**Prabhupāda:** ...but our system is... Just like a beautiful dead body. A very beautiful, nice girl, she is appreciated by everyone. But when that girl is dead, then although the body is there, the so-called beauty is there, nobody accepts it. Is it not a fact?
**Prabhupāda:** Similarly... Anyhow, I'm traveling all over the world—European cities, American cities I've seen—but wherever I go I see that ...
[break] ... the same boys, four or five years ago, but two or three years ago, he was living in the same country, the same atmosphere, but now they are called bright faces. Why?

**Devotees:** All glories to Śrī Guru and Gauranga. All glories to His Divine Grace Śrīla Prabhup**ā**da. [devotees offer obeisances]
So the Indians who are outside India, they have got a special duty. So far our economic condition is concerned, as I explained yesterday, that one is destined to certain material comforts and discomforts, according to his body. Already he has got. So either you stay in India or stay in America, the bodily comforts, or sense gratification, that will be achieved either in India, America. What you are destined to achieve, you will have it, because as soon as your body is manufactured, your standard of comfort and discomfort is also manufactured. In Bengal there is a proverb that *yadi yāo baṅge kapāla yābe saṅge*: "Wherever you go, your fortune will go with you." Fortune and misfortune, that will also go with you.
So Caitanya Mahāprabhu said one thing, that "Any Indian, any man who has taken birth on the soil of *Bhārata-varṣa*, India, he has got a special duty. That duty is to spread Kṛṣṇa consciousness."

...foolish men; *mānuṣīm—*in a human form; *tanum—*body; *āśritam—*assuming; *param—*transcendental; *bhāvam—*nature; *ajānantaḥ—*not knowing; *mama*—Mine; *bhūta—*everything that be; *maheśvaram—*supreme proprietor.
**Translation:** "Fools deride Me when I descend in the human form. They do not know My transcendental nature and My supreme dominion over all that be."

**Prabhupāda:** > idaṁ tu te guhya-tamaṁ > pravakṣyāmy anasūyave > jñānaṁ vijñāna-sahitaṁ > yaj jñātvā mokṣyase 'śubhāt > [[bg/9/1|[Bg. 9.1] ]]
I am speaking... [aside:] that child; disturbance ...from *Bhagavad-gītā*, ninth chapter. *Śrī-bhagavān uvāca*. In every chapter you will find this word, *śrī-bhagavān uvāca*. *Bhagavān* means the...
**Prabhupāda:** *Bhagavān* means the Supreme Personality of Godhead. *Bhaga*. *Bhaga* means "opulence," and *vān* means "one who possesses." So God means "who possesses all the opulences in fullness." He is called Bhagavān. The definition of God is "He is the richest, He is the strongest, He is the most beautiful, He is the wisest, He is the most renounced." In this way, you analyze. There are many rich men, but nobody can say that "I am the richest of all." That is not possible, because there is competition. If I am rich, you are richer than me, another richer than you, another richer than him. So nobody can say that "I am the richest of all." That only God can say. So in this way, where you find the Supreme, Supreme Being... The word *God* is defined in dictionary as the Supreme Being. What is that Supreme Being? The richest, the strongest, the most beautiful, the wisest, the most renounced—in this way.

**Prabhupāda:** Nārada Muni was cursed, accepted one curse. And Dakṣa-rāja said that "I curse you that you will [not] stay anywhere." So he said, "Yes, that is very good for me." [laughs] He could curse, counter, but he accepted, "Yes, it is a very good curse. I shall not stay anywhere." "You have spoiled my children to become mendicant, go back to home, back to Godhead. They did not enjoy this material world. You are so heinous," like that. Our students' parents, they are also thinking, "What is this nonsense, no meat-eating, no illicit sex? The enjoyment of life, everything is spoiled. They are becoming *sannyāsī.*" So they are cursing me.
**Prabhupāda:** [laughs] He also said. Yes, they are thinking it is hypnotism. "All young men, their life is for this material enjoyment, and they are giving up everything and chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa? What is this?"
**Brahmānanda:** I don't know his name. He lives in..., across, on the other side there, where the bank is.

**Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.* [devotees repeat] [leads chanting of verse, etc.]
*sadhrīcīnaḥ—*just appropriate; *hi*—certainly; *ayam—*this; *loke—*in the world; *panthāḥ-path*; *kṣemaḥ—*auspicious; *akutaḥ-bhayaḥ—*without fear; *su-śīlāḥ—*well behaved; *sādhavaḥ—*saintly persons; *yatra—*wherein; *nārāyaṇa-parāyaṇāḥ—*those who have taken the path of Nārāyaṇa, devotional service, as their life and soul.
"In this material world, following the path of the pure devotees who are well behaved and completely endowed with first-class qualifications due to their having fully taken to the service of Nārāyaṇa as their life and soul is certainly the most auspicious, without any fear, and authorized by the śāstra."

**[[spoken/760630iv.whe|Interview with Mike Darby, Wheeling Intelligencer — June 30, 1976, Wheeling, W. Virginia]]**
*[Mike Darby was a long-time admirer of Prabhupāda and was well-informed about **Kṛṣṇa consciousness**]*
**Prabhupāda:** There are so many factories for four-wheel vehicles, and there is no factory to educate man to the right path. Perhaps... This is our little attempt, this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement, how to educate to the right path. We are not getting any help, either from the authority... In our own way, as far as possible, we are doing. When people will be educated they will be able to understand who is *guru,* who is not *guru.* We can say, but who is going to accept? We say always that they are all rascals, but who will accept our statement? And the state, there had been a department to see what is the qualification of *guru,* then immediately they would have taken steps. Just like in Kṛṣṇa's time one man falsely presented himself as God, immediately his head was cut off. Pauṇḍraka. So the state must be very strong to punish the miscreant. But there is no such state.
**Prabhupāda:** So it is the duty of the Christians. But they are also... What can I say? They are passing resolution according to the time, changing the instruction of *Bible.* How they can be fixed-up? Our standard is *Bhagavad-gītā As It Is.* We accept *guru* as representative of Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. If he speaks what Kṛṣṇa has spoken, then he is *guru.* Similarly in Christianity, if they actually take care that whether one is speaking according to the Ten Commandments, if he is living according to the rules and regulations of the Ten Commandments, then he is *guru.* Now why people accept them? Because they are in ignorance; they do not know who is real and who is fake. But the standard is there. Take for example in the *Bible,* it is said, "Thou shall not kill." But everyone is killing. Killing is the business of the Christians. They are maintaining big, big slaughterhouse. We are maintaining cows here, and there are others, they are maintaining cows for slaughtering. Why? In these Commandments it is clearly said that "Thou shall not kill." How they will detect? If they are violating themselves the laws, how they will punish the lawbreaker? "Physician, heal thyself." The physician himself is diseased, and he's going to treat other patients.

**Prabhupāda:** Guru Mahārāja, he saw this. Now I remember those days, when he was instructing, "Do like this. Do like this." At that time, I could not understand: "Oh, why he's talking to me?" He wanted.
The spirit is there. But many, many men, and may not...[indistinct] So just attempt. Ask him. Bring some books when you leave. Then construct a... No, He is giving. Kṛṣṇa is giving money. Within few days you have collected fifty thousand. Where is the scarcity of money?
**Prabhupāda:** [laughs] Money is coming there. Guru Mahārāja said that "You do the right work, money will come. Money will fall down on your feet." There is no question of flattering. Do. Work sincerely. Everything will come, whatever you want. I wish I could go there. I would have told[?]. Even in this state I can go; there is no difficulty. But little difficulty... And carried in this chair, I can go anywhere. There is no difficulty. No, where is the difficulty?

**Prabhupāda:** Because we are materially attached, so there is temporary inconvenience. *Tāṁs titikṣasva bhārata* [[bg/2/14|[Bg. 2.14] ]]: "Tolerate." Don't be puffed up, "Oh, after giving so many..." Oh.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** ...is flying in an airplane from Los Angeles to India via Hawaii, but in the picture that we have drawn, there is no way you can go from Los Angeles to India via Hawaii. If you go this direction, from Los Angeles, say, this way, you don't come to India. India's over here according to our description. Yet when they take a flight, they say, "We go around the earth." But we say, "You cannot go around the earth." So far, our understanding... So far—unless we have not completely understood yet—it is like a lotus, Jambūdvīpa, and the whole Bhū-maṇḍala is like a lotus. So how do... You cannot fly around Bhārata-varṣa, or earth. Yet every day the whole science of aeronautics, of flying, is based upon the fact that they're flying around different places of the earth. And everyone who sees this, that, our description, is going to ask this question. It's a very important question to answer, and Bhakti-prema has not yet answered it. None of us can. We are avoiding it at this point until we get further information. There must be an answer, but we have not yet been able to give the answer. I have absolute faith in these..., in the Vedic description. I am completely convin... I just know that I have not understood perfectly yet. Therefore the answer's not apparent. But it's definitely a question that they will raise. [break]
**Akṣayānanda:** He's been looking at all our management and giving very good advice. The first day he was helping me on the devotee side. Then, for the last couple of days he was looking in the guesthouse side, and...

**Prabhupāda:** Like an ass. Have you not seen the ass? Can anyone work like that? The animal is so small, and the load is ten times than his body's weight. You have not seen? If you weighed the animal's body and the load, the load is ten times more than his body. This is the punishment. And again, the man who is loading him now, he'll have to become an ass and take the load. This is called *karma-bandhana.*
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** He writes, "Many days... After working for more than one day at several universities, my presence became too obvious, and this becomes politically and legally dangerous, although in some little cities I became practically the talk of the town because people had not seen one with a dark body as mine, speaking only English and a little French." He's very dark. So as I... [break] He said that "Most important at this school was that after four days of trying to meet the Indologist, we were successful. I met the man and his assistant. They kept stressing that they were..." [break]
**Prabhupāda:** If required, you can show this line to Mr. Kapoor. In foreign countries they are no more interested in philosophical speculation. Actually they are not, neither in America nor India.
