# June 25 ## Spoken on June 25 *Lectures from this day: 9 recordings* --- **[1972: Garden Conversation](spoken/1972/720625gc.la)** > Devotee (1): We have to actually understand that they are not actually Christians. If we think that they are Christians, see, then we're falling into their illusion. They're thinking that they are Christians, but actually... The real meaning of Christian means one who is serving God. He's christened; he's a medium. > Dvau bhūta-sargau loke daiva āsura*. There are two kinds of men: *daiva*, *asura;* demon and demigod. *Viṣṇu-bhakto bhaved daiva asuras tad-viparyayaḥ*. Those who are devotees of the Lord, they are called demigods, and those who are opposite number, they are called demons. The whole world is full of demons; still there are little percent of them are devotees. Otherwise the material world is full of demons. --- **[1972: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 2.4.2](spoken/1972/720625sb.la)** > So anything you associate, you get affection. That's a fact. Therefore here it is stated, *rājye cāvikale nityaṁ virūḍhāṁ mamatāṁ jahau*. And his kingdom was very safe kingdom. It was not that there was disturbance in his kingdom, somebody has attacked, so he was bereft... No. > So when he actually saw Kṛṣṇa, Viṣṇu, he was offered, "Now you take benediction as you desire." He was very sorry. He said, "My Lord, I have no other desire now. I have finished all my desire." *Anyābhi... Svāmin kṛtārtho 'smi varaṁ na yāce :* "I don't want any this, any kind of benediction. I have got You. I have no more necessity of any benediction." --- **[1973: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.10.11–12](spoken/1973/730625sb.may)** > So *bhava-sāgarasya.* The whole universe is *bhava-sāgara. Sāgara* means ocean, or sea. And *bhava* means repetition of birth and death. *Bhava. Bhūtvā bhūtvā pralīyate , in the *Bhagavad-gītā.* Once we take birth, we remain here for some time, then we give up this body; we accept another body. *Tathā dehāntara-prāptir dhīras tatra na muhyati*. We have to... So long we are in this material ocean, we have to accept these laws of nature, repetition of birth and death. This is called *bhava-sāgara.* So we are eternal, *nityaḥ śāśvato 'yaṁ na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. It requires little intelligence, that "I am eternal. Why I am in this business, accepting one body and again giving up, giving it up? And there is no guarantee what kind of body I'm going to accept next." There is no guarantee. It will be according to your work. We can become an insect, or we can become the demigod. We can become tree; we can become animal—anything, according to our *karma. Karmaṇā daiva-netreṇa*. > So when one comes out of this gross ignorance, how to get out of this *bhava-sāgara...* Just like if you are thrown into the water of sea, you may be very expert swimmer, but you don't like to remain there. You want to come out. Similarly, although we may be very expert in changing our body, but still, at the time of death, we don't like it. Nobody likes to die. But he... Nobody thinks how to stop this death. In the *Bhagavad-gītā* it is said, *na hanyate hanyamāne śarīre*. By the destruction of this body, the soul is not dead. It is living. So this is called self-realization. One must be sober to think over that "If I am eternal, if I do not die after the destruction of this body, and I do not like to die, how to stop it?" This is intelligence: how to stop the repetition of birth and death. --- **[1974: Bhagavad-gītā 13.22–24](spoken/1974/740625bg.mel)** > So why there are different types of bodies? Because you wanted a particular type of enjoyment under the influence of material nature. As already explained, there are three material nature quality—*sattva-guṇa, rajo-guṇa, tamo-guṇa.* Now, we mix them. Three into three, it becomes nine. And nine multiplied by nine, it becomes eighty-one. Therefore there are 8,400,000 species of life, according to the material quality. That is explained here. *Puruṣaḥ prakṛti-stho hi bhuṅkte prakṛti-jān guṇān*. Prakṛti-jān guṇān.* To possess different types of body means to satisfy different types of desires, under the influence of the modes of material nature. Full freedom. Therefore when one is advanced in consciousness, he doesn't want to enjoy anything of this material world, any way. He doesn't desire either to become the king or Lord Brahmā or the stool, or, I mean to say, the worms of the stool. > So we have got three different status of reading capacity. We have got already twenty books. So don't waste your time. Try to understand what is Kṛṣṇa and what is spiritual life by reading these books. Everything is explained there. Don't associate with this material nature. If you associate with this material nature, then what will be the result? Now, *kāraṇaṁ guṇa-saṅgo 'sya sad-asad-yoni-janmasu*. Yoni* means the source of birth. Just like we take our birth, the source is the mother. From the mother's womb we come out. That is called *yoni,* the source. The source is the mother. From the mother's womb we come out. That is called *yoni,* the source. So there are mothers—human being mother, cat mother, dog mother, this mother, so many mothers. Without mother there is no birth. And without father also, there is no birth. Therefore it is said that *janame janame saba pitā mātā pāya.* In every birth you will get a father and mother, because without father and mother there is no question of birth. --- **[1975: Morning Walk](spoken/1975/750625mw.la)** > Kṛṣṇa also confirms. That verse, which we were reading last evening... Kṛṣṇa says, *mayā tatam idaṁ sarvaṁ jagad avyakta-mūrtinā* : "This *jagat,* this material world, is impersonal. And that is My energy. Therefore the whole world is resting upon Me, but I am not there. As person, I am not there." This is the statement of *Bhagavad-gītā.* Just like the sunshine is spreading all over the universe, but the sun is aloof. Take this example. Not that because the sunshine is here, we are now getting, the sun has come here. The sun is shining from the distant place. He is aloof. Similarly, God is person, and His shining is all this creation. That is impersonal. > So Cāṇakya Paṇḍita advises that "If there is education, actual education, even he is a lower-class man, *śūdra* or *caṇḍāla,* take it. Accept him as master." And *nīcād apy uttamā vidyā. Nīcād apy uttamā vidyā strī-ratnaṁ duṣkulād api.* And in India, according to Vedic civilization, the marriage is done after seeing the family tradition very scrutinizingly. So here it is advised that *duṣkulād api:* "In a abominable family, if there is nice girl, educated, beautiful, accept her. Accept her." *Nīcād apy uttamā vidyā strī-ratnam. Ratnam* means jewel. "Wife, she is like jewel although born of a low family, accept." So anything very good, even it is available from a place which is not desirable, one should accept it. So if you are actually seeking after God, so here is God available from Vedic literature. Why don't you take it? Why you should refuse it? That is not very good sign. --- **[1975: Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 6.1.12](spoken/1975/750625sb.la)** > Kṛṣṇa says, "I have made this *varṇāśrama* for the benefit of the whole human society, although I don't belong to any *varṇa, āśrama*." Kṛṣṇa has nothing to do, but to maintain the human society very peaceful, advancing in spiritual knowledge, this *varṇāśrama* is required. Therefore sometimes I become very eager to start a *varṇāśrama* college. We have nothing to do with *varṇāśrama,* we Kṛṣṇa..., but we want to see that the whole human society is peaceful. That is our mission. *Sarve sukhino bhavantu.* This is the desire of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and those who are servants of the Supreme Personality of Godhead, they should also desire how to do good to the whole human society. > So one demon was very much disturbing the *ṛṣis* in the jungle. So they came to Daśaratha Mahārāja to get some relief. *Kṣatraṁ dvijatvaṁ ca parasparārtham.* He said, "My dear King Daśaratha, I have come to you for some help. The disturbance is going on." Just like we go to the government for police help if there is some disturbance; this is the duty of the government, *kṣatriya.* So "We are having sacrifices, penances for the whole humanity. Now we are disturbed. You save us." *Kṣatraṁ dvijatvaṁ ca parasparārtham.* This is required. *Parasparārtham* means mutual help. The *brāhmaṇas* should give advice to the *kṣatriyas,* to the government, and the government, according to the nice, good advice, should maintain the state. In this way there will be peaceful condition of the society. Therefore there is the institution of *varṇāśrama. Cātur-varṇyaṁ māyā...*. --- **[1976: Morning Talk in Car [Partially Recorded](spoken/1976/760625mw.nv)** > ...they say about the Westerners, you do not know? Don't be sorry. He said *paścimera loka saba mūḍha anācāra.* [*Śrī Caitanya-caritāmṛta, Ādi* 10.89] The Western people, they are rascals and misbehaved. --- **[1976: Room Conversation and Reading from Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam 1.5.1–16 and 12th Canto](spoken/1976/760625r1.nv)** --- ## Letters on June 25 *Letters from this day: 12* --- **[1967: Letter to Hayagriva](letters/1967/670625_hayagriva)** > I thank you very much for your new record which you have sent, and I have enjoyed it like anything, especially your speech on the essay of "Krishna the Chariot Driver. --- **[1970: Letter to Brahmananda](letters/1970/700625_brahmananda)** > Regarding the printing of Srimad-Bhagavatam, I have already advised you in my last letter dated 19th June, 1970, not to make contract. So we want accommodations for at least forty men and women which will constitute the Sankirtana Party. So we want a nice place for their stay in Vrndavana for some time. --- **[1970: Letter to Satsvarupa](letters/1970/700625_satsvarupa)** > Regarding the picture of King Paundraka, Yes, he may be colored blue. Because he was imitating Vasudeva, he had two artificial extra hands attached also. Anyway, there is a suggestion by Syamasundara that I may go to London for meeting very important men there in the new house given us by George. --- **[1974: Letter to Jagadisa](letters/1974/740625_jagadisa)** > As of your writing, Govardhana Prabhu, the Detroit president had left his post and was living in the Chicago temple, because he was not chanting his sixteen rounds. I hope by now he has taken your advice and has returned to his post and is following the chanting with full knowledge. --- **[1974: Letter to Yadunandana](letters/1974/740625_yadunandana)** > Yes there are example of Krsna Conscious persons whose worship was solitary life, and the greatest example is Haridasa Thakura. Haridasa Thakura used to live only in a cave sometimes and would spend his whole time chanting the Hare Krishna Mantra. Similarly Gaura Keshore das Babaji the spiritual master of my guru maharaj would chant alone in a solitary place so as not to be bothered by anyone in his meditation on Krsna. --- **[1976: Letter to Ramesvara](letters/1976/760625_ramesvara)** > Please do the needful and send me the receipt to the New York address. this check is to be immediately deposited in the ISKCON MAYAPUR VRINDABAN a/c # 4-07143, at the Bank of America in Los Angeles (office no. ---
