**Prabhupāda:** ...girls? Jayānanda, how are you? So you are married now? Eh? So where is your marriage presentation?
**Prabhupāda:** When you are not yet married, you gave me five thousand dollars. Now you are married, you must give me now ten thousand. Double.
**Prabhupāda:** Oh, yes, you are Nara-nārāyaṇa's brother. [devotees enter and pay obeisances] Hare Kṛṣṇa. Come on. Nara-nārāyaṇa is very nice boy. Everything is all right? Where is your center? Come on.

**Prabhupāda:** So I am very glad that you are following the footprints of the Gosvāmīs, six Gosvāmīs. *Vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yugau śrī-jīva-gopālakau*. Rūpa Gosvāmī, Sanātana Gosvāmī, *vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yugau*, and two Raghunātha Gosvāmī—one Raghunātha dāsa Gosvāmī and one Raghunātha Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī. *Vande rūpa-sanātanau raghu-yugau*, four. *Śrī-jīva-gopālakau*: and Sri Jīva Gosvāmī and Gopāla Bhaṭṭa Gosvāmī. They were direct disciple of Lord Caitanya. There are thousands of disciples of Lord Caitanya, but they are prominent, who gave very prominent service to the Lord by executing the mission of Lord Caitanya.
By the order of Lord Caitanya they went to Vṛndāvana, and the present city of Vṛndāvana is the contribution of the Gosvāmīs. First of all Sanātana Gosvāmī went there, then Rūpa Gosvāmī. In this way the city was excavated. It was formerly, five hundred years ago, there was no trace where and how Kṛṣṇa *līlā* was performed in that tract of land. But when Caitanya Mahāprabhu went there, He first of all discovered Rādhā-kuṇḍa, the lake in which Śrīmatī Rādhārāṇī used to take bath and Kṛṣṇa used to come. There is Śyāma-kuṇḍa also. The Śyāma-kuṇḍa, Rādhā-kuṇḍa, two lakes are still existing. Hundreds..., thousands of people, devotees, go to see that lake every day.
So the six Gosvāmīs were..., some of them were very prominent government officers. Just like Rūpa Gosvāmī and Sanātana Gosvāmī: they were two important ministers in the then-Muhammadan government, Nawab Hussain Shah, his government. They resigned their ministerial post and joined Sri Caitanya Mahāprabhu for propagating His mission of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So *rūpa-sanātanau*, they are very responsible government officers.

**Prabhupāda:** [*prema-dhvani*] **Thank you very much. Devotees:** All glories to Śrī Guru and Gauranga. All glories to Śrīla Prabhupā**d**a. **[devotees offer obeisances] Prabhupāda:** Where is Pradyumna? *Om namo bhagavate...*
**Pradyumna:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya. Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya.*
**Pradyumna:** > papraccha cemam evārthaṁ > yan māṁ pṛcchatha sattamāḥ > kṛṣṇānubhāva-śravaṇe > śraddadhāno mahā-manāḥ

**Father Greene:** ...there is more to life than what we see and touch and hear, that there is a need for salvation, redemption, in one form or another. And that both these ideas, that we do not live on bread alone and that we need salvation, lead us to agree that there is something beyond this life which we can call at least in general, to use a technical word, the Transcendence. I think within this context we can talk and discuss and agree at least to some extent. I would now like to ask one of the Australian members of the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement to introduce their leader to us in a more personal manner.
**Umāpati:** We would like to introduce His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupāda, who is the founder of the Hare Kṛṣṇa movement and who has mercifully come and delivered us with the blazing torchlight of transcendental knowledge to deliver us from this disease of material existence. I think he is going to lecture from the *Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam.* Thank you very much. [applause]

**Reverend Powell:** Your people have a serenity that many Western people don't have. What..., what is the secret of serenity? And is it... I gather you reject many material demands, materialism as such.
**Prabhupāda:** *Yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā.* These are the proofs. *Yasyāsti bhaktir bhagavaty akiñcanā sarvair guṇais tatra samāsate surāḥ* [[sb/5/18/12|[SB. 5.18.12] ]].* If one becomes Kṛṣṇa conscious, then he becomes qualified with all godly attributes. That I have explained, that if you be in touch with God, then you become godly. That is the test. Simply by saying that "I am in commune with God," no. There is test. The test means if he is always in touch with God, he'll become, in his characteristics, godly. So they... One of the qualification is serenity. Is one of the qualifications. There are twenty-five qualifications of a devotee.
**Reverend Powell:** And you, obviously, would have ways, methods of becoming God conscious, Kṛṣṇa conscious. What...? Sort of a meditation? Chanting?

**Prabhupāda:** That is the most successful. Wherever book distribution is going on nicely, that is successful. Because people are in gross ignorance. They are taking this temporary life as everything. Very horrible condition. We are trying to explain what is the actual life.
**Satsvarūpa:** Here in Denver they have to compete with many bogus groups. This is the world headquarters of Guru Mahārāj-jī and many other... They like to come here, the mountains. So they're always making our propaganda against them.
**Prabhupāda:** So make propaganda against them vigorously. We have got sound footing. What these nonsense have? Tell them all nonsense, bogus. This rascal Guru Mahārāj-jī is God, and the other rascals are accepting him, God? This rascaldom is going on in such civilized city? He is God?

**Nitāi:** *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. *Oṁ namo bhagavate vāsudevāya*. [devotees repeat] Sixth Canto, First Chapter, verse number eight. [leads chanting of verse, etc.]

**Prabhupāda:** These Englishmen were very much eager to know the man who is working, whether he's family man, because a family man will never become irresponsible. And this is very, very much visible fact in India. A very poor man, if he's family man, he'll work. It is the family affection. And in economics we have read Marshall's economics. He gives, "The economic development takes place by family affection."
**Prabhupāda:** Hmm. Therefore in India the father-mother takes the responsibility of the son, to make him a family man. Then leave, marry.
**Prabhupāda:** Then he... Father-mother knows that he'll take care of his life automatically. And the boy and the girl are not allowed to mix with second girl, second boy. They are kept strictly. And when they're grown up, they're allowed to mix and the affection becomes firm. These are psychology. It is the psychology of woman that before puberty, if she has got a boy, she loves forever. She'll never be unchaste. So these marriage things are done very psychologically, scientifically, so that they may become happy, and then, in peaceful mind, combine together, good cooperation, they make progress, spiritual. This is the plan, *varṇāśrama-dharma.* Very scientific. And Kṛṣṇa says, "I am that." Whatever Kṛṣṇa shall give—perfect. Nobody cares. They are suffering.

**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** You learned everything by seeing. You said that you learned how to cook by watching your mother.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** You said that sometimes you would be walking in the footpath, and you would watch those men cook there.
**Prabhupāda:** Not cook. Somebody's doing some artistic work. I'll stand. I'll see how they are doing.

**[[spoken/770628r3.vrn|Conversations — June 28, 1977, Vṛndāvana]]**
**Prabhupāda:** ...divorce, child-killing or making the children hippies, that's all. Or find out some war to destroy them. When it is unmanageable, they declare war: "Engage these rascals." The politicians do that. When they cannot manage, they declare war, because they are not human beings; they are animals, Churchill and Hitler and this and that. "Start some war and finish this population." Or it may be nature's law. "When there is unnecessary population let there be war, famine, pestilence." That is one theory, Malthus' theory.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** That's what makes your books so unique: that others might have had some scholarly knowledge, but you have so much experience and realization packed into those books that it's so appealing, the scholars delight in reading the purports.
**Prabhupāda:** Scholars, they theorize. I say practical. Scholars want to say..., want to show how much their imaginative power is strong. That's all. And they all speak nonsense—Ramakrishna. And my point of view is how to give people practical hints so that they may be raised from this rotten condition.

**Prabhupāda:** They cannot explain what is that. But I have seen it. Where it has gone, nobody knows. Just see. Down, hundred miles, and up. You cannot see more than hundred... But it appears like the instruction.
**Tamāla Kṛṣṇa:** This is Jambūdvīpa, part of Jambūdvīpa. That is Ilāvṛta-varṣa in the square. We have... These mountains are each two thousand *yojanas* high.
**Bhakti-prema:** [indistinct] After Mandara Meru, Mandara, that Mandara Mountain... And here he began to meditate. He meditated for six thousand years on this Mandara Mountain here. Mother Pārvatī blessed him, and she [indistinct] Then next is [indistinct]. These two mountains are like [describes sketch of planetary system—indistinct] And here is the Milk planet.
