# June 27 ## Spoken on June 27 *Lectures from this day: 15 recordings* --- **[1971: Ratha-yātrā Address](spoken/1971/710627r2.sf)** > Therefore it is natural to conclude that after leaving this body I shall have another body. That's a fact. That is Vedic truth. *Vāsāṁsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāya*. The example is given that as we change our dresses, similarly, we are changing our dresses from one body to another. We have changed dresses as aquatic animals, as many fishes and aquatic animals as there are in the sea; then we are change bodies as creepers, plants and trees for many, many years. Then we change our bodies in the insect life, reptiles' life, then we are change our bodies in three..., thirty hundreds thousands of beasts, then we have got this human form of life. That is also in evolution through many uncivilized form of human life. > So if we want to have eternal life, full of knowledge and blissfulness, then we must take to Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Our this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is the greatest welfare activities in the human society. We are giving information to every man, without any discrimination of cast, creed and color, that every human being especially... Not only human being; all living entities, including the animals, beasts, birds, trees, aquatics—everyone—they can achieve to the highest perfection of life by this Kṛṣṇa consciousness. But especially the extra intelligence of the human being can be utilized to realize Kṛṣṇa. If we don't do that, we are missing a great opportunity. --- **[1971: Ratha-yātrā Address](spoken/1971/710627ry.sf)** > So this Kṛṣṇa consciousness movement is an attempt to teach people how to see God, how to see Kṛṣṇa. Kṛṣṇa can be seen if we practice. Just like Kṛṣṇa says, *raso 'ham apsu kaunteya*. Kṛṣṇa says, "I am the taste of the water.'' Every one of us, we drink water every day, not only one, twice—thrice or more than that. So as soon as we drink water, if we think that the taste of the water is Kṛṣṇa, immediately we become Kṛṣṇa conscious. > Kṛṣṇa says those who are constantly, twenty-four hours engaged in Kṛṣṇa's service... Just like these students, the member of Kṛṣṇa consciousness Society, you'll find them twenty-four hours engaged in Kṛṣṇa's service. That is the, I mean to say, significance of Kṛṣṇa consciousness. They are always engaged. This Ratha-yātrā ceremony is one of the item, so that at least, one day, all of you will be able to be engaged in Kṛṣṇa consciousness. So this is only practice, and if you practice throughout your whole life, then at the time of death, if you can fortunately remember Kṛṣṇa, your life is successful. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.4.3–4](spoken/1972/720627sb.la)** > Real purpose is *vāsudeve bhagavati ātma-bhāvaṁ dṛḍhaṁ gataḥ,* to increase our affection, or love, for Kṛṣṇa. *Vāsudeve bhagavati. Vāsudeve bhagavati bhakti-yogaḥ prayojitaḥ, janayaty āśu vairāgyam*. Purpose, *sannyasya,* renounced... People cannot renounce. They are very much attached to this material body and anything in relationship with this body. But the real purpose of human life is to become renounced—no more material body. That is required. *Vairāgyam.* This is called *vairāgyam,* or renounced. > So these are different. Just like in Greenland, it is filled up with ice. They cannot get any nice food. Still they live there. This is *māyā.* They will not think, "Oh, here the life is very difficult. Let me go away from here. Let me go to some other, better place." No. He'll not go.... is *māyā.* Just like hog. Hog is living most abominable condition of life, with stools and filthy water, but still, he is thinking he's living in heaven. You see? *Jananī janma-bhūmiś ca svargād api garīyasī.* So therefore, the conclusion is that so far material comforts are concerned, you cannot get more. Or less. You will get. It is already fixed up. *Deha-yogena dehinām. Sukham aindriyakaṁ daityā deha-yogena dehinām sarvatra labhyate*...*, eh? *Yathā duḥkham ayatnataḥ.* --- **[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.10.14](spoken/1973/730627sb.may)** > So Śukadeva Gosvāmī said that "Here, the Kṛṣṇa, here is playing with the cowherds boys. Who is He?" *Itthaṁ satāṁ brahma-sukhānubhūtyā:* "The great sages, saintly person, who are trying to taste the spiritual realization, that is here. He is playing as cowherd boy." *Dāsyaṁ gatānāṁ para-daivatena:* "And those who are devotees, for them He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead." *Māyāśritānāṁ nara-dārakeṇa:* "And those who are *māyāśrita,* they are thinking, 'This Kṛṣṇa is ordinary human child.' "*Sārdhaṁ vijahruḥ kṛta-puṇya-puñjāḥ* : "So with this boy, transcendental Kṛṣṇa, cowherd boy, the other boys who are playing, they are not ordinary men." *Kṛta-puṇya-puñjāḥ.* "They accumulated pious activities life after life for many, many thousands and millions of lives. Now they have got the opportunity to play with Kṛṣṇa." > So this is the process of Caitanya Mahāprabhu's worship. Caitanya Mahāprabhu was falling down on the water, "Oh, I could not see Kṛṣṇa." When He was *gṛhastha,* He was simply consulting with mother, "Mother, I could not realize Kṛṣṇa. What shall I do? Where shall I go?" Mother said, "My dear son, why You are impatient? Everything will be all right in due course." Caitanya Mahāprabhu was giving indication that "I must leave home." Mother was also understanding that "This boy wants to leave us." That was another perplexed position. --- **[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 3.27 at Town Hall](spoken/1974/740627bg.mel)** > Kṛṣṇa says that all these living entities... We are all living entities. Actually, every one of us is spirit soul, living entities. It does not matter whether I am a human being or other than human being—lower animal, birds, beasts, trees or higher celestial beings. There are many varieties of life, 8,400,000. Nine... *Jalajā nava-lakṣāṇi* [*Padma Purāṇa*]. > Kṛṣṇa is explaining to Arjuna. You will find these statement in the Fourth Chapter of *Bhagavad-gītā.* Kṛṣṇa said that "This perfect knowledge of *yoga* system as I am explaining in this..." Now it is known, *Bhagavad-gītā. Bhagavad-gītā* means the..., generally in this Western world they say, "Song of God." So *Bhagavad-gītā* is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So He said that "This is not a new literature. Millions of years ago I spoke about this *yoga* system, *imaṁ vivasvate yogaṁ proktavān...*. *Proktavān* means, "I said." Whom? Vivasvān. Vivasvān is the name of the sun-god, or the president of the sun planet. Just like here in this planet we have got presidents in each country. So now there are so many presidents. Formerly, even on this planet there was one president. They are trying to be united. The United Nation Organization, they want to unite. For the last twenty years the United Nations are trying to unite, but the result is we are disunited. Instead of making one flag, the flags are increasing every year: "This is Pakistan, this is Hindustan, this is this, this is that, this is..." They are not united. How they can be united? They cannot be united, because *prakṛteḥ kriyamāṇāni guṇaiḥ karmāṇi sarvaśaḥ*, everyone is under the control of the material nature, full control. --- **[1974: Morning Walk [Partially Recorded](spoken/1974/740627mw.mel)** > Infection. If we infect some choleric diarrhea, we'll suffer. Nature's law is. Therefore human being should be cautious not to infect. Just like educated man or civilized man, he is cautious not to infect some kind of contaminated disease. Similarly, human form of body with higher consciousness is there just to remain always cautious not to infect material, I mean, modes of nature. And that is devotional service. --- **[1975: Arrival Address](spoken/1975/750627ar.den)** > So I am very glad to see this temple. You have purchased it? No. That's nice, very good space. And devotees are very nice. So our process is very simple, that we dedicate our life to the service of Vaiṣṇava and, according to his direction, *śravaṇaṁ kīrtanam*, hearing and chanting of Viṣṇu, Kṛṣṇa, and refrain from the sinful activities. Then life is successful. It is not very difficult. We do not require to be very learned scholar or very rich men or to take birth in a very high family. We do not require all these things. If we are endowed with all these blessings, *janma aiśvarya śruta śrī*— means birth in high family or great nation, to be very opulent, rich, and very highly educated or very beautiful—these things are very good material possessions. But if we have got them, it is all right. > Even if we have not got, there is no impediment. *Kṛṣṇa-bhakti* is without any check by any material condition. Anyone can execute this devotional service, provided he wants to do it. And especially when one is endowed with other blessings, it is just like good scent in gold. Gold is appreciated by everyone. It is valuable, but there is no good flavor. Similarly, *janma aiśvarya,* to... You American boys and girls, you are born of a very big nation. That is very good. You are all educated, you are beautiful, and *janma aiś..., śruta śrī,* four things. These things are just like gold. But if you add Kṛṣṇa consciousness along with these qualification, then gold with flavor. Gold is valuable, and if there is flavor, it is more valuable. Of course, in the material world there is no gold which has got good scent. But in the spiritual world that is possible. So with your intelligence, with your opulence, add Kṛṣṇa consciousness. Then nationally, individually, collectively you will be glorified. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750627mw.la)** > Therefore we require vigorous propaganda to make these fools to understand what is the real aim of life. That should be our propaganda. *Idam adya mayā labdham imaṁ prāpsye punar dhanam*. They have simply calculated, "Now today the bank balance is now three millions dollars, and tomorrow it will be four million." Simply they say. *Idaṁ prāpsye punar dhanam.* And everyone is proud: "Who is greater than me? Who can understand more than me? I am very great man." *Āḍhyo mām abhi...* What is that? *Āḍhyo mām,* hmm? "I am the richest man. I am the most aristocratic. I have killed so many enemies. Now I shall kill that enemy." > That they are not... A temporary life for fifty years or sixty years, they are busy, making very, very gorgeous arrangement. This is *asuric* civilization. He does not take it very seriously that "I am encaged in this material body. My first business is how to get out of it and remain in my spiritual body." They get one type of body and, like cats and dogs, engage how to keep that body in sense gratification. That's all. [break]...spiritual education, that "I am spiritual, spirit soul. I am encaged in this body. I want freedom. That is my first business, how to become liberated." No, that question set aside. Now, for the time being, we are walking here, and if there is some misunderstanding, we fight, forgetting that we have come here for walking, say, for half an hour. And why we shall forget our real business? That intelligence is not there. [break]...India, the Indira Gandhi was made as all in all. Now there is a catastrophe. We do not know what is going to happen. --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.15](spoken/1975/750627sb.la)** > So we have been discussing for the last few days how to become free from the reaction of our sinful life. That is real problem. But people, they have no knowledge what is life, what is sinful life, what is pious life, why we are put into this condition that "We have to do this; we haven't got to do that." This is real philosophy of life. The *asuras,* as we were discussing in this morning walk, they do not know it. *Āsurās... Pravṛttiṁ ca nivṛttiṁ ca na vidur āsurāḥ janāḥ*. We are living... In the ordinary life also, we live a little carefully so that we may not fall sick. For that purpose there is very vigilance in the immigration department, that in Australia we had some nice mangoes brought from Bombay, and they did not allow to take it. They thought this mango is more dangerous than the dry meat. > Then it was suggested that people, because they are in darkness, *asuras,* they do not know how to become immune from all diseases, therefore *prāyaścittaṁ vimarśanam*, he suggested, Śukadeva. he must be sober, that "I am suffering from some disease, and I am heavily paying the penalty to the doctor, and still I am doing the same thing?" So therefore Śukadeva Gosvāmī suggested, *prāyaścittaṁ vimarśanam. Vimarśanam* means to become sober and think that "Why I cannot check my desire to do sinful activities?" Then he suggested to come to that understanding he requires good brain. Ordinary brain, they cannot understand that "Why I am forced to act sinfully, although after doing that I suffer? I have committed theft. I am suffer..., I go to jail. Again I come out." So therefore it is called *vimarśanam.* So for *vimarśanam*—means to become sober—you require practicing the *tapasyā.* That is also, we have discussed. --- **[1976: Morning Walk](spoken/1976/760627mw.nv)** > Soul or not soul, when the body is dead, is there any difference of value? --- **[1977: Morning Talk](spoken/1977/770627r1.vrn)** > And Kṛṣṇa is giving everyone facility: "All right, enjoy." *Bhrāmayan sarva-bhūtāni yantrārūḍhāni māyayā*. Sarva-bhūtāni.* Everyone is getting opportunity. According to his *karma,* he's getting a suitable body. You want to become Brahmā? All right. And you become..., want to become a hog? All right. If you want to become worm in the stool, all right. This is going on. > And devotion begins when one does not want to become anything. *Anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyam* [Bhakti-rasāmṛta-sindhu*1.1.11]. Then he likes. So when you desire, either you desire like a Brahmā or the worm in the stool, that is material. And when you give up this desire, then spiritual life begins. *Anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyam*. Sarvopādhi-vinirmuktam. So to become *anyābhilāṣitā-śūnyam,* that is required. Who will understand this philosophy? --- ## Letters on June 27 *Letters from this day: 14* --- **[1967: Letter to Sri Krishan Pandit](letters/1967/670627_sri_krishan_pandit)** > I am very much thankful to you for your letter dated June 15, 1967.
