about microphone:] It is working? We are talking about the spiritual existence of the living being. By evolutionary process we come to the human form of life, and here we have got developed consciousness. We can decide now which way to go forward. There are different planetary system. That we can experience. We can see innumerable planets, upwards and downwards. So the upper planetary system is called Svargaloka, or the heavenly planets, and the middle planetary system is called Martyaloka or Bhuloka, in which we are staying at the present moment, and the down planetary system is called Pātālaloka or downwards. Downwards means fall down; upwards means getting promotion; and middle means we remain where we are now. That is... Indication is given in the *Bhagavad-gītā, ūrdhvaṁ gacchanti sattva-sthā* [[bg/14/18|[Bg. 14.18] ]]:

**Prabhupāda:** ....she avoid that question. [laughter] Where is the independence? Eh? Where is the independence of woman that she has to carry the weight of the pregnancy and the man is free? What is the answer to this question? Hmm? Answer, Viśākhā.
**Prabhupāda:** So she is already dependent on nature's law that man is free from becoming pregnant and the woman has to take the burden. Then where is the independence, equal right? Equal right means sometimes man may become pregnant, sometimes woman may become pregnant. But why only womans should become pregnant and the man goes away, and she has to take care of the children, beg from government or this and that? Is that independence? Eh?
**Satsvarūpa:** For them, the independence has become contraception. "I don't have to have the child," they say.

**Nitāi:** "The child's broken language and movements were very pleasing to Ajāmila, who was very attracted to the child. He always took care of the child and enjoyed his activities."
**Prabhupāda:** > sa baddha-hṛdayas tasminn > arbhake kala-bhāṣiṇi > nirīkṣamāṇas tal-līlāṁ > mumude jaraṭho bhṛśam > [[sb/6/1/25|[SB. 6.1.25] ]]
So this is called material attachment. He is very much attached to the child, but he does not know this will break; this attachment will not endure. When the child is grown up, neither the father will have so much attachment, nor the child will have so much... This is called material world. But the same attachment is there in the spiritual world. Just like Mother Yaśodā, Mahārāja Nanda, he is attached to Kṛṣṇa. They are also enjoying the same way, but that enjoyment is never broken. That is the difference. This attachment between father and son or mother and son in this material world, it will not stay. It will break, today or tomorrow. That is the nature.

**[[spoken/760709ad.ny|Arrival Address — July 9, 1976, New York]]**
**Prabhupāda:** So first of all I must thank you all for bringing me in this new temple, because when I first came, my ambition was to start temple here in New York, and I was seeking the opportunity living in the Seventy-second Street. There was a house, very small house, one thousand feet space—25 feet by 100 feet. So they wanted \$100,000. So I wrote one rich friend in India, industrialist—perhaps you know him, that Kanpurwalla, Padampat Singh, Singhania. So he agreed to pay me, but the government did not allow. The Indian government did not allow to transfer money from India to here. Then I approached the, what is that, Salvation Army, the chief man. I offered him that "You are spending money in India. So I have got a friend, he'll pay you, you pay me here." So he asked me, "What is the rate you want to pay me?" So I told him, "The present rate is five dollars..., five rupees per dollar." So he remained silent. That means he wanted more. In this way I had no place. What to speak of temple, I had no residential place even. So in that condition I was thinking of returning back to India. So the shipping company I was, practically every week, I was going.
So it is a long history that I came here with determination to start a temple in New York first, but at that time, ten years before, in 1965, it was not possible. But by the grace of Kṛṣṇa, by the grace of my Guru Mahārāja, you have got this place. So I must thank you very much for organizing this temple. Actually, in this line of Kṛṣṇa consciousness, two things are very important. Caitanya Mahāprabhu said in His teaching to Rūpa Gosvāmī,

**Rāmeśvara:** I met with Gurukṛpā Swami, Śrīla Prabhupāda, and he has just transferred from the Japanese collections 125,000 dollars. He is writing one letter.
