> Actually, Kṛṣṇa is everything, because whatever... This table is also Kṛṣṇa, because it is a manifestation of Kṛṣṇa's energy. *Bhūmir āpo 'nalo vāyuḥ khaṁ buddhir mano eva ca*. What is the ingredient of this table? Earth, water, air, fire. Kṛṣṇa says, "That is My manifestation of My energy." Just like if the sun-god says, "I am everything of this matter," it is a fact, because through the sunshine everything is coming out.
> But Kṛṣṇa says, "Although everything is resting in Me, still I am not there." *Mat-sthāni sarva-bhūtāni nāhaṁ teṣv avasthitaḥ*. The Māyāvādī philosopher says that "If Kṛṣṇa is here, then why shall I worship Kṛṣṇa in the temple?" That is his rascaldom. If Kṛṣṇa is everywhere, why He is not in the temple? But they will be minus, make minus this: "Kṛṣṇa is not in the temple. Kṛṣṇa is only somewhere else, that's all." That is the... Kṛṣṇa says that "I am in the temple, not anywhere else, although everything I am."

**[1971: Lecture](spoken/1971/710628le.sf)**
> Similarly, Kṛṣṇa says that "I am this and that.'' He says, *raso 'ham apsu kaunteya*. Those who are sober, those who want to understand Kṛṣṇa, they can understand Kṛṣṇa in every step of life. Just like *raso 'ham apsu kaunteya*, "I am the taste of the water.'' Water you have to drink. Just like I drank just a minute before and quenched my thirst. But that quenching active principle is Kṛṣṇa. So we can realize Kṛṣṇa every time we'll drink water. This is Kṛṣṇa consciousness. *Śās...*, *prabhāsmi śaśi sūryayoḥ*. Kṛṣṇa is the sunshine, Kṛṣṇa is the moonshine. Kṛṣṇa is the fragrance of the flower. As soon as you take a flower and smell it, the fragrance is Kṛṣṇa.
> So this is *ācāryopāsanā*, by reading their books, *nana-śāstra-vicaraṇaika-nipunau sad-dharma-samsthapakau*. Why studying so many books? For the sake of establishing real religious life, *sad-dharma*. There are two kinds of *dharmas*, religious, religions: *pravṛtti-mārga*, *nivṛtti-mārga*. *Pravṛtti-mārga* means materialism, and *nivṛtti-mārga* means spiritualism. *Pravṛtti* means because we had intention to enjoy this material world, therefore we have been given this material body by the energy of Kṛṣṇa, *prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni*, by the..., for associating with this material world.

**[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.4.3–4 & Initiations](spoken/1972/720628sb.la)**
> "This perfectional stage is attained by a *jñānī* after many, many births. The *jñānīs*, or the empiric philosophers endeavoring for liberation, are thousands of times better than the fruitive workers, and out of hundreds of thousands of such *jñānīs* one is liberated factually. And out of hundreds of thousands of such liberated persons, even one person is rarely found who can firmly fix his mind unto the lotus feet of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, as it is declared by the Lord Himself in the *Bhagavad-gītā*.
> "Most people are attracted by such activities. Even in the activities of their modern godless civilization, people are more concerned with economic development and sense gratification, without any religious sentiments. As a great emperor of the world, Mahārāja Parīkṣit had to observe such regulations of the Vedic *karma*-*kāṇḍīya* section, but by the slight association with Śukadeva Gosvāmī he could perfectly understand that Lord Kṛṣṇa, the Absolute Personality of Godhead* [Vāsudeva], for whom he had a natural love since his birth, is everything, and thus he fixed his mind firmly upon Him, renouncing all modes of Vedic *karma-kāṇḍīya* activities.

**[1974: Lecture at St. Pascal's Franciscan Seminary](spoken/1974/740628le.mel)**
> Just like mother loves child. It is not like the maidservant who is paid. Mother loves spontaneously child, as duty. He [she] loves to serve the child. Similarly, when our love of God will be spontaneous, without any motive, and without being impeded... Love of God cannot be checked by any material condition. It is not that because a man is poor, therefore he cannot love God. No. If a man is very rich, therefore he cannot love. No. *Ahaituky apratihatā.* Whatever you may be, you can learn how to love God without any impediment. And if we come to that stage of life—here it is said, *yayātmā suprasīdati—*then you will be fully satisfied and pleased. If you are engaged in the service of the Lord without any motive and without being impeded, spontaneously loving, then you will feel complete satisfaction. *Svāmin kṛtārtho 'smi varaṁ na yāce*.
> So people should try to attain that perfect transcendental position so that he is fully satisfied, no more want. So that is called *bhakti-yoga,* and we are teaching and propagating this *bhakti-yoga.* People are disturbed in so many ways in this Age of Kali. To give them real satisfaction of life is to awaken them to the platform of God consciousness. So the simple method is chanting the holy name of God. We are chanting Hare Kṛṣṇa. Hare Kṛṣṇa means addressing the energy of God, Harā. God is with His energy. Just like fire is with its energy, heat and light, similarly, God has got energies, many energies. The principal energies are the spiritual energy and the material energy. So we are under the material energy at the present moment. So we have to transfer ourself to the spiritual energy, because we are spirit soul. Just like you take the fish on the land. Because land is not the place for the fish, however you try to make him comfortable, he will never be comfortable. You throw him in the water—he is comfortable. Similarly, we are spirit. We are now encaged within this material body. *Dehino 'smin yathā dehe kaumāraṁ yauvanaṁ jarā*.

**[1974: Room Conversation with Reverend Gordon Powell, Head of Scots' Church](spoken/1974/740628r1.mel)**
> "In spite of His creating the four divisions of human society, Lord Kṛṣṇa does not belong to any of these divisions, because He is not one of the conditioned souls, a section of whom form human society. Human society is similar to any other animal society, but to elevate men from the animal status, the above-mentioned divisions are created by the Lord for the systematic development of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. The tendency of a particular man toward work is determined by the modes of material nature which he has acquired. Such symptoms of life, according to different modes of material nature, are described in the Eighteenth Chapter of this book. A person in Kṛṣṇa consciousness, however, is above even the *brāhmaṇas,* because a *brāhmaṇa* by quality is supposed to know about Brahman, the Supreme Absolute Truth. Most of them approach the impersonal Brahman manifestation of Lord Kṛṣṇa, but only a man who transcends the limited knowledge of a *brāhmaṇa* and reaches the knowledge of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, becomes a person in Kṛṣṇa consciousness—or, in other words, a *Vaiṣṇava. *
> "Kṛṣṇa consciousness includes knowledge of all different plenary expansions of Kṛṣṇa, namely Rāma, Nṛsiṁha, Varāha, etc. However, as Kṛṣṇa is transcendental to this system of the four divisions of human society, a person in Kṛṣṇa consciousness is also transcendental to all divisions of human society, whether we consider the divisions of community, nation or species."

**[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750628mw.den)**
>formerly at least one expected love from mother. That is also being finished. This is the advancement of civilization. Even mother is also not reliable, what to speak of others. A small child sleeps very sound on the lap of the mother because it thinks, "Now I am safe." And the mother is killing child. This is the advancement of... [break]...has been many cases, a polluted woman has killed his child on account of paramour. In India there have been many cases, killed a grown-up child. In recently one of our Godbrothers' wife. You know that?
> This is the position. The example is so nice and so simple, and they cannot understand. What is their brain? Animal brain. Dog race, horse race—they want this, rat race. That's all. Their civilization is race, dog race, horse race, rat race. That's all. They do not know anything. I am talking this simple thing because you are in confidence. Otherwise I would not have sa... Only rascals, animals, the Western people. So now it is motor race—from dog race to motor race. And does it mean if the dog is running on, race, on a car, does it mean he is not a dog? The same race, either by jumping on the land or in the motorcar. The race is the same, the dog is the same. [to devotee] So when you have come, just now?

**[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.15](spoken/1975/750628sb.den)**
> So there are many *yoga-siddhis.* People become very much puzzled by seeing these *yoga-siddhi.* But Kṛṣṇa says, *yatatām api siddhānām:* "Amongst many such *siddhas* who have got *yoga-siddhi,*" *yatatām api siddhānām kaścid vetti māṁ tattvataḥ ,* "somebody may understand Me." So one may achieve some *yoga-siddhis;* still, it is not possible to understand Kṛṣṇa. That is not possible. Kṛṣṇa can be understood only such persons who has dedicated everything to Kṛṣṇa. Therefore Kṛṣṇa wants that, demands, *sarva-dharmān parityajya mām ekam śaraṇaṁ*. Kṛṣṇa is only understandable by His pure devotee, not anyone else.
> Kṛṣṇa says, "I shall give you release from all sinful reaction which you have committed for many, many births." Kṛṣṇa says. *Ahaṁ tvāṁ sarva-pāpebhyo mokṣayiṣyāmi mā śucaḥ.* There is no question of worrying about it, that "Oh, I have committed." But the thing is that after surrendering to Kṛṣṇa, don't commit any more sinful life. Then you are perfect. Whatever you have done is done. It doesn't matter. But after surrendering, if you think, "It is a good business. I have surrendered," no, that is not surrender. Surrender is that *sarva-dharmān parityajya.* He has no other business. That is surrender. You cannot become a devotee of Kṛṣṇa and engage in sinful activities. Then it is not surrender. You want to do your business on the strength of Kṛṣṇa's blessing—no. That is not allowed. Therefore Kṛṣṇa says, *sarva-dharmān parityajya.* All kinds of activities, occupational duty, you should give up. Simply be engaged in Kṛṣṇa's service.

> *Dhana* means money. So if you have got money, then everyone will respect you. Personally you may be less than a dog, but because you have got money, people will respect you.

**[1976: Room Conversation](spoken/1976/760628r2.nv)**
> About the foretelling of *Bhāgavatam.* The other day I recited so many verses. One of them, long hairs. Now see how practical.

**[1977: Talk About Varṇāśrama, S.B. 2.1.1–5](spoken/1977/770628r1.vrn)**
> "The whole materialistic advancement of human society is like the decoration of a dead body. Everyone is a dead body flapping only for a few days, and yet all the energy of human life is being wasted in the decoration of this dead body. Śukadeva Gosvāmī is pointing out the duty of the human being after showing the actual position of bewildered human activities. Persons who are devoid of the knowledge of *ātma-tattva* are misguided, but those who are devotees of the Lord and have perfect realization of transcendental knowledge are not bewildered."
> Na indriya-prītiḥ.* We require sense gratification—we have got senses—but not for the matter of sense. Just to live. Just like sleeping—we require bedding. And why shall I be dissatisfied if there is no good bedstead and no silk, silver and, or, and this, that, so...? Within my means, whatever comforts are available, I make satisfaction. Why shall I make competition?

> The same shape, [indistinct] they are improving to make straighter, short, topless, bottomless, in this way and that way, miniskirt. They are arranging. The thing is the same, but they want to change the taste in different way. No knowledge. They have no knowledge. Sex, you require under... You'll get it between husband and wife. There is no difficulty. What is the use of that? Daily pregnancy, daily... Three days divorce. Actually I saw in Chicago, within three weeks, three divorce.
